  • Acoustic holography makes it possible to reconstruct the acoustic field based on the measurement of the pressure distribution on the hologram surface. Because of the merit that one can obtain an entire three-dimensional wave field from the data recorded on a two-dimensional surface, the holographic method has been widely studied. Being an experimental method, holography has an unavoidable error which is generate by sampling in space and frequency domain and finite aperture size. Its magnitude is dependent on the space and frequency domain and finite aperture size. Its magnitude is dependent on the shape of hologram surface, acoustic holography may be classified into four types of holography : rectangular type planeholography, circular type plane holography, cylindrical holography and spherical holography. In this paper, four types of holography are studied by modal summation method. Numerical simulation is performed using a monopole source with varying parameters to find out effects to the estimation error in each holography. Experiments of circular type plane holography and cylindrical holography explain strong relation between the shape of hologram surface and the acoustic field.

  • As an experimental technique to analyze the far-field characteristics of underwater cylindrical array sensors, cylindrical acoustic holography is studied. Inside an laboratory water tank, far-field directivity patterns as well as near-field source images are reconstructed from the measured hologram by hydrophone array. Approximate equation for far-field directivity estimation is derived based on stationary phase method. The simulation and experiment show well usefulness of the proposed method in application of underwater array sensors.

  • The prediction of sound pressure using acoustic holography has been recognized as a useful tool for the visualization of sound field. Cylindrical acoustic holography amongst acoustic holographic methods planar, spherical, and cylindrical ones-has a wide range of application since its rather simple construction and easy implementation for the sources. To utilize the propery of cylindrical holographic method, estimation errors associated with holographic parameters such as aperture size and sampling space must be envisaged. In this these errors have been studied by numerical simulation and the relation between the errors and the spectrum in wavenumber domain is described. The results are also confirmed by simple experiments.

  • In this presentation, a power-based spatial filtering procedure with application to spherical acoustical holography is presented. Planar and cylindrical holography are the most widely used amongst the various nearfield acoustical holography techniques. However, when the geometry of a source is similar to a sphere. spherical holography may yield better results than other types of holography since there are no errors due to truncation of the sound field in the spherical case. • Induction motors are used in many areas to transform electrical energy to mechanical energy. In the design of an induction motor, not only energy efficiency but also noise becomes an important factor. To effectively address the noise problem, it will be convenient if one can see where and how noise is generated and propagated. In this study sound radiation by an induction motor is visualized using cylindrical acoustic holography. To minimize the bias error by window effect Minimum Error Window(MEW) is used. Its performance is verified by numerical simulations. Based on these theoretical understanding, sound pressure measurement with an induction motor are performed. Not only sound radiation are visualized but sound pressure level and sound power level are also estimated. Results show that the main source is located at nearly bottom part of the motor and the total sound pressure level is 49dB, which satisfies the guideline value suggested by the KS C 4202.

  • In this article, spatial filtering procedures with application to spherical acoustical holography are discussed. Planar and cylindrical holography are the most widely used amongst the various nearfield acoustical holography techniques. However, when the geometry of a source is similar to a sphere, spherical holography may yield better results than other types of holography since there are no errors due to truncation of the sound field in the spherical case. Spatial filtering affects the accuracy of spherical acoustical holography critically, especially in the case of backward projection. Thus spatial filtering is essential for successful application of spherical holography. In the present work, various filtering methods were evaluated in simulations made using sound pressure fields of various types and with different levels of random spatial noise. It was found that a procedure based on eliminating spherical harmonic coefficients that contribute insignificantly to the total sound power of the source gave the best results on average of the different procedures considered here. Spherical holography procedures were also verified experimentally. Reliable results were obtained using the power filtering algorithm. Thus it was concluded that spherical holography combined with power filtering may prove to be a useful tool for noise source identification.

  • This paper discusses a coherence-gated three-dimensional imaging system based on photorefractive holography, which was applied to imaging through turbid media with a view to developing biomedical instrumentation. A rapid response photorefractive device doped with 2,4,7-trinitro-9-fluorenylidene malononitrile was used to generate the hologram grating. The estimated depth resolution was $20{\mu}m$, which corresponds to the coherence length of the light source. In this coherence imaging system, tomographic imaging of a 3-dimensional object composed of a $50{\mu}m$ thick cylindrical layer was achieved. The proposed coherence imaging system using an organic photorefractive material can be used as an optical tomography system for biological applications.

  • This paper deals with the ESM(equivalent source method) with the continuation of acoustic near-field for NAH(near-field acoustic holography) to overcome the finite measurement aperture effect and reconstruct the normal velocity on an arbitrarily shaped structure surface. The continuation method is an extension of the measured sound field into a region outside and is based on the Green's function relating acoustic quantities on the two conformal surfaces. This algorithm is not limited to planar surfaces and can be applied to arbitrarily shaped surfaces. The ESM is an alternative approach of BEM-based NAH for the reconstruction on a general structure. In ESM the acoustic field is represented by a set of point sources located over a surface that is close to the structure surface. The simulation results of this study shows that the reconstruction error of particle velocity on the source surface is 11% and 16% for planar and cylindrical sources separately.

  • In order to investigate the radiation of sound from the King Song-Duk bell, we measured the sound pressure around the bell at every 30$^{\circ}$ using a microphone line array which was composed of 30 microphones separated by 15cm;total number of measurement point was 360. The sound field was estimated by using cylindrical acoustic holography. The spectrum of measured sound pressure demonstrates that it is almost like white noise in the very beginning, but in 10 seconds two close frequency components(64.06Hz, 64.38Hz) remain and make a famous beating. This beating sound is often believed to make unique sound of the King Song-Duk bell. The mode shapes of that frequency components are the same except that one is rotated by 45$^{\circ}$ from the other. This phenomenon occurs at the other pairs of components are the same except ones in very high frequency range where the mode shapes are rather complex.
