  • This paper aims to elicit user-defined hand gestures for the small cylindrical displays with flexible displays which has not emerged as a product yet. For this, we first defined the size and functions of a small cylindrical display, and elicited the tasks for operating its functions. Henceforward we implemented the experiment environment which is similar to real cylindrical display usage environment by developing both of a virtual cylindrical display interface and a physical object for operating the virtual cylindrical display. And we showed the results of each task in the virtual cylindrical display to the participants so they could define the hand gestures which are suitable for each task in their opinion. We selected the representative gestures for each task by choosing the gestures of the largest group in each task, and we also calculated agreement scores for each task. Finally we observed mental model of the participants which was applied for eliciting the gestures, based on analyzing the gestures and interview results from the participants.

  • We propose a novel active fiber design for selectively generating cylindrical vector beams (CVBs) or cylindrical vector modes (CVMs) which can be applied to conventional fiber lasers. A fiber is designed to have a ring-shaped core refractive index profile which can lead to the best overlap between the active dopant distribution profile and the lowest-order CVM (LCVM) field profile. Therefore, the overlap factor (OVF) of the LCVM becomes even higher than that of the fundamental mode. We emphasize that this condition cannot be satisfied by a conventional step-index core fiber (SICF) but by the ring-doped core fiber (RDCF). Because the lasing threshold is inversely proportional to the OVF, the LCVM can predominantly be stimulated even without going through special procedures to impose extra loss mechanisms to the fundamental mode. We numerically verify that the OVF of the LCVM with the doped ions can significantly exceed that of the fundamental mode if the proposed fiber design is applied. In addition, an RDCF of the proposed fiber design can also operate in a regime containing no higher-order modes besides the LCVM, so that it can selectively and efficiently generate the LCVM without being disrupted by the parasitic lasing of the higher-order modes. We highlight that an optimized RDCF can lead to a >30 % higher OVF ratio than a SICF having the same doped area. The proposed model is expected to be useful for enhancing the efficiency of generating CVBs in an all-fiber format.

  • We studied a low density 8CB liquid crystal-hydrophobic aerosil dispersions imbedded in submicron-size cylindrical pores. The nanosize spherical aerosil particles are adsorbed at the pore wall and hinder the planar anchoring. The adsorption is temperature dependent, and an axial to radial molecular configuration transition occurs within the cylindrical pores.

  • Extended unbalanced magnetron sputtering system based on the cylindrical magnetron with a rotating cathode was developed. The unbalanced configuration of magnetic field was realized by means of additional lines of permanent magnets, placed along both sides of a 89 mm outer diameter and 600 mm long cylindrical cathode. The performance of the unbalanced magnetron was assessed in terms of the ion current density and the ion-to-atom ratio incident at the substrate. Furthermore, the paper presents the comparison of the internal plasma parameters, such as the electron temperature, electron density, plasma and floating potentials, measured by a Langmuir probe in various positions from the cathode, for conventional and unbalanced constructions of the cylindrical magnetron. The plasma density and ion current density are about 3-5 times higher than those of conventional one, in the unbalanced magnetron in a 0.24 Pa Ar atmosphere with a DC cathode power of 3 kW.

  • A microlens has been fabricated by various methods such as a thermal reflow, hot embossing, diamond milling, etc. However, these methods require a relatively complex process to control the microlens shape. In this work, we report on a simple and cost-effective method to fabricate a cylindrical microlens (CML), which can diffuse light widely. We have employed a slot-die head with the dual plate (a meniscus guide with a protruded μ-tip and a shim with a slit channel) for coating of a narrow stripe using poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). We have shown that the higher the coating gap, the lower the maximum coating speed, which causes an increase in the stripe width and thickness. The coated PMMA stripe has the concave shape. To make it in the shape of a convex microlens, we have applied the thermal reflow method. When the stripe thickness is small, however, its effect is negligible. To increase the stripe thickness, we have increased the number of repeated coating. With this scheme, we have fabricated the CML with the width of 223 ㎛ and the thickness of 7.3 ㎛. Finally, we have demonstrated experimentally that the CML can diffuse light widely, a feature demanded for light extraction efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and suppression of moiré patterns in displays.

  • ITO(indium tin oxide) that is both conductive in electricity and transparent to the visible ray is called transparent conducting thin film. Nowaday, according to the development of flat panel display such as LCD(Liquid Crystal display, EL(electolumine- scence display), PDP(plasma display panel), ECD(electrocromic display), the higher quality in the low temperature process has been asked to reduce the production cost and to have a good uniformity on a large substrate. In this study, we prepared indium tin oxide(ITO) by a cylindrical DC magnetron sputtering with Indium-tin (9:1) alloy target instead of indium-tin oxide target. To reduce the defact in ITO, the effect on ITO by varing the magnetic field intensity and the applied voltage ares studied. the resistivity of the film deposited in oxygen partial pressure of 5% and substrate temperature of 140$^{\circ}C$. is 1.6${\times}$10$\^$-1/$\Omega$$.$cm with 85% optical transmission in viaible ray.

  • The performance of the DRAM is strongly dependent on the purity and surface roughness of the TIT (TiN/Insulator/ TiN) capacitor electrodes. Hence, in the present study, we evaluate the effects of organic contamination and change of surface roughness on the cylindrical TIT capacitor electrodes during the wet cleaning process by various analytical techniques such as TDMS, AFM, XRD and V-SEM. Once the sacrificial oxide and PR (Photo Resist) are removed by HF, the organic contamination and surface oxide films on the bottom Ti/TiN electrode become visible. With prolonged HF process, the surface roughness of the electrode is increased, whereas the amount of oxidized Ti/TiN is reduced due to the HF chemicals. In the 80nm DRAM device fabrication, the organic contamination of the cylindrical TIT capacitor may cause defects like SBD (Storage node Bridge Defect). The SBD fail bit portion is increased as the surface roughness is increased by HF chemicals reactions.

  • In this paper, an optimization design method of a diffuser using Bernoulli's theorem was reviewed. The aspect ratio of the cylindrical diffuser chamber and the diameter ratio of the air inlet and outlet were used as design parameters. For the optimal design of the cylindrical diffuser chamber, the air flow inside the chamber was simulated using ANSYS while changing the aspect ratio of the chamber. In order to confirm the simulation results, the diffuser manufactured using the laser processing machine was measured. Through ANSYS simulation and measurement, it was found that the optimal design condition was when the aspect ratio (chamber height/radius) of the diffuser chamber was 1/2 and the diameter ratio of the air inlet and outlet was also 1/2.

  • The screen printing method is much used in the flat panel display field including the LCD, PDP, FED, organic EL, and etc. for forming the high precision micro-pattern. Also A number of studies of screen printing method has been conducted as the method for the cost down through the improvement of productivity. Because of being the dot printing method of the cylindrical shape not being the line printing method like the existing PDP barrier rib and phosphor, the pillar arrays using the screen printing method is deposited in the hemispherical type not being cylindrical shape in the existing printing process conditions. In this paper, the parameters were set on the screen printing device in order to deposit the cross-sectional shape with the cone or trapezoid shape of the pillar in depositing the pillars used the screen printing device for vacuum glazing. The cross-sectional shape slope of the pillar according to the parameters was measured. And analysis the effect of the screen printing process conditions on the cross-sectional shape slope of pillars based upon the result of being measured. The processing conditions were drawn to minimize the cross-sectional shape slope of pillar.
