In this paper, we propose a coarse and fine frequency synchronization method which is suitable for the 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE(Long Term Evolution) FDD(Frequency Division Duplexing) / TDD(Time Division Duplexing) dual mode system. In general, PSS(Primary Synchronization Signal) correlation based estimation method and CP(Cyclic Prefix) correlation based tracking loop are applied for coarse and fine frequency synchronization in 3GPP LTE OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) system, respectively. However, the conventional coarse frequency synchronization method has performance degradation caused by fading channel and squaring loss. Also, the conventional fine frequency synchronization method cannot guarantee stable operation in TDD mode because of signal power difference between uplink and downlink subframe. Therefore, in this paper, we propose enhanced coarse and fine frequency synchronization methods which can estimate more accurately in multi-path fading channel and high speed channel environments and has stable operation for TDD frame structure, respectively. By computer simulation, we show that the proposed methods outperform the conventional methods, and verify that the proposed frequency synchronization method can guarantee stable operation in 3GPP LTE FDD/TDD dual mode downlink receiver.

In a Multi-carrier modulation system, CP (Cyclic prefix) is inserted in the transmit tame in order to eliminate the ISI (Intersymbol Interference) and ICI (Interchannel Interference) caused by delay spread of a received signal, which in rum degrades the throughput of the system. TEQ (Time-domain equalizer) improves the system throughput by shortening the CIR (Channel Impulse Response) time and maintaining the CP length to the minimum regardless of the channel condition. In this paper, a new MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) TEQ algorithm is proposed and its performance is analyzed in order to speed up computing the optimum tap coefficients of the equalizer by employing Newton method.
In this study, we evaluated the anti-melanogenesis effects of Caffeoylserotonin (CaS) in B16 melanoma cells. Treatment with CaS reduced the melanin content and tyrosinase (TYR) activity in B16 melanoma cells in a dose-dependent manner. CaS inhibited the expression of melanogenesis-related proteins, including microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF), TYR, and tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1), but not TRP-2. ${\alpha}$-MSH is known to interact with melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) thus activating adenylyl cyclase and increasing intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) levels. Furthermore, cAMP activates extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 (ERK2) via phosphorylation, which phosphorylates MITF, thereby targeting the transcription factor to proteasomes for degradation. The CaS reduced intracellular cAMP levels to unstimulated levels and activated ERK phosphorylation within 30 min. The ERK inhibitor PD98059 abrogated the suppressive effect of CaS on ${\alpha}$-MSH-induced melanogenesis. Based on this study, the inhibitory effects of CaS on melanogenesis are derived from the downregulation of MITF signaling via the inhibition of intracellular cAMP levels, as well as acceleration of ERK activation.

This paper investigates the effect a guard period (GP) in the form of a cyclic prefix for asynchronous multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems. At first, we analyze the performance of asynchronous MC-CDMA systems with a GP, which results in closed-form bit error rate (BER) performance. Furthermore, it confirms that the frequency diversity of MC-CDMA systems is identical to the path diversity. The analytical approach proposed here is extended to the case without a GP. The derived analytical results show that a GP is required for MC-CDMA systems in order to mitigate not only the effect of intersymbol interference (ISI) and intercarrier interference (ICI) but also the desired signal power degradation. In addition, the accuracy of the proposed analysis is verified by simulations.
SiC particulate reinforced metal matrix composites(MMCs) are emerging as candidate materials for the automobile and aerospace industries due to their significant increase in elastic modulus and strength compared to conventional metallic materials. However, in order to make successful application of MMCs, it is very important to understand micro-failure mechanism under cyclic loading because failure mechanism of MMC is dominated by accumulation of micro-failure due to applied loading. In this study, ultrasonic Lamb wave and acoustic emission(AE) have been used to monitor microscopic damage accumulation under cyclic loading for SiC particulate reinforced metal matrix composite(SiCp/A356). It was found that the change in velocity and attenuation of ultrasonic Lamb wave due to the increase of loading cycles could be characterized by three different stages corresponding to the microscopic fracture processes. The characteristic of AE signal at each stage was analyzed and discussed by comparing with the change of ultrasonic characteristic in MMCs.
Among many kinds of bioaffinity sensors, the avidin-biotin system has been widely used in a variety of biological applications due to the specific and high affinity interaction of the system. In this work, gold nanorods with high surface area were explored as electrodes in order to amplify the signal response from the avidin-biotin interaction which can be further utilized for avidin-biotin biosensors. Electrochemical performance of electrodes modified with nanorods and functionalized with avidin in response to interactions with biotin at various concentrations using $[Fe(CN)_6]^{3-/4-}$ couple as the redox probe were investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). A very low biotin concentration of less than 1 ng/mL could be detected using the electrodes modified with nanorods.

