영양가 계산을 위한 새로운 식품코드화 (New Food Code Numbering for Calculation of Nutritive Value)

  • New food item numbers for each food included in Food Composition Table in Korea (4th ed) and other Food Composition Table. New Food item numbers classified to base 5-basic food groups and its classification was as follows. 1 As for the 1569 food items , they were classified as 20 food sub-groups(82 food sorts) for 5-basic food groups. 2. As for the 82 food sorts, they were individually classified with raw prepared , fat sugar content and arranged in order, ㄱ , ㄴ and ㄷ and made the item number. 3. The data set of nutritive value of food with new item numbers was accessed on computer files. 4. The Food & Description Table was drafted as 1572 food items were arranged in order, ㄱ, ㄴand ㄷ. 5. The Food Table arranged in the order or each nutrient content (energy, carbohydrate, protein , etc....) was drafted. Clipper program for computing nutritive values and tabulation of nutrients of daily diet were coded by applying new food item numbers. It is expected that should utilized as a basic data of computer program for calculating the nutritive value of diet, evaluating the nutrition and counseling the nutrition.

식품섭취도 조사지의 개발 및 타당도 검증에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development and Validation of Food Frequncy Questionnaire for Koreans)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the Food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for dietary studies of Koreans. One hundred and five food items for the Food frequency questionnaire were selected based on information of frequently consumed foods from National Nutrition Survey Reports and on raw data from a dietary survey on diabetic patients. Frequency of consumption was determined through nine categories ranging from more than three times a day to almost never to indicate how often the specified amount of each food item was consumed during the past month. Three portion sizes were given for each food item(small, medium or large) with respect to a stated medium portion. Seventy-three healthy women served for the validation study. They completed both the FFQ and a 3-day diet record. The FFQ estimate of mean nutrient intake was higher by 10-20% than that of the 3-days diet record and the Spearman correlation coefficients between the two methods ranged from 0.26 to 0.59 . The degree of agreement was from 36% to 38% when nutrients intake assessed by the FFQ and 3day diet record were classified within the same quintile. On the whole , the result of this study seemed to be in good agreement with other studies. Therefore the FFQ developed in this study is considered to be a reliable tool in assessing the dietary habits of Korean.

한국 여수 연안에 출현하는 참문어(Octopus vulgaris)의 위내용물 조성 (Diet Composition of Common Octopus Octopus vulgaris in the Coastal Waters of Yeosu, Korea)

  • The diet composition of octopus Octopus vulgaris was studied using 392 specimens collected from January to December 2020 in the coastal waters of Yeosu, Korea. The body weight ranged from 86.4 to 3,645.4 g. The most important prey item in the diet of O. vulgaris was decapods, which constituted 43.9% in ranking index (%RI). The second largest prey item was Pisces (%RI=27.9%), and cephalopods (%RI=21.8%) constituted the third largest prey item. The average trophic level of O. vulgaris was 3.97±0.59. Ontogenetic changes were significant among size classes (<400 g, 400-800 g, ≥800 g). The small size class (<400 g) mainly fed on decapods, whereas the medium (400-800 g) and large size (≥800 g) classes mainly fed on cephalopods and Pisces, respectively. The dietary composition varied significantly with season.

심근 경색증 환자의 질병관련 지식과 건강행위 이행 (Knowledge Level and Compliance of Health Behavior in Patients with Myocardial Infarction)

