  • In KORDI (Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute), the KOSC (Korea Ocean Satellite Center) construction project is being prepared for acquisition, processing and distribution of sensor data via L-band from GOCI (Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) instrument which is loaded on COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite); it will be launched in 2008. Ansan (the headquarter of KORDI) has been selected for the location of KOSC between 5 proposed sites, because it has the best condition to receive radio wave. The data acquisition system is classified into antenna and RF. Antenna is designed to be $\phi$ 9m cassegrain antenna which has 19.35 G/T$(dB/^{\circ}K)$ at 1.67GHz. RF module is divided into LNA (low noise amplifier) and down converter, those are designed to send only horizontal polarization to modem. The existing building is re-designed and arranged for the KOSC operation concept; computing room, board of electricity, data processing room, operation room. Hardware and network facilities have been designed to adapt for efficiency of each functions. The distribution system which is one of the most important systems will be constructed mainly on the internet. and it is also being considered constructing outer data distribution system as a web hosting service for offering received data to user less than an hour.

  • Eu2+ doped polyphosphate NaSr(PO3)3 blue-emitting phosphors were synthesized by the conventional solid state method in a reductive atmosphere. The phase formation of NaSr(PO3)3 phosphors were characterized by using the X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) measurement. The photoluminescence emission and excitation spectra of the NaSr(PO3)3:Eu2+ phosphor, and decay curves were measured. Under the near-UV excitation, the phosphor exhibits a band emission around 420 nm assigned to the 4f65d→f7(8S7/2) transition of Eu2+. The temperature dependent emission spectra and decay curves were measured to elevate the thermal properties of the Eu2+ doped phosphors. The as-prepared NaSr(PO3)3:Eu2+ phosphors show a strong temperature dependent performance, which can serve as a promising temperature sensor.

  • This feasibility study evaluated an optically transparent planar antenna using liquid salt-water as the conducting material. The most significant reason behind using liquid salt-water for transparent antenna applications is its excellent average optical transparency (OTav) (> 95% at a salinity of 40 ppt) compared to other typical solid transparent thin-film electrodes, such as indium tin oxide (ITO:> 73%) or multi-layer films (MLF: > 78%). Each conductive arm of the proposed dipole is constructed from a salt-water layer held between two clear planar acrylic layers (r = 2.61, tan = 0.01, OTav > 90%) (acrylic/salt-water/acrylic; ASA) due to surface tension. To examine the electrical and optical properties of the ASA structure, the surface tension was measured to determine the thickness of the salt-water layer that finalized its sheet resistance and OTav. The average gain and efficiency of the antenna were 1.72 dBi and 74%, respectively, in the operating UHF (Ultra high frequency) band (470-771 MHz). Therefore, the proposed antenna can be a good candidate for applications as a transparent planar antenna using salt-water.

  • In this paper, a novel small-diameter cylindrical post capacitor inserted into an evanescent-mode rectangular waveguide (EMRWG) is proposed for easier tuning. In order to feed the EMRWG, the proposed structure uses a single ridge rectangular waveguide with the same width and height as the waveguide at the input and output ends. The inserted post capacitor are made up a circular groove formed in the center of the lower part of the broad wall of the EMRWG, and a concentric cylindrical post inserted into the upper part. First, the equivalent circuit model for the proposed structure is presented. When the EMRWG and the single ridge waveguide are combined, the joint susceptance and the turns ratio of the ideal transformer are calculated by two simulations using HFSS (3d fullwave simulator, Ansoft Co.) respectively. The susceptance and resonance characteristics of the inserted post were analyzed by using the obtained parameters and the characteristics of the EMRWG. A 2-post filter with a center frequency of 4.5 GHz and a bandwidth of 170 MHz was designed using a WR-90 waveguide, and the simulation results by using the HFSS and CST, equivalent circuit model were in good agreement.

