Transgenic triploid hybrid between fast-growingtransgenic mud loach (Misgurnus mizolepis) males and cyprinid loach (M. anguillicaudatus) females were generated and their performance on growth, feed conversion ability and reproduction were evaluated. Although the growth accelerations of diploid and triploid transgenic hybrids were not as much as those of original transgenic mud loaches, they still represented persistent growth stimulation ranging 11 to 28 fold when compared to their non-transgenic counterparts, with significantly improved feed conversion efficiency up to 2-fold (compared to non-transgenic hybrid) and 1.5-fold (compared to non-transgenic mud loach) in maximum. The gonad development of diploid hybrids was fertile in histological views regardless of transgenic genotypes but the extent of developmentin hybrid fish were less than mud loach diploids at the same age. On the other hands, very stringent sterility was obtained in both sexes of the triploid hybrid transgenics: ovary and testis from transgenic triploid hybrids were significantly depressed and any notable sign for maturation to ovum or spermatids was not detected. No viable embryo was obtained in a fertilization trial using the suspension prepared from the minced testes of transgenic triploid hybrids. This study may indicate the potential usefulness of triploid hybridization as a mean for reproductive containment of transgenic mud loach.

In this study, imported ornamental goldfish (Oranda and black moor) with high mortality was investigated with histopathological analysis. Fishes showed clinical symptoms characterized by gill necrosis and cumulative mortality ranging from 60% to 90% within a month after import from Thailand and China in 2021. CyHV-2 was detected in gill, kidney, spleen and liver of goldfishes. Histopathological analysis revealed epithelial necrosis, intranuclear inclusion bodies associated with viral symptoms in epithelial cell, macrophage infiltration and vacuolation in secondary lamella. In addition, disseminated granuloma formation was observed in various organs such as kidney, heart and mesenchymal membranes. These lesions refer to coinfections with CyHV-2 and other pathogens that cause chronic inflammation, which leads to mortality. Therefore, early disease monitoring needs to reduce the mortality when ornamental goldfish is imported.
The ichthyofauna and fish community were surveyed at eight stations in the Wangpi stream from July 2007 to Jun 2008. During the survey period 23 species belonging to 9 families were collected. Of them cyprinid fishes comprised 47.8% (11 species), and Gobiidae 13.0% (3 species), Cobitidae 8.7% (2 species), Siluridae 8.7% (2 species) and other 4.2% (1 species). Eight species (34.8%) of observed species were endemic species. The dominant and subdominant species were Zacco koreanus (relative abundance : 31.0%) and Pungtungia herzi (relative abundance : 27.4 %). As the result of analyzing fish community in the surveyed area, the species diversity, evenness and dominant indicated that the community structure was similar between the upper and lower area of Wangpi stream.
The general morphological characteristics of scales on the body surface in Cyprininae fishes can be summarized as follows: 1) The lentic and lotic habitats have no relation to the phase of scales. 2) The scales in the anterior body parts have transverse diameters longer than their longi-tudinal diameters: in the posterior body parts, the opposite holds true. 3) The scales having the largest diameters, both longitudinal and transverse, are the lateral line scales. 4) The position of the focus on each scale move posteriorly as the scale grows. In other words, the forward growth of the scales exceeds the backward. 5) The number of ridges in each scale is in proportion to longitudinal diameter. 6) In Cyprinus, the scales on the middle part of the body surface have more grooves than those on the other parts. All scales on this species commonly show incompleted grooves on the anterior and posterior areas, but the lateral area lacks grooves entirely. 7) In Carassius, there are more completed grooves than incompleted grooves. All grooves are arranged in radial patterns on the scales.
The ichthyofauna and the structure of fish community were surveyed from June to August in 2000 at four stations of the Wondong marsh, Yangsan city in Kyungnam province. During the study period, 24 species belonging to eight families were collected. Cyprinid fish occupied 62.5% (15 species) and cobitid and centrarchid fish 8.3% (each 2 species). According to relative abundance in the whole marsh, Z. platypus (23.2%) was dominant species and S. gracilis majimae (14.2%) was subdominant species. M. salmoides (9.6%), C. auratus (8.3%), P. herzi (8.3%), M. yaluensis (6.5%), M. anguillicaudatus (4.0%), L. macrochirus (3.4%), P. parva (2.8%), R. ocellatus (2.5%), C. brevicauda (2.5%), C. sinensis (2.5%) and O. platycephala (2.2%) were common species and C. carpio, A. rhombeus, H. labeo, S. variegatus wakiyae, S. chankaensis tsuchigae, Z. temmincki, O. bidens, S. asotus, C. herzi, R. brunneus, C. argus were rare specieswhich occupied less than 2.0% in relative abundance. Six species of S. variegatus wakiyae, S. chankaensis tsuchigae, S. gracilis majimae, M. yaluensis, C. herzi and O. platycephala in observed species were known as endemic species. By analyzing of fish community in the surveyed area, the species diversity and evenness of the fishes were high but dominance was low. And the similarity of the fish species among the sites was mid-grade as more than 0.55 in index.

