Advanced LDC Test Bed Using Energy Recovery Technique for HEVs

  • This paper reports the development of test bed with the energy recovering technique using two-step boost converter. The device is utilized for LDC aging test of Hyundai Motor's LPI AVANTE HEV in mass production. The developed power recycle type test bed is designed as 1.5 kW class to test up to the maximum load power of LDC and is also designed to supply scant power supply up to 500 W after power recycle. The theoretical design analysis and operational characteristics analysis results of test bed are reported, and its practicality and reliability are verified through the test result. Also, the finally developed test bed confirms approximately 79~85 % energy saving effect compared to the usual traditional aging test system.

A Active Replica LDO Regulator with DC Matching Circuit (DC정합회로를 갖는 능동 Replica LDO 레귤레이터)

  • In this paper, an active replica Low-dropout(LDO) regulator with DC voltage matching circuit is presented. In order to match the voltage between replica and output of regulator, DC voltage matching circuit is designed. The active replica low dropout regulator has higher Power Supply Rejection(PSR) than that of conventional regulator. The designed DC voltage matching circuit can reduce the drawback that may be occurred in replica regulator. And using fully active element in regulator can reduce the chip area and heat noise with resistor. As results of HSPICE simulation with 0.35um CMOS parameter, the designed active replica LDO regulator achieves Power Supply Rejection, -28@10Hz better than -17@10Hz of conventional replica regulator without DC matching circuit. And the output voltage is 3V.

  • A parallel control algorithm of thyristor dual-converter power system for the DC power supply of railway is proposed. The circulating current and current imbalance generated during parallel operation can be limited to control the output voltage of each power system by using the proposed parallel control algorithm. The proposed control algorithm can also eliminate output current sensor to achieve the same output response without additional costs. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • To improve the efficiency of PDP TV, it should minimize the power losses transpired during AC-to-DC power conversion and PDP driving process. Generally the input power supply for PDP driving employes a two-stage power factor corrected converter, and it independently consists of sustain driver, which has high power consumption. However, such a circuit configuration has a difficulty for the PDP market requires low cost. To alleviate this problem, a new circuit composition is presented. It integrates input power supply with sustain driver in a single power stack. The input power supply of the proposed circuit has a single-stage structure to minimize power conversion loss, and it directly supplies power to the sustain driver so as to reduce the system size and cost.

  • In the electric railway systems, it is very important that we should design the system configuration, location and power capacity of substation. This paper presents the results of system configuration and system design of the DC traction power supply for the test line of Light Rail Vehicle. The voltage fluctuation of train and the power capacity of substation are calculated by computer simulation using the nodal equation, K.C.L/K.V.L, Ohm's law and superposition theory.

  • Recently, the PDP is the most remarkable media for a next generation display device. But the PDP is a high power consumption device. It is to required a high efficiency power supply. We reported the experimental result the high efficiency PDP power supply for 550w class. The proposed converter is quasi-resonant flyback topology, it achieves soft-switching in the single-switch flyback converter. As a result, we realize to very high efficiency power supply for PDP of 95% at 400v dc input and 550Watt output.

  • High accuracy and stability digital controlled power supply for magnet is developed at PLS. This power supply has three sections. The first section is digital controller including DSP&FPGA and precision ADC, the second section consists of IGBT driver and four quad IGBT switch, and the third section is LC output filter section. AC input voltage of power supply is 3-phase 21V, output current is 0 ${\sim}$ 150 A dc. Switching frequency of four quad IGBT switch is 25 kHz. The output current of power supply has very high accuracy of 100 A step resolution at full range and the stability of +/- 1.5 ppm for short term and +/- 5 ppm for long term. This paper describes characteristics of filter and output current performance improvement after LC output filter at four quad digital power supplies.

  • The current paper presents the design and implementation of a low-profile dc-to-dc converter developed as a power supply for the sustain driving: circuit inside large-area wall-mount ac PDP application systems. Details on the design and implementation of a 500 W prototype dc-to-dc converter, miniaturized within a 230 mm$\times$ 130 mm area with a thickness of 25 mm while still achieving a 95 $\%$ conversion efficiency, are presented to demonstrate the feasibility and application potentials of the proposed low-profile dc -to-dc converters.

  • 본 논문에서는 UPS 기능을 갖는 단상 태양광 발전 시스템을 제안하였다. 제안하는 시스템은 태양광 어레이 (photovoltaic array)에서 최대전력을 얻기 위해 MPPT (maximum power point tracking)를 수행하는 컨버터, 계통전원 상태나 태양광 발전량에 상관없이 부하에 정현파 전압을 공급하는 인버터, 태양광 어레이에서 발전된 잉여전력을 계통으로 전달하거나 부하에 필요한 전력을 dc bus로 공급하는 인버터, 정전시 dc bus에 전력을 공급하는 양방향 컨버터 (bidirectional converter)로 구성된다. 제안하는 시스템은 발전된 전력을 계통으로 전달할 뿐만 아니라, UPS (uninterruptible power supply)기능도 수행하는 시스템으로 계통전압이 불안정하거나 정전시에도 부하에 안정적이고 깨끗한 전압을 항상 공급할 수 있다. 각각의 인버터, 컨버터, 및 양방향 컨버터는 dc bus를 공유하며, dc bus의 전압에 따라 동작상태가 결정이 된다. dc bus중심의 제어는 dc bus전압을 안정적으로 유지시키며, 부하에 걸리는 전압의 변동을 최소로 하고 시스템의 디자인 및 제어를 단순화한다. 모든 알고리즘과 제어기를 하나의 마이크로 컨트롤러로 구현하였고 제안된 시스템의 우수성을 실험을 통해 검증하였다.

  • The paper proposes a new multilevel variable output voltage AC/DC Converter for power supply of power amplifiers used in underwater acoustic sensors. The proposed multilevel variable output voltage AC/DC Converter is composed of two parts. One as the input section is the high efficiency phase-shifted PWM full bridge DC-DC converter to get multiport power sources. The other as the output section is composed of two flying-capacitor 3-level DC-DC converters and a diode bridge circuit to get fast-response and multilevel variable output voltage for an envelope amplifier. Also the paper suggests the detailed circuit topology and design guideline of multilevel variable output voltage AC/DC converter. It also proposes the power balanced control method between 3-level converters and the voltage balanced algorithm for flying capacitors. Its characteristics should be verified by the detailed simulation results. It is anticipated that the proposed converter will be used very well for power amplifiers used in underwater acoustic sensors.
