  • The Decision-directed (DD) algorithm is known to be not effective to initialize a blind equalizer in the channel conditions when the eye diagram of received signals is completely closed because it can not open the eye diagram enough. In this paper, we propose a new error to replace the error of the conventional DD algorithm. The new DD error is the conventional DD error scaled by the modulus of symbol decision, new DD algorithm using this error is effective to open the closed eye diagram in early stage of equalization unlike the conventional DD. The new DD algorithm appling the new error is showed excellent convergence characteristics as compared to the CMA widely used in blind initialization, particularly, is useful for equalization of signals having multimodulus. The performance of the new DD algorithm is verified through the simulation for the higher-order QAM signals.

  • It is well known that the DD-plot is a useful graphical tool for non-parametric classification. In this paper, we propose another use of DD-plot for detecting the out-of-control state in multivariate process. We suggested a dynamic version of DD-plot and its accompanying a quality index plot in such case.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of diaper dermatitis (DD), knowledge of DD prevention and treatment, and diaper hygiene practices among mothers with diaper-wearing children. Methods: The participants were 176 mothers who presented to an outpatient clinic at a children's hospital with diaper-wearing children. Data were collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire. Results: The percent of correct answer for knowledge about DD was 59.7%. Almost half of the participants' children had experienced at least 1 episode of DD during the last 6 months. Inappropriate diaper hygiene practices, such as using talcum powder on DD and rubbing with a dry towel after cleansing, were reported. Moreover, only 37% of mothers used the recommended skin barrier to prevent DD. Although many children suffer from DD, levels of educational experience and perceived need for education on this topic were low. Almost 70% of mothers obtained DD-related information through internet sites. Conclusion: Educating parents about the etiology of DD and evidence-based diaper hygiene practices is an important aspect of effective DD prevention and treatment. Internet sites or smartphone apps may be effective methods for education on DD prevention and treatment considering parents' preferences for ways to obtain health information.

  • Temperature-associated emergence patterns for a hydropsychid caddisfly, Hydropsyche kozhantschikovi, were studied from the Wangsuk creek in Kyonggi-do from April to June in 1999. Emerging adults were quantitatively collected by pyramidshaped emergence traps. Water temperature was hourly monitored in 1999. The emergence began at April 15 when the daily mean water temperature rose to ca. $10^{\circ}C$: it rapidly increased and peaked in ca. 10 days, and continued to May 25, lasting 40 days since the starting date. The average number of emerged adults was $35.8\;inds./m^2$ and their sex ratio was male (M) : female (F) = 1 : 2.04. The emergence of males was ca. 2 days earlier than that of females. Daily, the emergence was a bigeminans pattern representing the major peak (66.7%) just after dark ($19:00{\sim}21:00$) and theminor peak (11.1%) just before dawn ($05:00{\sim}07:00$). According to our degree dayaccumulation (DD) model, it respectively required 453.89DD (M: 440.48DD and F: 473.97 DD), 615.71DD (M: 610.18DD and F: 622.09DD), and 820.24DD (M: 828.25DD and F: 804.71DD) to begin, to reach the peak, and to finish the emergence.

  • This study was conducted to investigate occurrence and host ranges of Liriomyza trifolii Burgess, American serpentineleafminer, in Chonnam province. Also, temperature effects on the development along with morphologicalcharacteristics in each instar of L. trifolii were studied. L. hifolii was observed from 22 species inthe 7 families. Gerbera, chrysanthemum and tomato were the most damaged host plants. Egg was transparentwhite with lengthlwidth of 0.27 mm10.25 mm while matured larva was yellow with that of 2.03 mm10.80 mmrevealing serpentine gallary under leaf cuticle. Pupa was light brown with that of 1.75 mrn10.74 mm and pupatedon the soil and/or leaf surface. Lengthlwing span of adult was 1.78 mm/3.43 mm. Number of oviposition/sucking punches by L. bifolii adult was 26.1% and 13.3% in tomato and gerbera leaves respectively. Feedingactivity of larval stage was highest at 2OoC. Developmental~threshold (DT) and effective accumulative temperatures(ET) on gerbera leaves were 11.2"C, 33.9DD in egg, 10.3'C, 38.6DD in larva, 10.7"C, 152.3DD inpupa, and 10.8"C, 222.8DD from egg to pupa. On tomato leaves, DT and ET were 13.6"C, 20.2DD in egg, 9.3"C, 43.7DD in larva, ll.O$^{\circ}$C, 114.3DD in pupa, and 11.6"C 178.2DD from egg to pupaDD in pupa, and 11.6"C 178.2DD from egg to pupa pupa.