Fish fauna and community structure were surveyed in the Nakdong River, Gumi City, Kyeongpook province from April 2001 to July 2002. During the surveyed Period, 39 species, 32 genera belonging to 10 families were collected. Cyprinid fish occupied 64.1% (25 species) and cobitid fish had 7.7% (3 species). Fourteen species(35.9%) of observed species were known as endemic species. The exotic fish was Micropterus salmoides (2.5%) . The dominant species were Zacco platypus (relative abundance: 36.7%) and Opsariichthys uncirorstris amurensis (22.7%). Carassius aurafus and Microphysogobio rapidus were numerous (4.0${\sim}$4.3%). The rare species comprising less than 0.15% were Acheilognathus koreensis, Aphyocypris chinensis, Iksookimia longicorpus, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Rhinogobius giurinus, Sarcocheilichthys variagatus wakiyae, Silurus asotus astus, and Channa argus. It was found that the population density of carnivorous Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis increased drastically in the mid-reach of the Nakdong river since it had been introduced from the other native rivers in the middle 1990s. Gobiobotia nakdongensis inhabit riffle (water velocity : 0.43${\sim}$0.67 m $s^{-1}$) of which the river bed is mainly sand. This species is considered to be in need of conservation. As the result of analyzing fish community in the surveyed area, the species diversity, evenness and dominant indices were 1.008, 0.663 and 0.196 respectively. The findings showed that the tributary, which the waterside plants were abundant and had various habitats, had a higher species diversity (1.112) than the main river (0.787). Sand mining had been disturbing the river ecosystem of the study stations 3, 11, 13 & 14, and these stations showed a quite low species diversity (0.421 ${\sim}$0.574).
Ichthyological fauna and community structure were surveyed in the Naeseong Stream around the planed Yeongju Dam, Yeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk-do from April 2007 to October 2009, During the survey period, 27 species (25 genera, 10 families) were collected. Cyprinid fish comprised 63.0% (17 species) and cobitid fish comprised 7.4% (2 species). Ten of the 27 species (37.0%) were endemic species. The dominant and subdominant species based on the number of individuals was Zacco platypus (43.2%) and Zacco koreanus (15.8%), respectively. Introduced from the other native rivers and exotic fish were Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis, Leiocassis ussuriensis, and Micropterus salmoides (11.1%). The declining population density of Zacco koreanus and its subdominant status represents a change, since, up until the mid 1990's, it was widely distributed throughout the area and was the dominant species. The distribution area of Zacco koreanus decreased in size; by 2009, it no longer inhabited the lower reaches of the Naeseong Stream. On the other hand, Zacco platypus remained the dominant species throughout the area, except for the upper-reaches of the water-course. Gobiobotia naktongensis inhabited all areas of Naeseong Stream, which mainly has a sandy bottom. Analyses of the fish community revealed species diversity, even-ness and dominant indices were 0.881, 0.615, and 0.230 respectively. These results showed that the main river, in which the water width and flow are abundant and which has various habitats, has a higher species diversity (0.829) than the tributary (0.735).
The skull and superficial cephalis muscles of Coreoleuciscus splendidus Mori was investigated comparatively with other some fishes of the family Cyprinidae to study on the systematic position of this species. Coreoleuciscs splendidus was unique in the morphology of sphenotic process and the urohyal and this species differ from the true bottom dwellers of the subfamily Gobioninae in the strucutre of cephalic lateral-line canals, the relation of parasphenoids with pterotic and prootic, the morphology of urohyal , basihyal , hypobranchial, and , particulary, the configuration of adductor manibulae complex. With reference to the information so far obtained , the taxonomic position of the present species was discussed in the Cyprinidae.
In freshwater ecosystems, the types of fish parasites are diverse and routes of infection are complicated because they maintain the life cycle in a variety of host animals, The present study investigated the infestation characteristics of parasites occurring in abdominal cavity of Zacco platypus in Seom River from February to October 2007. At the same time, four streams (Gam Stream, Daepo Stream, Yangsan Stream, and Yulha Stream) were also surveyed for the reference of fish infection. Aquatic insects and shellfish predominated benthic macroinvertebrate assemblages by 90.4% and 7.7% of relative abundance, respectively. Aquatic insects were composed mostly of Ephemeroptera (46.8%) and Trichoptera (29.8%), and shellfish was Gastropods. Freshwater fish was most abundant Cyprinid and Z. platypus by 85.7% and 48.8%, respectively. Among waterfowl, Anas poecilorhyncha and Egretta garzetta were dominant in August. Fish parasites observed in the abdominal cavity of Z. platypus was classified as Ligula intestinalis, belonging to Phylum Platyhelminthes Cestoda Pseudophyllidae. L. intestinalis was observed from Z. platypus in October, as the number of one individual in the Seom River and fifteen individuals in the Yangsan Stream. Infection rate of plerocercoid ranged 1.4~15.8%. We discussed the relationship between the life cycle of the parasite and the host, and hope our results to be useful for understanding the ecology of the fish abdominal parasites in Korean river ecosystem.
Food and feeding habits of Labeobarbus intermedius were studied from the newly constructed Ribb Reservoir, Ethiopia during the dry (December-March) season and wet season (June-August) of 2021. The objective of the study was to determine the diet composition, seasonal variation, and ontogenetic dietary shift in the diets of the dominant cyprinid fish in Ribb Reservoir. In this study, frequency of occurrence and volumetric analysis methods were used to present the results. From a total of 203 fish samples, 132 (65%) guts contained food items. Macrophytes (29.4%), phytoplankton (27.2%), detritus (14.8%), and insects (13.6%) were the major food items in the diets volumetrically. During the dry season, L. intermedius was mainly dependent on phytoplankton (58.2%), insects (15.2%), and zooplankton (13.7%) volumetrically. Whereas, macrophytes (50.3%) and detritus (23.3%) were the dominant food items in the wet season. The frequency occurrence and volumetric contribution of the diets of L. intermedius varied significantly (χ2 test, p < 0.05) between seasons. Schoener's diet overlap index revealed a slight ontogenetic dietary shift in the diets of L. intermedius. While insects, nematodes, and zooplankton were the main diets of small-sized L. intermedius, macrophytes and detritus were ingested by large-sized L. intermedius. Generally, L. intermedius fed both plant and animal-origin food items and is considered an omnivorous feeder in Ribb Reservoir.
