  • A compact metamaterial (MTM)-based tunable phase shifter consisting of four unit cells with a simple DC bias circuit has been designed at 2.4 GHz. The variable series capacitors and shunt inductors that are required to be loaded periodically onto a host transmission line are realized employing only chip variable capacitors (varactors). In addition, the proposed phase shifter requires only one DC bias source to control the varactors, with the matching condition of the MTM line automatically satisfied. The measured phase shifting range is $285.2^{\circ}$ (from $-74.2^{\circ}$ to $211^{\circ}$). The measured insertion loss is approximately 1.5 dB. The circuit/electromagnetic-simulated and measured results are in good agreement.

  • In this paper, A progressive coding of mean difference pyramid by Hadamard transform of the difference between two successive pyramid levels has been studied. A block adaptive bit allocation method based on ac energy of each sub-block has been proposed, which efficiently reduces the final distortion in the progressive transmission of image parameters. In our scheme, the dc energy equals the sum of the quantization errors of the Hadamard transform coefficients at previous level. Therefore proposed allocation method includes the estimation of dc energy at each pyramid level. Computer simulation results show some improvements in terms of MSE and picture quality over the conventional fixed allocation scheme.

  • A distance relaying algorithm for detecting faults at power transmission line is presented in this paper. The algorithm is based on differential equation from relaton between voltage and current, which is composed of lumped resistance and inductance. During the fault transient state, the voltage and current signals are severely distorted due to the exponentially decaying DC offset and high frequency components, In spite of using small data, the presented integral method to evaluate R and L from voltage and current has high performance against these harmonics including DC offset. Therefore, the presented algorithm can be implemented with only a low order anti-aliasing analog filter and dosen't need any digital filter to remove specific components.

  • A 5.8-GHz 1W wireless power transmission system was used for charging a smart phone. The voltage of one RF power receiver with antenna was not enough for charging. Several power receivers for charging a smart phone was connected serially. The voltage of several RF power receivers are highly enough for charging a smart phone within 50cm. However, the lack of current from small capacitances of RF-DC converters is not suitable for charging smart phone. It means very long charging time. In this paper, the voltage multiplier circuits for RF-DC converters were analyzed to increase the current and voltage at the same time to reduce the charging time in smartphone RF wireless charging. Through the analysis of multiplier circuits, the 7-stage parallel multiplier circuit with voltage-doubler units are suitable for charging the smartphone, which supplies 5V and 700mA at 3V@5.8GHz.

  • In this paper, we propose an artificial intelligence-based high-speed fault diagnosis method using an FPGA in the event of a ground fault in a DC system. When applying artificial intelligence algorithms to fault diagnosis, a substantial amount of computation and real-time data processing are required. By employing an FPGA with AI-based high-speed fault diagnosis, the DC breaker can operate more rapidly, thereby reducing the breaking capacity of the DC breaker. therefore, in this paper, an intelligent high-speed diagnosis algorithm was implemented by collecting fault data through fault simulation of a DC system using Matlab/Simulink. Subsequently, the proposed intelligent high-speed fault diagnosis algorithm was applied to the FPGA, and performance verification was conducted.

  • In this paper, a rectenna for wireless power transmission at 900MHz is proposed. Rectenna is a device transforming RF power into DC power and it may consist of a antenna, rectifying and charging circuits. In this paper, we designed a slot antenna to receive 900MHz signal, a rectifying circuit of about 40% efficiency at 0dBm input, and a charging circuit to store a weak power signal and supply constant voltage to load. From the experiment using a RFID reader as a transmitter for 1W power, it was found that the proposed rectenna receiving about 0dBm power can supply 3.3V constant voltage to 50$k{\Omega}$ load during 280sec.

  • In this paper, we design rectifing circuits at 910MHz, which is used for passive RFID system, for wireless power transmission system by using two types of schottkey diodes HSMS_2822 and HSMS 2852, and the RF-DC conversion efficiencies for the curcuits are compared and analyzed in terms of input power and load resistance. When the input power is -20 to 17dBm, the conversion efficiency for HSMS_2852 is larger than in case of HSMS_2822. The output voltage and current at the load of the fabricated rectifying circuit are measured through a dipole antenna when input power is transmitted by a RFID reader and the diatance varies. The measured ouput volatge and current for the distance of 50cm are 2.5V and 5.75mA.

  • We propose an active stabilization method for the receiver of NRZ-DPSK transmission. The 1-bit delayed Mach-Zehlder interferometer is thermally controlled to maintain the largest DC component power ratio between the constructive and destructive output ports, for the optimum transmission condition. This method is very cost effective since no additional components are required. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme guarantees error free performance even when there was ~ 1 GHz optical carrier frequency fluctuation in 10 Gbps transmission.

  • This paper deals with simulation of the three-phase dc reactor type fault current limiter(FCL). This is a preliminary step to develop the FCL's faculties for an application to high voltage transmission line. A three-phase dc reactor type FCL consists of transformers, diodes, and a superconducting coil. By this simulation for the short-circuit test we can investigate the safety of FCL's elements. And, result of simulation will contribute parameter toward optimal design.

  • The economic dispatch problem is important in both power system planning and operation, although there have been major advances in defining and solving more complete Optimal Power Flow(OPF) problems, there exists a need for constrained economic dispatch techniques which, though not as rigorous or as exact an OPF, are fast enough to be used on desktop computers. This paper presents a DC-OPF algorithm that is based upon Relative-Contribution Index in Generators. The transmission constraints are modeled as linear constraint based on a DC-Power-Flow model. An detailed illustrative example is presented.