  • In this study, a comparative review was conducted on how to use RGB images to obtain river topographic information, which is one of the most essential data for eco-friendly river management and flood level analysis. In terms of the topographic information of river zone, to obtain the topographic information of flow section is one of the difficult topic, therefore, this study focused on estimating the river topographic information of flow section through RGB images. For this study, the river topography surveying was directly conducted using ADCP and RTK-GPS, and at the same time, and orthomosiac image were created using high-resolution images obtained by drone photography. And then, the existing developed regression equations were applied to the result of channel topography surveying by ADCP and the band values of the RGB images, and the channel bathymetry in the study area was estimated using the regression equation that showed the best predictability. In addition, CCHE2D flow modeling was simulated to perform comparative verification of the topographical informations. The modeling result with the image-based topographical information provided better water depth and current velocity simulation results, when it compared to the directly measured topographical information for which measurement of the sub-section was not performed. It is concluded that river topographic information could be obtained from RGB images, and if additional research was conducted, it could be used as a method of obtaining efficient river topographic information for river management.

  • The core of this study is finding out the efficient band selection or extraction method discovering the optimal spectral bands when applying canonical correlation classifier (CCC) to hyperspectral data. The optimal efficient bands grounded on each separability decision technique are selected using Multispec$^{(C)}$ software developed by Purdue university of USA. Total 6 separability decision techniques are used, which are Divergence, Transformed Divergence, Bhattacharyya, Mean Bhattacharyya, Covariance Bhattacharyya, Noncovariance Bhattacharyya. For feature extraction, PCA transformation and MNF transformation are accomplished by ERDAS Imagine and ENVI software. For the comparison and assessment on the effect of feature selection and feature extraction, land cover classification is performed by CCC. The overall accuracy of CCC using the firstly selected 60 bands is 71.8%, the highest classification accuracy acquired by CCC is 79.0% as the case that executes CCC after appling Noncovariance Bhattacharyya. In conclusion, as a matter of fact, only Noncovariance Bhattacharyya separability decision method was valuable as feature selection algorithm for hyperspectral image classification depended on CCC. The lassification accuracy using other feature selection and extraction algorithms except Divergence rather declined in CCC.

  • The sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, is the major insect pest that transmitted over 100 plant viruses including tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) of tomato plant as virus vector in the world. In this study, cDNA library of whitefly was constructed using Gateway system for selecting target gene in order to control of B. tabaci using virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) vector with RNAi. First of all, when using oligo d(T) rimer, the calculated titer of cDNA library was confirmed with $1.4{\times}10^4$ clones and average insert sizes was confirmed with 1 kb. However, insert size was very big for construction of cDNA. Otherwise, when using attB-N25 random primer and sonication for 6 sec, the calculated titer of cDNA library was confirmed with $1.04{\times}10^5$ clones. But mostly insert band wasn't identified on the electrophoresis, because it seemed that insert size is too small (${\leq}100bp$), also the size of identified insert was somewhat big. Finally, when using oligo d(T) primer and sonication for 1 sec, cDNA insert of whitefly was appropriated for VIGS with 300-600 bp. However, cDNA sequence included a poly A and titer was very low to $5.2{\times}10^2$ clones. It was supposed that heat shock transformation was used instead of electro-transformation. It is considered that when constructing cDNA library for using VIGS vector, (1) random primer should be used for First strand cDNA synthesis in order to remove poly A and (2) sonication for 1 sec should be performed in order to get appropriated insert size and (3) electro-transformation should be performed in order to improve transformation efficiency.

