  • A comprehensive comparison of fatty acid and metabolite profiles in 8 species of perilla seeds harvested from Korea and China was carried out to understand the correlation between cultivation conditions and the quality of perilla seeds. Metabolomic studies revealed that the perilla seeds were distinct from each other, based on the partial least squares -discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) score plots; 23 compounds including metabolites, fatty acids, and phytosterols that predominantly contributed to this interspecies difference were identified. Changes in the growth environment affected these compounds. In particular, phenolic compounds were affected by rainfall and temperature. Moreover, temperature and altitude showed negative and positive correlations, respectively, to oleic acid. Although more studies on the effect of various environmental factors on cultivation of perilla plants as well as their seeds are needed, the present results provide information that would be useful in identifying perilla seeds produced in specific regions and in the cultivation of good quality perilla.

  • This study was intended to set development priorities for five undeveloped neighborhood parks scattered throughout the downtown area of Cheongju City using a PDPI(Park Development Pressure Index). In order to calculate the PDPI, this study employed an additive integration method. The PDPI was graded from 1 to 5, based on the evaluation scores in accordance with nine indicators selected through literature reviews and interviews with public officials. The indicators have been classified into three categories: physical environment, utilization possibility, and facility distribution. The indicators are as follows: 1) 'altitude and inclination' and 'NDVI' as physical environment indicators; 2) 'ratio of residential area', 'forecasted utility population', 'undeveloped period', 'redevelopment near parks', 'ratio of area divided by main streets', reflecting utilization possibility; and 3) 'Distance between Neighborhood Parks' and 'Distribution of alternative facilities' as facility distribution. The following results were found: 1) three neighborhood parks including 'Sagic 2', 'Sachen', and 'Dangsan' were ranked in the first grade of PDPI; and, 2) one neighborhood park 'Samsungdang' was ranked in the fifth grade of PDPI. The above results mean that among undeveloped neighborhood parks, three have been exposed to extremely strong park development pressure, and that while two neighborhood parks have had strong exposure to park development pressure due to potential users according to their close location to Sagic Ro, an east-west main axis of Cheongju City, one neighborhood park has had weak exposure to development pressure because of the close location to 'Chuungbuk National University' and a lack of residential areas, showing a low possibility for development.

  • This study investigated the public opinion on the use and conservation management of national park, to manage the growing demand of national park visit and to support the policy direction of national park. So far, various surveys and big data analysis on the use and perception of national park have been conducted, but there have been limitations such as lack of survey questions on issues in park management and use. In addition, the object of the previous studies were limited to the national park visitors; therefore, this study expanded the object of survey from national park visitors to ordinary citizens. Unlike previous studies conducted only on national park visitors, ordinary citizens relatively prefered bottom areas rather than high-altitude ones. A policy to limit the visit to high-ridge area of mountain is being currently driven; however, the survey results of ordinary citizens suggested to maintain current policies or to increase visitor reservations system within narrow limits. On the other hand, the proportion of citizens who have used the visitor-reservation system was very small. We discuss the difference between national park visitors and ordinary citizens and the policy conditions according to changes in park management principles and public attitudes toward national parks.

  • The effects of vertical resolutions and planetary boundary layer (PBL) physics schemes in a numerical simulation with a very high resolution over the metropolitan area were investigated. The numerical experiments using the Weather Research and Forecast model were conducted from 0000 UTC 25 October to 0000 UTC 26 October 2013. We verified the numerical results against with six hourly observation data from the radiosonde at Seolleung, which was located in southern part of Seoul, and forty three auto weather systems in Seoul. In the experiments of vertical resolutions in low level atmosphere with 44, 50, and 60 layers, which are set to be subdivided particularly under 2 km height. The experiment in 60 layers, which has the highest vertical resolution in this study, showed relatively a clear diurnal variation of PBL heights. Especially, the difference of PBL heights and 10-meter wind fields were mainly seen in the area of high altitude lands for the experiments of vertical resolution. In the sensitivity experiment of PBL schemes such as asymmetric convective model-version 2 (ACM2), Yonsei University (YSU), and Mellow-Yamada-Janjic (MYJ) to the temperature, all three PBL schemes revealed lower temperature than observed profile from the radiosonde in the entire period. The experiments with YSU PBL and ACM2 PBL schemes show relatively less biased in comparison with the experiment of the MYJ PBL scheme.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the applicability and efficiency of water supply using hydraulic ram pump. Study area is the Imgok-ri, Hwanam-myeon, Sanju-si, Kyeongsangbuk-do. There is an abandoned coal mine, where groundwater is discharged from its entrance with a flow rate of approximately $260m^3/day$. Hydraulic ram pump uses the waterhammer phenomenon and utilizes the power of falling water for pumping part of that water to a higher elevation than the water sources without electric power. To determine the efficiency of hydraulic ram pump, the flow rate was measured at three points according to the altitude difference (${\Delta}h=19m$ (point 1), 30 m (point 2), 40 m (point 3)). Flow rate measured at 1, 2, and 3 were about $8.6{\sim}10.8m^3/day$, $3.98{\sim}4.39m^3/day$, and $2.35{\sim}2.59m^3/day$, respectively. The current results suggested that, hydraulic ram pump could be applicable for the water supply system in mountain areas without external power supply.