  • Several members of tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily that these members activate caspase-8 from death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) in TNF ligand-receptor signal transduction have been identified. In the extrinsic pathway, apoptotic signal transduction is induced in death domain (DD) superfamily; it consists of a hexahelical bundle that contains 80 amino acids. The DD superfamily includes about 100 members that belong to four subfamilies: death domain (DD), caspase recruitment domain (CARD), pyrin domain (PYD), and death effector domain (DED). This superfamily contains key building blocks: with these blocks, multimeric complexes are formed through homotypic interactions. Furthermore, each DD-binding event occurs exclusively. The DD superfamily regulates the balance between death and survival of cells. In this study, the structures, functions, and unique features of DD superfamily members are compared with their complexes. By elucidating structural insights of DD superfamily members, we investigate the interaction mechanisms of DD domains; these domains are involved in TNF ligand-receptor signaling. These DD superfamily members play a pivotal role in the development of more specific treatments of cancer.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between rotational disk displacement (DD) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the dentoskeletal morphology. Methods: Women aged > 17 years were included in this study. Each subject had a primary complaint of malocclusion and underwent routine cephalometric examinations. They were divided into five groups according to the findings on sagittal and coronal magnetic resonance images of their TMJs: bilateral normal disk position, bilateral anterior DD with reduction (ADDR), bilateral rotational DD with reduction (RDDR), bilateral anterior DD without reduction (ADDNR), and bilateral rotational DD without reduction (RDDNR). Twenty-three cephalometric variables were analyzed, and the Kruskal-Wallis test was used to evaluate differences in the dentoskeletal morphology among the five groups. Results: Patients with TMJ DD exhibited a hyperdivergent pattern with a retrognathic mandible, unlike those with a normal disk position. These specific skeletal characteristics were more severe in patients exhibiting DD without reduction than in those with reduction, regardless of the presence of rotational DD. Rotational DD significantly influenced horizontal and vertical skeletal patterns only in the stage of DD with reduction, and the mandible exhibited a more backward position and rotation in patients with RDDR than in those with ADDR. However, there were no significant dentoskeletal differences between ADDNR and RDDNR. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that rotational DD of TMJ plays an important role in the dentoskeletal morphology, particularly in patients showing DD with reduction.

  • We use the regression model with the indicator variables in the case that we use qualitative variables as some predictor variables in regression analysis. We use the ANCOVA(Analysis of Covariance) model when comparing the response variable among groups while statistically controlling for variation in the response variable caused by a variation in the covariate. DD-plot can be used as a graphical exploratory data analysis tool before the confirmatory data analysis. With the DD-plot, we can discriminate the difference of groups in the regression model with the indicator variables or the ANCOVA model at a glance. Making DD-plot does not demand the statistical model assumption about error terms in regression model. Several examples show the usefulness of DD-plots as a graphical exploratory data analysis tool for the regression analysis.

  • This paper proposes and efficient routing scheme named MP-DD(MultiPath-Direct Diffusion) which are simple enough to be applicable to the wireless sensor networks. Conventional DD(Direct Diffusion) uses only one optimal path, therefore it consumes more energy of specific nodes. MP-DD uses multiple path and has a information of hop upstream node in the direction of the base-station. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase network survivability compared to conventional DD and EAR(Energy Aware Routing) schemes.