  • The measurements of rubisco parameters are important in photosynthetic studies. In this experiment, we used photometric assay method to detect these major parameters, such as activity, carbamylation and amount of rubisco. The main advantages of this method are very simple and as sensitive as conventional methods which usually produce radioactive waste. In this study, with kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgatis L.) leaves grown at normal $CO_2$ (350ppm) and high $CO_2$ (650 ppm), we investigated the effect of $CO_2$ concentration on activation and carbamylation of rubisco by measuring the rubisco activity, carbamylation rate and amount of rubisco using a dual beam (334nm and 405nm) spectrophotometer, and analyzed the polypeptide profiles of rubisco by SDS-PAGE. When $CO_2$ concentration was raised from 350ppm to 650ppm, all parameters of rubisco were decreased : $41.2{\mu}M/m^2/s and 52.2{\mu}M/m^2/s$ to $27.4{\mu}M/m^2/s and 46.1{\mu}M/m^2/s$ for initial and total rubisco activity, respectively ; from 79% to 58.9% for carbamylation rate ; from $1.94 {\mu}M/m^2$ to 1.58{\mu}M/m^2$ for amount of rubisco. These results suggests that the decrease in rubisco activity at high $CO_2$ was caused by carbamylation. The analysis of the preparation by SDS-PAGE showed two major polypeptides at 50 and 14.5 kD which were identified as the large and the small subunits of rubisco. There were no differences in the intensity compared high $CO_2$ to normal $CO_2$ in both 50 kD and 14.5 kD bands. We also found that these inhibitory effects of $CO_2$ were reversible. When high $CO_2$ was switched to normal $CO_2$, the parameters of rubisco changed were almost the same as normal rubisco parameters. These data provide an evidence that activity of rubisco was recovered by $CO_2$ concentration of 350 ppm.

  • In this study, a planting density-growth-harvest (PGH) chart was developed to easily read the growth and harvest factors such as crop growth rate, relative growth rate, shoot fresh weight, shoot dry weight, harvesting time, marketable rate, and marketable yield of common ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum L.). The plants were grown in a nutrient film technique (NFT) system in a closed-type plant factory using fluorescent lamps with three-band radiation under a light intensity of $140{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and a photoperiod of 12 h. Growth and yield were analyzed under four planting densities ($15{\times}10cm$, $15{\times}15cm$, $15{\times}20cm$, and $15{\times}25cm$). Shoot fresh and dry weights per plant increased at a higher planting density until reached an upper limit and yield per area was also same tendency. Crop growth rate, relative growth rate and lost time were described using quadratic equation. A linear relationship between shoot dry weight and fresh weights was observed. PGH chart was constructed based on the growth data and making equations. For instance, with within row spacing (= 20 cm) and fresh weight per plant at harvest (= 100 g), we can estimate all the growth and harvest factors of common ice plant. The planting density, crop growth rate, relative growth rate, lost time, shoot dry weight per plant, harvesting time, and yield were $33plants/m^2$, $20g{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$, $0.27g{\cdot}g^{-1}{\cdot}d^{-1}$, 22 days, 2.5 g/plant, 26 days after transplanting, and $3.2kg{\cdot}m^{-2}$, respectively. With this chart, we could easily obtain the growth factors such as planting density, crop growth rate, relative growth rate, lost time and the harvest factors such as shoot fresh and dry weights, harvesting time, marketable rate, and marketable yield with at least two parameters, for instance, planting distance and one of harvest factors of plant. PGH charts will be useful tools to estimate the growth and yield of crops and to practical design of a closed-type plant production system.

  • This work proposes a 12b 100MS/s 45nm CMOS four-step pipeline ADC for high-speed digital communication systems requiring high resolution, low power, and small size. The input SHA employs a gate-bootstrapping circuit to sample wide-band input signals with an accuracy of 12 bits or more. The input SHA and MDACs adopt two-stage op-amps with a gain-boosting technique to achieve the required DC gain and high signal swing range. In addition, cascode and Miller frequency-compensation techniques are selectively used for wide bandwidth and stable signal settling. The cascode current mirror minimizes current mismatch by channel length modulation and supply variation. The finger width of current mirrors and amplifiers is laid out in the same size to reduce device mismatch. The proposed supply- and temperature-insensitive current and voltage references are implemented on chip with optional off-chip reference voltages for various system applications. The prototype ADC in a 45nm CMOS demonstrates the measured DNL and INL within 0.88LSB and 1.46LSB, respectively. The ADC shows a maximum SNDR of 61.0dB and a maximum SFDR of 74.9dB at 100MS/s, respectively. The ADC with an active die area of $0.43mm^2$ consumes 29.8mW at 100MS/s and a 1.1V supply.