  • As hyperspectral sensors that can be mounted on drones are developed, it is possible to acquire hyperspectral imagery with high spatial and spectral resolution. Although the importance of atmospheric correction has been reduced since imagery of drones were acquired at a low altitude, studies on the conversion process from raw data to spectral reflectance should be done for studies such as estimating the concentration of surface materials using hyperspectral imagery. In this study, a vicarious radiometric calibration and an atmospheric correction algorithm based on atmospheric radiation transfer model were applied to hyperspectral data of drone and the results were compared and analyzed. The vicarious calibration method was applied to an empirical line calibration using the spectral reflectance of a tarp made of uniform material. The atmospheric correction algorithm used ATCOR-4 based Modran-5 that was widely used for the atmospheric correction of aerial hyperspectral imagery. As a result of analyzing the RMSE of the difference between the reference reflectance and the correction, the vicarious calibration using the tarp in a single period of hyperspectral image was the most accurate, but the atmospheric correction was possible according to the application purpose of using hyperspectral imagery. If the correction process of normalized spectral reflectance is carried out through the additional vicarious calibration for imagery from multiple periods in the future, accurate analysis using hyperspectral drone imagery will be possible.

  • To understand the vegetation structure in the ridgeline area of Nakdong-jeongmaek, six primary areas in Nakdong-jeongmaek were selected and their vegetation distribution was surveyed considering the environmental conditions and artificial influences. According to the results of community classification based on TWINSPAN, the vegetation in the surveyed region was categorized into 9 groups: Betula costata-Quercus mongolica community, Q. mongolica community, Pinus densiflora-Q. mongolica community, P. densiflora community, Deciduous oaks-P. densiflora community, Deciduous oaks community, P. thunbergii community, P. koraiensis-P. rigida community, and Chamaecyparis obtusa-Alnus firma community. In Baekbyeongsan(Mt.) located in Taebaek-si of Gangwon-do, Betula costata-Quercus mongolica community was found, reflecting the environmental characteristics of northern temperate climate. P. thunbergii community appeared in Gudeoksan(Mt.) of Busan metropolitan city, which is near the coast. Since Gudeoksan(Mt.) is near to the downtown and its altitude above the sea is relatively low, people visit the area often. Therefore, C. obtusa and P. thunbergii have been planted for producing forest trees and implementing anti-erosion afforestation. In the other primary survey areas, Q. mongolica-dominant communities, P. densiflora-dominant communities, and deciduous oak-dominant communities, which are representative forest vegetation types of Jeongmaeks in South Korea, were mainly distributed, showing no significant difference compared to the forest vegetation types of other Jeongmaeks. Since the Nakdong-jeongmaek from south to north, it shows clear characteristics of vegetation changes between the northern temperate climate and the warm temperate climate of the south.

  • In this study, the natural ventilation pressure resulting from the large altitude difference which is a characteristic of high radioactive waste repository and the caloric value of the heat emitted by wastes was calculated and based on the results, natural ventilation quantities were calculated. A high radioactive waste repository can be considered as being operated through closed cycle thermodynamic processes similar to those of thermal engines. The heat produced by the heating of high radioactive wastes in the underground repository is added to the surrounding air, and the air goes up through the upcast vertical shaft due to the added heat while working on its surroundings. Part of the heat added by the work done by the air can be temporarily changed into mechanical energy to promote the air flow. Therefore, if a sustained and powerful heat source exists in the repository, the heat source will naturally enable continued cyclic flows of air. Based on this assumption, the quantity of natural ventilation made during the disposal of high radioactive wastes in a deep geological layer was mathematically calculated and based on the results, natural ventilation pressure of $74{\sim}183$Pa made by the stack effect was identified along with the resultant natural ventilation quantity of $92.5{\sim}147.7m^3/s$. The result of an analysis by CFD was $82{\sim}143m^3/s$ which was very similar to the results obtained by the mathematical method.

  • In modern recently technology, 3D-Audio is used to enhance immersion in Virtual Reality. This includes interest of people about VR and AR, which related to the field of computer graphics. In fact, a lot of research has been carried out in recent years into a 3D sound field. However, the existing 3D generator device used for virtual reality does not contain Doppler effect occurred by the sound comes to or leave from a listener, while an angle from the listener and the altitude of the source sound are applied. Therefore, this paper present 3D real sound utilizing Doppler effect with spatial-rotation-speaker. We map the source sound in 3D-space into a real space where a user stays and present 3D real sound by manipulating with rotation angle, phase difference, sound output volume of the sound in 3D-space, according to the location of a virtual source sound. Utilizing both natural Doppler effect of rotating sound that is occurring by spatial-rotation-speaker and artificial Doppler effect generated by frequency-modulation of sound quality could improving the virtual reality for sound condition for perspective listening.
