A study was conducted to investigate the effect of water temperature and photoperiod on the oxygen consumption of the fasting juvenile Pacific cod Gadus macrocephalus (mean body weight 79.9${\pm}$2.0 g) in order to quantify metabolic response of the species under given conditions. The oxygen consumption rate (OCR) of G. macrocephalus was measured under a combination of four different water temperatures (7, 10, 13 and $16^{\circ}C$) and three different photoperiods (24L:0D, 12L:12D and 0L:24D) with an interval of 5 minutes over a 24-hour period using a closed recirculating respirometer. Three replicates were set up in each treatment. OCRs increased with increased water temperatures under all photoperiod conditions (P<0.001). Mean OCRs at 7, 10, 13 and 16oC ranged from 793.7~1108.4, 1145.7~1570.3, 1352.8~1742.5 and 1458.2~1818.6 mg $O_2$$kg^{-1}$$h^{-1}$, respectively. Under all water temperature conditions except $7^{\circ}C$ (P<0.001), mean OCRs of G. macrocephalus were the highest in continuous light (24L:0D) followed by 12L:12D and 0L:24D photoperiods. Mean OCRs of fish exposed to the 12L:12D photoperiod were significantly higher during the light phase than during the dark phase under all temperature conditions (P<0.001). $Q_{10}$ values ranged from 3.19~5.13 between 7 and $10^{\circ}C$, 1.41~1.74 between 10 and $13^{\circ}C$ and 1.15~1.35 between 13 and $16^{\circ}C$, respectively. Based on overall results, water temperature, photoperiod and their combinations exerted a significant influence on the metabolic rate of juvenile cod. This study provides empirical data for estimating the amount of oxygen demand and managing the culture of cod under the given water temperatures and photoperiods.
To estimate the biomass, net production and nutrient distribution of Pinus Koraiensis and Quercus mongolica stand, experimental plots located in Kwangju of Kyonggi-do were selected. Ten sample trees selected account of DBH distribution were felled and the diagram of oven-dry weight distrubution of leaves, branches and stems for each 1m segment was constructed. The logarithmic regression equations between dry weight of each component and the variable of $(DBH)^2$ H obtained. The standing crops were estimated to be as much as 152.07 and 156.02 tons of dry matter per hectare in P. koraiensis and Q. mongolica stand respectively. The net production was estimated as 24.66 and 20.35t/ha$\cdot$yr and the net assimilation rate was 1.90 and 3.42kg/kg$\cdot$yr in same order. Particulary large proportions of nitrogen. calcium and magnesium were found in soil of P. koraiensis stand, phosphours and potassium in overstory of it. At Q. mongolica stand, large proportions of nitrogen. phosphorus. potassium and magnesium were found in soil and calcium in overstory. The amounts of litter fall was 4.013t/ha$\cdot$8 months in P. koraiensis stand and 3.490t/ha$\cdot$8 months in Q. mongolica stand.

This study was carried out to reveal characteristics of long-term runoff by using HYCYMODEL in a small forested watershed. From May to September in 1998 and in 1999, the fitness of HYCYMODEL and runoff characteristics were estimated by HYCYMODEL using rainfall and discharge at the experimental watershed. The function of stage and discharge in the experimental watershed was determined as following equation $Q=11.148H^{2.5867}$($R^2=0.9956$). From May to September in 1998 and in 1999, the runoff rates were 57.7% in 1998 and 87.1% in 1999 at the experimental watershed. The discharge was assumed to be increased because of rainfall intensity difference and thinning. By applicability test, the HYCYMODEL showed good estimation of runoff by optimized fifteen parameters. Comparing runoff characteristics before and after thinning by calculating through HYCYMODEL, direct runoff and base runoff increased 4%, 7%, respectively as evapotranspiration decreased 11%. Parameters $D_{50}$ and $K_h$, which were related to the direct run, and a parameter $K_u$, which was related to the baseflow, were assumed to indicate that forest was changed by the effect of thinning and weathering process of bed rock.
Xanthine Oxidase is an enzyme, which oxidizes hypoxanthine to xanthine, and xanthine to uric acid. It is widely distributed throughout various organsincluding the liver, gut, lung, kidney, heart, brain and plasma. It is involved in gout pathogenesis. In this study, we have performed Comparative Molecular Field Analysis (CoMSIA) on a series of 2-(indol-5-yl) thiazole derivatives as xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors to identify the structural variations with their inhibitory activities. Ligand based CoMSIA models were generated based on atom-by-atom matching alignment. In atom-by-atom matching, the bioactive conformation of highly active molecule 11 was generated using systematic search. Compounds were aligned using the bioactive conformation and it is used for model generation. Different CoMSIA models were generated using different alignments and the best model yielded across-validated $q^2$ of 0.698 with five components and non-cross-validated correlation coefficient ($r^2$) of 0.992 with Fisher value as 236.431, and an estimated standard error of 0.068. The predictive ability of the best CoMSIA models was found to be $r{^2}_{pred}$ 0.653. The study revealed the important structural features required for the biological activity of the inhibitors and could provide useful for the designing of novel and potent drugs for the inhibition of Xanthine oxidase.

