  • SRM(switched reluctance motor) provides a excellent adjustable speed and torque characteristics. SRM has the possibility of maintaining full power over a wide speed range. So, many attempts are being done from home appliances to industrial applications. Especially, a traction drive of an SRM is one of a good application for it's DC-series characteristic. However, because of the switching mechanism and reluctance torque, it has some disadvantage Of noise and Vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. A performance and noise tests with 6/4 and 12/8 SRM were done to compare the characteristics.

  • 최근의 도시철도 추진시스템은 VVVF 인버터로 제어되기 때문에 대부분 회생제동의 기능을 갖추고 있다. 회생제동 시 발생되는 전력은 그 때의 동일 노선에서 역행하고 있는 열차에 추진에너지로 사용되는 것이 가장 효율적이나 그것이 가능하지 않을 경우 혹은 그렇게 사용하고도 남는 잉여회생에너지가 발생할 경우 변전소의 회생용 인버터를 통해 역사 내에서 소비되는 방법도 많이 응용되고 있다. 이를 위해서는 회생용 인버터가 변전소 내에 설치되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 경량전철시스템의 급전 시스템에서 이러한 회생용 인버터의 경제성분석과 적정용량 및 위치에 관에 논의된다.

However, because of the switching mechanism, it has some disadvantage of noise and vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. A noise simulation of 6/4 and 12/8 SRM was done in order to compare each other, and the design was done carefully.

  • Induction Motor is important at tilting train. Tiling train induction motor should be operated to commercial servicespeed 180km/h at Korea Conventional Line upgrade railroad. As the induction motors are without commutators, maintenance is easy and it is far lighter than the conventional motors with the same capacity. The induction motor, however, posed problems in use as its motor torque is not large enough compared with DC motors. With the recent advances in power semiconductors, it is possible to apply the induction motors to trains by applying VVVF inverter control method to the traction motor. In this study, we realize the stable measurement AC motor temperature characteristic of TTX train.

  • The unmanned vehicle is composed of three parts the front & side sensor system for keeping the lane and avoiding obstacles, the acceleration & brake control system for longitudinal motion control, and the steering control system for the lateral motion control. Each system helps the unmanned vehicle of which should take notice of its location and recognize obstacles around the place by itself and make a decision how much fast to proceed according to circumstances.   • We propose a variable frame structure connected with telescopic mast-shaped shaft for a robot displaying outstanding ability to cross obstacles, and for effective traction control. The wireless control system was built to extend and contract a deployable mechanism, which is shaped into a hoberman sphere assembled with frame structures. In order to develop important parameters for efficient locomotion, we derived an Euler-Lagrange equation for the spherical robot. According to the equation, the DC motor was selected. A prototype mechanism was tested and a Finite-Element Analysis (FEA) was conducted in parallel. Using these data, we constructed a deployable spherical robot with structural stability. The deployable robot moved at a speed of 0.85 m/s from 520 mm to 650 mm.

  • This paper proposes the structure of a smart transformer to improve the performance of the 60Hz main power transformer for rolling stock. The proposed smart transformer is a kind of solid state transformer that consists of semiconductor switching devices and high frequency transformers. This smart transformer would have smaller size than the conventional 60Hz main transformer for rolling stock, making it possible to operate AC electrified track efficiently by power factor control. The proposed structure employs a cascade H-Bridge converter to interface with the high voltage AC single phase grid as the rectifier part. Each H-Bridge converter in the rectifier part is connected by a Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converter to generate an isolated low voltage DC output source of the system. Because the AC voltage in the train system is a kind of medium voltage, the number of the modules would be several tens. To control the entire smart transformer, the inner DC voltage of the modules, the AC input current, and the output DC voltage must be controlled instantaneously. In this paper, a control algorithm to operate the proposed structure is suggested and confirmed through computer simulation.

  • In this paper, AC electric vehicle propulsion system(Converter/Inverter) using high power semiconductor, IPM is proposed. 2-Parallel operation of two PWM converter is adopted for increasing capacity of system and the harmonic content is eliminated by the phase shaft between two PWM converters switching phase. VVVF inverter control is used a mixed control algorithm, where the vector control strategy at low speed region and slip-frequency control strategy at high speed region. The proposed propulsion system is verified by experimental results with a 1,350kW converter and 1,100kVA inverter with four 210kW traction motors.

  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles(HEVs) have seriously come into prevalence recently as car manufacturers and consumers have become more aware of the environmental and economic problems of conventional vehicles. For the alternative power-train and battery cooling systems in HEVs, an effective thermal management system is required, and many automakers are interested in using Brushless DC(BLDC) motors for cooling fans for the overall traction unit's performance and energy saving capability. This paper presents the development status of BLDC motors as major parts of the power-train, i.e. the engine cooling and battery cooling fans of HEVs. A design that uses BLDC motors for the power-train and each battery cooling fan, is successfully implemented through using electro-magnetic analysis, and prototype BLDC motors are examined. As experimental results, the BLDC motors achieved an efficiency of 85% as engine cooling fans and 72% as a battery thermal management fan motor. The electric cogging noise is significantly reduced by changing the skew of the slot pitch angle and optimizing the magnetic shape.