  • Purpose : This study purposes to examine the knowledge level and compliance of health behavior in patients with myocardial infarction to develope a cardiac rehabilitation program. Method: The subjects consisted of 72 patients with myocardial infarction, hospitalized at three university-affiliated hospitals. The data were collected by interviewing their subjects using a questionnaire and reviewing the medical records from September 15, 1999 to July 31, 2000. Data were analyzed using the SAS program for Windows version 6.12. Results: 1 The average knowledge score of the patients was 19.7 and the average compliance score was 53.9. 2. Knowledge scores were highest in the items of avoiding overeating and taking medicine at prescribed dosage, and lowest in the item of when to avoid sexual activity. 3. Knowledge level were highest on domains of exercise & daily activities, and risk factors and followed by diet. medication. and nature of disease. 4. Those who had higher education, or were living with a spouse were significantly higher in knowledge score. 5. Compliance score was highest in the item of smoking cessation and lowest in the item of measuring heart rate regularly. 6. Compliance score was highest on domain of smoking cessation and followed by diet, exercise, others, and managing mental stress. 7. Female patients had significantly higher compliance scores of health behavior on domain of diet than male patients. 8. The knowledge score was positively correlated to compliance of health behaviors. Conclusion: According to the above findings, it can be concluded that intensive nursing care and education should be provided to the patients who have lower education or are living without a spouse. Also, nursing intervention should be developed to increase compliance of managing mental stress and doing regular exorcise.

서울지역 산업체 급식소 고객의 급식 나트륨 저감화 운영 및 필요성에 대한 인식 (Customers' Perceptions of Operational Status of and Needs for Sodium Reduction in the Industry Foodservice in Seoul)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to compare customers' perceptions of the need for a low-sodium diet and sodium-reduced operations in the industry foodservice by age. The relationships between health concerns and perceptions of the need for sodium-reduced operations and low-sodium diets in the industry foodservice were analyzed. Methods: A survey was conducted among 340 industry foodservice customers aged 20-50 years and residing in Seoul, Korea. This study investigated the respondents' health concerns, their perception of the need for sodium-reduced foodservice operations, their perception of a sodium-reduced diet, and the general details of the foodservices they used. A cross-tabulation analysis and ANOVA were performed to identify differences in measurement items by age, and a simple regression analysis was performed to examine relationships between measurement items. Results: For the customers' perception of the need for a sodium-reduced foodservice operation, the item "it is necessary to provide separate spices and sauces to reduce sodium intake" achieved the highest score (3.88 points out of a possible 5 points). For the perception of a sodium-reduced diet, the item "I think it is helpful for one's health" obtained the highest score (4.13 points). Respondents' health concerns had a positive effect on increasing the level of perception of the need for sodium-reduced foodservice operations and that of a sodium-reduced diet. Conclusions: Foodservice nutritionists could help enhance their customers' perceptions of the needs for sodium-reduced foodservice operations and sodium-reduced diets by frequently providing them with sodium-related health information.

Diet Composition of Japanese Tree Frog (Hyla japonica) in a Rice Paddy, South Korea

  • Diet composition of amphibians usually reflects the distribution of potential prey within habitats, as well as their diet preference. We identified the diet items of Japanese tree frog (Hyla japonica) using a stomach flushing method in a rice paddy for the establishment of bio-monitoring systems of landscape changes. During the reproductive period, 71% of calling males had empty stomachs. All prey items in the stomachs belonged to the phylum Arthropoda, from eight orders of Insecta and one order of Arachnida. Among insect prey, the most common items in the stomachs were adults of beetles, flies and bugs, and larvae of butterflies and moths. There was a significant positive correlation between the body mass of Japanese tree frogs and the volume of prey items. Our results can provide a basic framework to guide the monitoring systems using prey identification of Japanese tree frogs.

  • Objectives : This study is to examine associations between diet and eating behavior with body mass index(BMI) in Korean office ladies. Methods: From OCT 2004 to OCT 2005, we collected obese office ladies who visited to the oriental obesity clinic and control group who were matched by age, occupation, working hours. Weight and height were self-reported. Subjects were divided to obese and non obese group by body mass index(BMI). Diet, eating behavior were determined from 21-item self-administered questionnaire. Independent paired t test was used for analyzing associations between diet, eating behavior and body mass index(BMI) Results: There were 141 participants in obese group and 50 participants in control group. Eating fast, skipping breakfast, night eating habit(p<.001), eating fatty food, drinking alcohol were highly positively associated with body mass index(BMI) values. There was no conclusive evidence that diet except fatty food were related to obesity. Conclusions: Eating behaviors are strongly related in obesity but associations between diet and obesity are not clear.

