  • Quick-Response Liquid Powder Display ($QR-LPD^{(R)}$) is a promising device for ultra-low-power applications. Several driving methods for this display were investigated in terms of image quality and power consumption. The power consumed both in a panel and in the output circuits of driver LSIs was evaluated by analog circuit simulation and discussed.

  • Recently, TFT-LCD is widely used of medicine machine on the display devices. However, the display precision of TFT-LCD is 8 bits instead of 10 bits of CRT display. If the medical image have more than 8 bits, we must requantize the medical image. We propose an efficient method to reduce medical image from 10 bits into 8 bits by employing human visual perception. The proposed method shows good performance for the medical image display.

  • We developed a Retinal Projection Display for a low vision aid. This device can be applied to a low vision whose visual sense is weak. In the device, a digital image was formed with spatial light modulator(SLM) and projected onto a retina with the Maxwellian View. The image on this display can be seen clearly without our ocular accommodation and a low vision can see it without correction of a refraction error.

  • Several innovations for reducing the bulkiness of glass bulbs for flat and large CRTs have been made and further technologies are being developed by using material and structural approaches. The integrated glass technology based on these innovations will provide a lightweight shallow glass bulb for the realization of a half- depth CRT.

  • Integral imaging is an attractive three-dimensional display technique providing full-parallax full-color three-dimensional images in real-time without any viewing aids. In this paper, we present the recent progress on the three-dimensional display based on integral imaging focusing on its depth and viewing angle enhancement and the three-dimension/twodimension convertibility.

  • In order to find out LC cell spacing method suitable for flexible cholesteric LCDs with high mechanical stability, we carried out bending and mechanical shock tests by using various spacing techniques: bead spacer, photo spacer, polymer wall with bead spacer and polymer wall with photo spacer. As a result, it was found that the spacing method using polymer wall incorporated with photo spacer is the best for flexible cholesteric LCDs in terms of mechanical stability. The investigation is discussed in detail.

  • The relation between light sources and screen cells is considered part of the theoretical model of an autostereoscopic 3D display. The geometry of the image and observer regions is presented, including the cases of single and multiple regions. The characteristic function is introduced. Formulas for the geometric parameters are obtained, including areas and angles. Special attention is drawn to the screen location. The method of transforming the formulas between regions is stated. For multiple regions, geometric dissimilarity was found. This allows the model to be applied in finding the geometric characteristics of multiview and integral-imaging 3D displays.

  • MgO thick film for ac-PDPs was formed via electrophoresis deposition process and its effect on luminance and luminance efficiency were evaluated. The electrophoresis deposition process of MgO thick film was optimized through parametric study and defects levels in MgO powders was evaluated using cathodoluminescence spectra measurements. The results demonstrate a possibility of using MgO thick film as electron emission layer for ac-PDPs.