The study for enhancing the data transmission rate of the next generation wireless communication system using MIMO system operating in the frequency selective fading environment is currently actively conducted. Mixed signal from each transmitted antennas are received at antennas. The training signal with orthogonal property is needed to separate the mixed signal and enable to estimate channel and time synchronization. In this paper we introduce several training sequences used in MIMO communication system and proposed the modified WeCAN sequence with good auto-correlation property in interested area. We compared auto-correlation property of each sequence via simulation and compared the performance of sequences in doppler shift and multipath fading channel.
In contrast to the human lutropin receptor (hLHR) and rat LHR (rLHR), very few naturally occurring mutants in other mammalian species have been identified. The present study aimed to delineate the mechanism of signal transduction by three constitutively activating mutants (designated M410T, L469R, and D590Y) and two inactivating mutants (D383N and Y546F) of the eel LHR, known to be naturally occurring in human LHR transmembrane domains. The mutants were constructed and measured cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) accumulation via homogeneous time-resolved fluorescence assays in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO)-K1 cells. The activating mutant cells expressing eel LHR-M410T, L469R, and D590Y exhibited a 4.0-, 19.1-, and 7.8-fold increase in basal cAMP response without agonist treatment, respectively. However, inactivating mutant cells expressing D417N and Y558F did not completely impaired signal transduction. Specifically, signal transduction in the cells expressing activating mutant L469R was not occurred with a further ligand stimulation, showing that the maximal response exhibited approximately 53% of those of wild type receptor. Our results suggested that the constitutively activating mutants of the eel LHR consistently occurred without agonist treatment. These results provide important information of LHR function in fish and regulation with regard to mutations of highly conserved amino acids in glycoprotein hormone receptors.
Potassium channels in human skin fibroblast have been studied as a possible site of Alzheimer disease pathogenesis. Fibroblasts in Alzheimer disease show alterations in signal transduction pathway such as changes in $Ca^{2+}$ homeostasis and/or $Ca^{2+}-activated$ kinases, phosphatidylinositol cascade, protein kinase C activity, cAMP levels and absence of specific $K^+$ channel. However, little is known so far about electrophysiological and pharmacological characteristics of large-conductance $Ca^{2+}$-activated $K^+$ ($BK_{Ca}$) channel in human fibroblast (CRL-1474). In the present study, we found Iberiotoxin- and TEA-sensitive outward rectifying oscillatory current with whole-cell recordings. Single channel analysis showed large conductance $K^{+}$ channels (106 pS of chord conductance at +40 mV in physiological $K^+$ gradient). The 106 pS channels were activated by membrane potential and $[Ca^{2+}]_i$, consistent with the known properties of $BK_{Ca}$ channels. $BK_{Ca}$ channels in CRL-1474 were positively regulated by adenylate cyclase activator ($10{\mu}M$ forskolin), 8-Br-cyclic AMP ($300{\mu}M$) or 8-Br-cyclic GMP ($300{\mu}M$). These results suggest that human skin fibroblasts (CR-1474) have typical $BK_{Ca}$ channel and this channel could be modulated by c-AMP and c-GMP. The electrophysiological characteristics of fibroblasts might be used as the diagnostic clues for Alzheimer disease.

In this paper, we propose the acquisition method of the Cyclic-Prefix CDMA using Good-Autocorrelation-Sequence (GAS-CP-CDMA) system. The sequences for GAS-CP-CDMA are m-sequence and constant amplitude zero autocorrelation code (CAZAC) with good autocorrelation property. The GAS-CP-CDMA system is proposed for interference cancellation in multi-user and -path environment in co-cell. However, the reliable initial acquisition in multi-path fading channel and multi-user system environment is crucial. In this paper, non-coherent power detector and threshold value are used for discriminating signal acquisition. The sequence used for computer simulation is CAZAC. The simulation results show proper threshold value depends on the number of users. Through the computer simulation, we draw setting up method of the optimum threshold value for the GAS-CP-CDMA system.
