DNA watermarking have been interested for both the security of private genetic information or huge DNA storage information and the copyright protection of GMO. Multimedia watermarking has been mainly designed on the basis of frequency domain, such as DCT, DWT, FMT, and so on, for the robustness and invisibility. But a frequency domain watermarking for coding DNA sequence has a considerable constraint for embedding the watermark because transform and inverse transform must be performed without completely changing the amino acid sequence. This paper presents a coding sequence watermarking on lifting based DWT domain and brings up the availability of frequency domain watermarking for DNA sequence. From experimental results, we verified that the proposed scheme has the robustness to until a combination of 10% point mutations, 5% insertion and deletion mutations and also the amino preservation and the security.

Ultraviolet B (UVB) damages DNA residues in skin keratinocytes. In particular, the formation of cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPD), a pyrimidine residue damage in DNA, is considered a representative indicator of skin photoaging. In this study, we confirmed defensive effect of Glycyrrhiza glabra (G. glabra) extract against UVB induced DNA damage. First of all, we confirmed UVB dependent amount of CPD formation in human keratinocyte cell line. UVB induced CPD was decreased by G. glabra extract by dose dependent manner. In addition, it was confirmed that the expression of mRNA of DNA damage recovery factors was increased by G. glabra extract. Consequently, through this study, it was possible to confirm the DNA protection effect of G. glabra extract in skin keratinocytes.
Nowadays, interests of ultraviolet(UV) protection increased, since the UV dosage on the earth surface has increased over years. Overdose of UV can cause various skin, eye, and even DNA damages. Therefore, it is need to develop a proper mean to protect human skin and eye from UV radiation. In this study, the UV protective effect of green tea extract dyed fabrics with various fiber types were examined. Green tea has an active moiety called 'catechin' having benzene rings in its structure, which would exert a proper UV protective property. Green tea dyed fabrics showed the increase in UV protection, and silk showed the highest increase in UV protection (from 52.2% to 84.5% in UV-A, from 66.1% to 90% in UV-B). The order of UV-A protection increase is silk, wool, nylon and acrylic, PET, and cotton. The order of UV-B protection increase is silk nylon, wool, acrylic, cotton, and PET. In case of silk and nylon, the UV protection property gradually increased as the concentration of green tea extract increased. As a result, it was proven that green tea extract dyeing can improve UV protection property of dyed fabrics in environment-friendly and biocompatible manners.
The telomeric end structures of the DNA are known to contain tandem repeats of TTAGGG sequence bound with specialised protein complex called the "shelterin complex". It comprises six proteins, namely TRF1, TRF2, TIN2, POT1, TPP1 and RAP1. All of these assemble together to form a complex with double strand and single strand DNA repeats at the telomere. Such an association contributes to telomere stability and its protection from undesirable DNA damage control-specific responses. However, any alteration in the structure and function of any of these proteins may lead to undesirable DNA damage responses and thus cellular senescence and death. In our review, we throw light on how mutations in the proteins belonging to the shelterin complex may lead to various malfunctions and ultimately have a role in tumorigenesis and cancer progression.
The purpose of this study was to provide a detailed explanation of the mechanism of bisanthracycline, WP 631 in comparison to doxorubicin (DOX), a first generation anthracycline, currently the most widely used pharmaceutical in clinical oncology. Experiments were performed in SKOV-3 ovarian cancer cells which are otherwise resistant to standard drugs such as cis-platinum and adriamycin. As attention was focused on the ability of WP 631 to induce apoptosis, this was examined using a double staining method with Annexin V and propidium iodide probes, with measurement of the level of intracellular calcium ions and cytosolic cytochrome c. The western blotting technique was performed to confirm PARP cleavage. We also investigated the involvement of caspase activation and DNA degradation (comet assay and immunocytochemical detection of phosphorylated H2AX histones) in the development of apoptotic events. WP 631 demonstrated significantly higher effectiveness as a pro-apoptotic drug than DOX. This was evident in the higher levels of markers of apoptosis, such as the externalization of phosphatidylserine and the elevated level of cytochrome c. An extension of incubation time led to an increase in intracellular calcium levels after treatment with DOX. Lower changes in the calcium content were associated with the influence of WP 631. DOX led to the activation of all tested caspases, 8, 9 and 3, whereas WP 631 only induced an increase in caspase 8 activity after 24h of treatment and consequently led to the cleavage of PARP. The lack of active caspase 3 had no outcome on the single and double-stranded DNA breaks. The obtained results show that WP 631 was considerably more genotoxic towards the investigated cell line than DOX. This effect was especially visible after longer times of incubation. The above detailed studies indicate that WP 631 generates early apoptosis and cell death independent of caspase-3, detected at relatively late time points. The observed differences in the mechanisms of the action of WP631 and DOX suggest that this bisanthracycline can be an effective alternative in ovarian cancer treatment.
The present study was aimed at investigating the metabolic regulation of insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I) expression in fasting animals. The expression of IGF-I gene was determined by a solution hybridization/RNase protection assay using total RNA from control, 4d-fasting, and 2d-fasting-refed rats. The levels of IGF-I transcripts were reduced in 4d-fasting than in control by decreasing its transcriptional rate, which was measured through nuclear nun-on assay. DNase I footprinting, which was performed using nuclear extracts from fasting rat, demonstrated protein binding to a sequence that extended from +179 to +210 (termed region B). These data suggest that the expression of IGF-I is transcriptionally regulated through DNA-liver enriched protein binding in a sequence which is located downstream from major transcription initiation site of IGF-I gene.
We demonstrate enhanced growth, innate immunity and protection against hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$)-induced protein oxidation and cellular DNA damage in olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus fed a chitosan-coated moist pallet (MP) diet. A chitosan-based biopolymer coated MP as the experimental diet and a non-coated MP (control) was fed to olive flounder fish. Growth, including the average weight gain (g/fish), weight gain (%) and feed intake (g) of the fish group fed a chitosan-coated MP diet increased significantly. The survival rate was reported as 100% throughout the experimental period. Immunological parameters indicated higher mucus lysozyme activity and significantly higher fish skin mucus total protein content was observed in fish fed the chitosan-coated MP diet compared to the control. A blood plasma analysis revealed attenuation of cellular DNA and protein oxidative damage caused by $H_2O_2$-induced oxidative stress in the fish fed the chitosan-coated MP diet compared to the control group. Moreover, blood serum biochemical analysis revealed health-promoting effects, including significantly higher hemoglobin and total cholesterol levels in the fish fed the chitosan-coated MP diet compared to the control group. In conclusion, growth, innate immunity and protection against oxidative stresses were improved by feeding of the chitosan-coated MP diet to olive flounder reared in aquaculture.

Sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers are one of the most effective and accurate tools for microbial identification. In this study, we applied SCAR markers for the rapid and accurate detection of Phytophthora katsurae, the casual agent of chestnut ink disease in Korea. In this study, we developed seven SCAR markers specific to P. katsurae using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD), and assessed the potential of the SCAR markers to serve as tools for identifying P. katsurae. Seven primer pairs (SOPC 1F/SOPC 1R, SOPC 1-1F/SOPC 1-1R, SOPC 3F/SOPC 3R, SOPC 4F/SOPC 4R, SOPC 4F/SOPC 4-1R, SOPD 9F/SOPD 9R, and SOPD 10F/SOPD 10R) from a sequence derived from RAPD fragments were designed for the analysis of the SCAR markers. To evaluate the specificity and sensitivity of the SCAR markers, the genomic DNA of P. katsurae was serially diluted 10-fold to final concentrations from 1 mg/mL to 1 pg/mL. The limit of detection using the SCAR markers ranged from $100{\mu}g/mL$ to 100 ng/mL. To identify the limit for detecting P. katsurae zoospores, each suspension of zoospores was serially diluted 10-fold to final concentrations from $10{\times}10^5$ to $10{\times}10^1$ zoospores/mL, and then extracted. The limit of detection by SCAR markers was approximately $10{\times}10^1$ zoospores/mL. PCR detection with SCAR markers was specific for P. katsurae, and did not produce any P. katsurae-specific PCR amplicons from 16 other Phytophthora species used as controls. This study shows that SCAR markers are a useful tool for the rapid and effective detection of P. katsurae.

The ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) cluster was located in the nucleolus organizer and was genetically determined as one locus. We speculated by using sequence differences in the functional rDNA unit that the segregation time between Chinese and Japanese types of B. mandarina is about three million years ago. The differences of the amount of inserted non-LTR retrotransposons, R1Bm and R2Bm, in rDHA cluster were used for the identification of B.mori strains. (omitted)