가항늪에 서식하는 황소개구리(Lithobates catesbeianus)의 먹이원 분석 연구 (A Study on the Diet Items of American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) in Ga-hang Wetland, Korea)

  • 본 연구는 황소개구리의 성별 및 성숙도, 시기에 따른 먹이원 및 포식 습성을 확인하기 위해 2014년 4월부터 9월까지 경상남도 창녕군 가항늪에서 진행하였다. 황소개구리 먹이원은 위 절제술을 통해 위에서 직접 수집하였으며, 위 내용물을 종 수준까지 동정하였다. 연구결과, 황소개구리는 크고 무거운 개체일수록 많은 양의 먹이를 포식하는 것으로 나타났으나, 성별 및 성숙도에 따른 포식량은 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 연구기간 동안 황소개구리의 먹이원은 곤충강(개체 수 평균 비율 65.5%)이 가장 높은 비중을 차지하였고, 그 다음으로는 갑각강(13.5%), 복족강(7.9%) 순으로 나타났다. 황소개구리는 곤충강의 물자라(Muljarus japonicus)를 가장 많이 포식한 것으로 확인되었으며, 박새(Parus major), 등줄쥐(Apodemus agrarius), 땃쥐(Crocidura lasiura) 등도 황소개구리의 먹이원으로 나타났다. 황소개구리는 습지생태계의 교란에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, 이러한 결과들은 환경부 생태교란 생물로 지정되어 있는 황소개구리가 습지생태계에 미치는 영향을 확인하는데 중요한 기초자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Comparison of five international indices of adherence to the Mediterranean diet among healthy adults: similarities and differences

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: To compare five indices of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (MD) among adults living in the Mediterranean region. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A total of 100 healthy Lebanese adults aged between 18 and 65 years. Face-to-face interviews to collect sociodemographic and medical information, to take anthropometric measurements, and to fill a validated, culturally adapted, food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The score for each item was calculated following the recommendations for each corresponding index. The five MD indices were Mediterranean Diet Scale (MDScale), Mediterranean Food Pattern (MFP), MD Score (MDS), Short Mediterranean Diet Questionnaire (SMDQ), and the MedDiet score. RESULTS: Significant correlations were detected between items with P-values < 0.001. Minimal agreement was seen between MDScale and MedDiet score and maximal agreement between MDS and MedDiet score. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that MDS and MedDiet scores had significant correlations with fiber and olive oil intake, main components of the MD. MDScale showed a significant correlation with waist-to-hip ratio and with total energy intake but none of the five indices was correlated to body mass index (BMI). CONCLUSIONS: The indices that showed the highest correlation with variables related to the MD are the MDScale and the MedDiet score; therefore, they can be used to assess our future study populations. Based on the current results, more than half of the study population was non-adherent to the MD and adherence to this diet did not appear to protect against being overweight ($BMI{\geq}30$).

제2형 당뇨병 환자의 질병관련 지식 (A Survey of Knowledge of Diabetes in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the knowledge of diabetes and insulin use in patients with type 2 diabetes. Method: Participants (139) were recruited from the endocrinology outpatient department of a tertiary care hospital in an urban city. Knowledge of diabetes knowledge was measured by a brief diabetes knowledge test which had two components: a 14-item general test and a 9-item insulin-use subscale. Result: The average scores for knowledge of diabetes and insulin were 62.4 and 41.8 respectively. Scores were lower for items on the definition of glycosylated hemoglobin, diabetic diet, signs of ketoacidosis, and insulin reaction compared to other items. Knowledge scores were significantly lower for older participants, those who had lower levels of education, those who did not have a spouse, those who did not have a job, those who were not being treated with insulin, and those who tested their blood glucose less than 3 times a day. Conclusion: Definition of glycosylated hemoglobin, diabetic diet, signs of ketoacidosis, and insulin reaction should be included in education for patients with type 2 diabetes. Special education programs should be developed for elderly people, those with low levels of education those without a spouse, or without a job, or who are not being treated with insulin.