Twenty nine children with autism and thirty children with mental retardation were examined for association between autism and chromosomal disorders including fragile X. The peripheral blood was cultured in Medium 199 with methotrexate and without methorexate for 70 hours. Thirty metaphase cells in each case were karyotyped in all samples. Chromosomal abnormalities were found in 11 cases(37.9%) of autistic disorder and 10 cases (33.3%) of mental retardation, but in none of fragile(X)(q27.3) from all cases. Chromosomal abnormalities were present on group A, C, D and X in autistic disorder and on group A, B, C, D, E and X in mental retardation. No specific chromosomal region was found in both autistic disorder and mental retardation. Types of chromosomal disorders were only fragile and/or gap but no numerical abnormality was present in all cases. Number of cells which revealed fragile sites were 31 cells(3.6%) out of 870 cells in autistic disorder and 29 cells(3.2%) out of 900 cells in mental retardation Number of cells which revealed gaps were 43 cells(4.9%) out of 870 cells in autistic disorder and 35 cells(3.9%) out of 900 cells in mental retardation. Autistic disorder may not be directly correlated with fragile X but with nonspecific chromosomal breakages from these data.
Monopolar spindle 1 (Mps1) is an attractive cancer target due to its high expression levels in a wide range of cancer cells. Mps1 is a dual specificity kinase. It plays an essential role in mitosis. The high expression od Mps1 was observed in various grades of breast cancers. In the current study, we have developed a CoMFA model of pyridazine derivatives as Mps1 kinase inhibitors. The developed CoMFA model ($q^2=0.797$; ONC=6; $r^2=0.992$) exhibited a good predictive ability. The model was then validated by Leave out five, progressive sampling and bootstrapping and found to be robust. The analysis of the CoMFA contour maps depicted favorable and unfavorable regions to enhance the activity. Bulky positive substitution at $R^3$ position and Negative substitution in $R^1$ position is favored could increase the activity. In contrast, bulky substitution in $R^1$ position is not favored. Our results can be used in designing a potent Mps1 (TTK) inhibitor.

In this study, the microwave dielectric properties of nano spheroidization glass powders added $Ba(Zn_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics prepared by solid state reaction have been investigated. Adding $(Ba_{0.4}Ca_{0.6})SiO_3$ nano spheroidization glass powders could effectively promote the densification even in the case of decreasing the sintering temperature. When the glass frit is 0.3 wt% and sintering is carried out at a temperature of $1500^{\circ}C$ for 6 hr, a temperature stable microwave dielectric ceramic could be obtained, which has a dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$) of 30.2, a quality factor ($Q{\times}f_0$) of 124,000 GHz and a temperature coefficient of resonance frequency (${\tau}_f$) of $2ppm/^{\circ}C$.
Objective : It has long been known about the osteogenic effect of CPC-HAS on bone tissues. However, it has not been determined the effect of CPC-HAS on cancer cells. The purpose of this study is to screen the CPC-HAS mediated differentially expressed genes in cancer cells such as HepG2 hepatoma cells. Oligonucleotide microarray and proteomics approaches were employed to screen the differential expression genes. Methods : CPC-HAS was prepared by boiling and stored at $-70^{\circ}C$ until use. Cells were treated with various concentrations of CPC-HAS (0.1, 0.5, 1.5, 10, 20mg/ml) for 24 h. Cell toxicity was tested by MTT assay. To screen the differentially expressed genes in cancer cells, cells were treated with 1.5mg/ml of CPC-HAS. For oligonucleotide microarray assay, total RNA was used for gene expression analysis using oligonucleotide Genechip(Human genome Ul33 Plus 2.0., Affimatrix Co.). For proteomic analysis, total protein was analyzed by 2D gel electrophoresis and Q-TOF mass spectrometer. Results : It has no cytotoxic effects on both HepG2 cell in all concentrations(0.l, 0.5, 1.5, 10, 20mg/ml). In oligonucleotide microarray assay, the number of more than twofold differentially regulated known genes was 23 with 5 up-regulated and 18 down-regulated genes in HepG2 cells. In proteomic analysis, three spots were identified by 2D-gel electrophoresis and Q-TOF analysis. Two down-regulated proteins were aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 and enolase 1, and up-regulated protein was fatty acid binding protein 1 by 1.5mg/ml of CPC-HAS. Discussion : This study showed the screening of CPC-HAS mediated differentially regulated genes using combined approaches of oligonucleotide microarray and proteomic analysis. The screened genes will be used for the better understanding of the therapeutic effects of CPC-HAS on cancer fields.
