  • This study was conducted to determine the difference between satellite cells (porcine) and myoblasts (C2C12) in their differentiation under the influence of 2, 4-thiazolidindion. C2C12 myoblast cells and porcine satellite cells (isolated from 10 d old $Landrace{\times}Duroc$ piglets) were grown to absolute confluency. Post confluent cells (day 0) were further exposed to adipogenic induction medium along with 2, 4-thiazolidindion ($8{\mu}M$) for 2 d. Thereafter, cells were exposed to 2, 4-thiazolidindion alone every 2 d till day 10 and analysed. The control was cultured in differentiation medium without any treatment. Increased (p<0.05) expression of transcriptional factors i.e. C/EBP-${\alpha}$ and PPAR-${\gamma}$ and transition of cells to adipocyte morphology was noticed from 2 d and 4 d onwards in satellite cells (Porcine) and myoblasts (C2C12) respectively. Myogenesis was observed to be suppressed completely in case of satellite cells compared to myoblasts in response to 2, 4-thiazolidindion. Pax-7 (transcriptional factor) appeared as a sole entity to satellite cells only, as it was not identified in case of myoblasts. Although both the cells were converting to adipoblasts, the degree of their conversion was different in response to 2, 4-thiazolidindion. Therefore, the hypothesis that satellite cells contribute various domains to the growing myoblasts appeared obscured and found to be dependent on the proliferative energy/or degree of fusion. However, it revealed satellite cells as currency to myoblasts/muscle.

  • The model experiments were performed in tile circular water tank on the simple cambered and the super-V otter boards attached with the slotted fowler flap at the trailing edge in order to develop more efficient shearing characteristics. The dimension of the model otter boards was varied slightly in the flap chord ratio $0.20\~0.22$ and in the area $432\~426cm^2$ in accordance with the flap angle $30\~50^{\circ}$. The maximum shearing coefficient $C_L=1.78$ and hydrodynamic efficiency $C_L/C_D=4.0$ in the superV type were higher than their efficiencies $C_L=1.75$ and $C_L/C_D=3.7$ in the simple cambered type. As the shearing forces of the otter boards with flap were increased $20\~30\%$ mere than these without flap in spite of increasing the drag and the instability. The effect of flap should be fully investigated for the application.

  • Pose variation is a critical problem in face recognition. Three-dimensional(3D) face recognition techniques have been proposed, as 3D data contains depth information that may allow problems of pose variation to be handled more effectively than with 2D face recognition methods. This paper proposes a pose-normalized 3D face modeling method that translates and rotates any pose angle to a frontal pose using a plane fitting method by Singular Value Decomposition(SVD). First, we reconstruct 3D face data with stereo vision method. Second, nose peak point is estimated by depth information and then the angle of pose is estimated by a facial plane fitting algorithm using four facial features. Next, using the estimated pose angle, the 3D face is translated and rotated to a frontal pose. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we designed 2D and 3D face recognition experiments. The experimental results show that the performance of the normalized 3D face recognition method is superior to that of an un-normalized 3D face recognition method for overcoming the problems of pose variation.

  • Stereoscopic/autostereoscopic systems have been developed in order to express true 3D images, but have never had great success in the practical use. In order to apply 3D display to promising applications such as advertisements and games, we've developed a 42" 2D/3D switchable display. It has characteristics that don't require special glasses for 3D images, use multi-view technology for improving 3D viewing characteristics, and has a 2D/3D switching function to express dynamic 3D contents as well as conventional 2D contents.

  • In the 2D/1D method, a global adjoint CMFD based on the generalized equivalence theory is built to synthesize the 2D radial MOC adjoint and 1D axial NEM adjoint calculation and also to accelerate the iteration convergence of 3D whole-core adjoint transport calculation. Even more important, an advanced yet accurate two-level (TL) CMFD acceleration technique is proposed, in which an equivalent one-group adjoint CMFD is established to accelerate the multi-group adjoint CMFD and then to accelerate the 3D whole-core adjoint transport calculation efficiently. Based on these method, a new code is developed to perform 3D adjoint neutron flux calculation. Then a set of VERA and C5G7 benchmark problems are chosen to verify the capability of the 3D adjoint calculations and the effectiveness of TL CMFD acceleration. The numerical results demonstrate that acceptable accuracy of 2D/1D adjoint calculations and superior acceleration of TL CMFD are achievable.

  • Let ${\mathbb{D}}=\{z{\in}{\mathbb{C}}:{\mid}z{\mid}<1\}$ be the open unit disk in the complex plane $\mathbb{C}$, ${\varphi}$ an analytic self-map of $\mathbb{D}$ and ${\psi}$ an analytic function in $\mathbb{D}$. Let D be the differentiation operator and $W_{{\varphi},{\psi}}$ the weighted composition operator. The boundedness and compactness of the product-type operator $W_{{\varphi},{\psi}}D$ from the weighted Bergman-Orlicz space to the weighted Zygmund space on $\mathbb{D}$ are characterized.

  • Inferring and recognizing 3D objects form a 2D occuluded image has been an important research area of computer vision. The octree model, a hierarchical volume description of 3D objects, may be utilized to generate projected images from arbitrary viewing directions, thereby providing an efficient means of the data base for 3D object recognition. We present a fast algorithm of finding the 4 pairs of feature points to estimate the viewing direction. The method is based on matching the object contour to the reference occuluded shapes of 49 viewing directions. The initially best matched viewing direction is calibrated by searching for the 4 pairs of feature points between the input image and the image projected along the estimated viewing direction. Then the input shape is recognized by matching to the projectd shape. The computational complexity of the proposed method is shown to be O(n$^{2}$) in the worst case, and that of the simple combinatorial method is O(m$^{4}$.n$^{4}$) where m and n denote the number of feature points of the 3D model object and the 2D object respectively.

  • A SiGe HBT MMIC double balaced up-converter has been designed and fabricated for C-band WLAN applications. The up-converter is based on the Gilbert cell mixer with an active baluns for differential inputs of LO and IF signals. The designed up-converter exhibits a conversion gain 12.5dB for a -10 dBm LO power. It also exhibits LO-RF isolation of 19.3dBc, and IF-RF isolation of 23.3 dBc at a 1-dB compression point of -14.2dBm
