  • Granular bed filters are widely used to remove particulate matter in flue gas and are filled with various shapes of packing material. The packing material plays an important role in determining the overall collection performance, such as pressure drop and collection efficiency. The pressure drop of a granular bed filter has been calculated using the Ergun equation, while the collection efficiency has been predicted using the log-penetration equation based on the single sphere theory. However, a prediction equation of collection efficiency for a granular bed filter filled with non-spherical packing materials has not been suggested yet. Therefore, in this study, three different shapes of packing materials (sphere, cylinder, and irregular) were prepared to propose a prediction equation. The pressure drop and collection efficiency in a granular bed filter filled with each shape of packing material were measured experimentally and compared with theoretically predicted values. We found that experimentally measured pressure drops matched well with values theoretically predicted using the Ergun equation considering the shape factor. However, experimental collection efficiencies were higher than theoretical ones predicted by the log-penetration equation using the single sphere theory. We modified the log-penetration equation by employing a shape factor and found a good relationship between experimental and theoretical collection efficiencies.

  • The quasi-steady approaches to simulate the wind induced vibrations of inclined cables, especially on the rain-wind induced vibration, have been tried by many researchers. However, the steady wind force coefficients used in those methods include only the effects of water rivulet, but not the axial flow effects. The problem is the direct application of the conventional techniques to the inclined cable aerodynamics. Therefore, in this study, the method to implement the axial flow effects in the quasi-steady theory is considered and its applicability to the inclined cable aerodynamics is investigated. Then, it becomes clear that the perforated splitter plate in the wake of non-yawed circular cylinder can include the effects of axial flow in the steady wind force coefficients for inclined cables to a certain extent. Using the lateral force coefficients measured in this study, the quasi-steady theory may explain the wind induced instabilities of the inclined cables only in the relatively high reduced wind velocity region. When the Scruton number is less than around 40, the high speed vortex-induced vibration occurs around the onset wind velocity region of the galloping, and then, the quasi-steady approach cannot be applied for estimating the response of wind-induced vibration of inclined cable.

  • Symbolism found in a certain object inherits characteristics from the culture that contains the objects. The purpose of this study was investigate the formative beauty of Korean trousers twisted the pieces together based on the way of Korean thinks and the Topology. The shape is formed by cutting from the fabric. From the perspective of semiology, the fabric and the pattern shape correspond to ground and figure. Ground and figure are identical with the principle of the whole and the part, which is the same in Korea, China, and the West. But In Korea, the 3-dimensional garment is made by adding a twist. This is very important and defines the difference in the way of thinking and topology. Korean trousers consist of three parts : Hury, Marupok, and Sapok. The small Sapok can be made by removing the Marupok and large Sapok (figure) from the fabric (ground) when making Korean trousers. A Mobius strip is made when the large Sapok is adjoined with the small Sapok by reversing the small Sapok, making a 180$^{\circ}$twist and then stitching together. The theory of Mobius strip can be applied in Joining Bajiburi. thus when the trousers are completed the Klein's bottle is seen because of the 2 existing Mobius strop. The theory of Mobius strip can be applied in Joining Bajiburi, thus when the trousers are completed the Klein's bottle is seen because of the 2 existing Mobius strip. Hury is cylinder while the small and large Sapok make up the Mobius strip. As a result, Mobius strip, Kleins'bottle, protective plan can be applied in cutting Hanbok used in the countryside, so I have come to see that the traditional Korean way of thinking is closely related to the theory of topological.

  • The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of the p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity using the constitutive equation for work-hardening materials, and the associated flow rule. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the circular plate with uniformly distributed load. Those results are compared with the theoretical solutions and the numerical solutions of ADINA

  • A method is described to obtain the first order force and second order steady force on the fixed two dimensional submerged or semisubmerged cylinders at infinite depth of water due to regular waves. The first order diffraction wave velocity potential which describes the flow diffracted by a body is obtained numerically using source distribution method on the mean wetted surface. And a technique to remove the irregular frequency phenomena of the source distribution method is also applied. The second order steady force is calculates by means of direct integration of the pressures on the body as derived from the first order velocity potential and is also computed by means of reflection wave height derives from momentum conservation theory. The results are compared with those of published works, and show good agreement.

  • Prediction methods for cavitation noise are presented. At first, direct numerical simulation of cavitating flow noise has been performed, and acoustic analogy equation based on the cavitation noise modeling is derived. For the direct numerical simulation, a density based homogenous equilibrium model is employed to simulate cavitating two-phase flow and the governing equations are solved with high-order numerical schemes to resolve cavitation noise. The compressible Navier-Stokes equations for mixture fluids are discretized with a sixth-order central compact scheme, and the steep gradient of flow variables and supersonic regions are treated with the selective spatial filtering technique. The direct simulation of cavitating flow noise is performed for a 2D circular cylinder at cavitation number 0.7 and 1. The far-field noise is also predicted with the derived analogy equation. Noise spectrum predicted with the equation is well compared with the result of direct numerical simulation and also agree well with the theory.

  • Design of Reverse Stirling Cycle based refrigerator can be predicted by Schmidt theory as a useful tool and by experiment it is found that for practical purposes the power and efficiency predicted by this analysis are about 35% of the actual values. Therefore, appropriate provision is to be made for getting the realistic result with the minimum deviation. The present paper first investigates the suitability of application of Schmidt design analysis for standard ZIF-1002 and PLN-106 Single cylinder Cryogenerator model. As the result is found to be optimistic, the same design procedure is applied for the design of a separate Cryogenerator for generating a cooling effect which is sufficient to produce 7 kg per hour liquid nitrogen using an indigenous condenser of 80% effectiveness. The paper describes all the details of the design methodologies and relevant results are found to be satisfactory.

  • In this study, a cycle simulation program of a Unit-Injection(UI) system was developed to estimate the injection performance of newly designed injection system. A fundamental theory of the simulation program is based on the conservation law of mass. Loss of fuel mass in the system due to leakage, compressibility effect of the liquid fuel and friction loss in the control volume was considered in the algorithm f the program. For the evaluation of the simulation program developed, the experimental result which was offered by the Technical Research Center of Doowon Precision Industry Co. was incorporated. Two main parameters; the maximum pressure in the plunger chamber and total fuel mass(kg) injected into the engine cylinder per cycle, were measured and compared with the simulation results. It was found that the maximum error rate of the simulation result to the experimental output was less than 3% in the rated rotational speed (rpm) range of the plunger cam.

  • In this paper, we establish an $L_p$ analytic Fourier-Feynman transform theory for a class of cylinder functions on an abstract Wiener space. Also we define a convolution product for functions on an abstract Wiener space and then prove that the $L_p$ analytic Fourier-Feyman transform of the convolution product is a product of $L_p$ analytic Fourier-Feyman transforms.
