  • Recently, instead of technical cyber operations that directly attack the target information system by using cyber attack techniques, social engineering techniques that indirectly invade the system by exploiting the vulnerabilities of persons who manage the system are being watched. Despite this trend, there is a lot of confusion because there is no clear concept about the relationship between cyber operations and social engineering techniques. Therefore, this paper aims at establishing a clear concept of a social engineering cyber operation, helping future researchers in this literature.

  • In this paper, we propose military symbols for cyber operations to understand the situation in cyberspace intuitively. Currently, standardized military symbols are mainly for kinetic operations, and they do not consider cyber operations. Although, MIL-STD-2525D includes some symbols for cyber operations, only icons that are composed of three letters are standardized. So there is a limit to effectively expressing cyber operations. That is why we propose military symbols for cyber operations compatible with existing military symbol building rules. In addition to merely presenting the symbols, we present examples of expressing various cyber situations using the proposed symbols. It proves the usefulness of the proposed symbol. The small number of symbols proposed in this paper will not be able to represent all cyber situations. However, based on the proposed symbols, it is expected that more symbols will be standardized in the future to more clearly express the cyber situation.

  • The Ministry of National Defense is strengthening the power and capacity of cyber operations as cyber protection training is conducted. However, considering the level of enemy cyber attack capability, the level of cyber defense capability of the ministry of national defense is significantly low and the protection measures and response system for responding to cyber threats to military networks are not clearly designed, falling short of the level of cyber security capabilities of the public and private sectors. Therefore, this paper is to investigate and verify the establishment of a military internal network vulnerability mitigation system that applies the intention of attackers, tactics, techniques and procedures information (ATT&CK Framework), identified military internal network main threat information, and military information system security requirements with military specificity as factors that can establish a defense network vulnerability mitigation system by referring to the domestic and foreign cyber security framework It has the advantage of having.

  • Since the cyber defense has been dependent on commercial products and protection systems, in aspect of the recent trends, our cyber defence ecosystem can be more vulnerable. In case of general defense weapon companies, they have to be observed by the government such as certain proprietary technologies and products for the protection from the enemy. On the contrary, most cyber weapon companies have not been managed like that. For this reason, cyber attack can reach to the inside of our military through the security hole of commercial products. In this paper, we enhanced a military cyber protection ecosystems out of enemy attacks and analyze the hypothetical scenarios to evaluate and verify the vulnerability, and finally more securable ecosystem of military protection system is presented politically and technically.

  • While the social activities using Internet become generalized, the side effect of the information security violation is increasing steadily and threaten the countries which is not ready to prevent from offensive penetration such as the Information-fighter or Cyber-military. In this paper, we define the concept and characteristics of the modern Information-Warfare and analyze various kinds of threatened elements and also examine the recent trend in other countries. And introducing Computer Forensics raised recently for the confrontation against the security violation in the future, we will show the developing strategies and the necessity in order to response cyber attacks. These developing strategies can be used to ensure and re-trace the technical evidence for the security violation and to achieve the disaster relief effectively. So we hope that can apply them to the actual preparation through developing cyber trial test of the defense and attack for the Information-Warfare.

  • Cyber threats can bypass existing cyber-protection systems and are rapidly developing by exploiting new technologies such as artificial intelligence. In order to respond to such cyber threats, it is important to improve the ability to detect unknown cyber threats by correlating heterogeneous cyber protection systems. In this paper, to enhance cyber-attack response capabilities, we proposed command and control that enables rapid decision-making and response before the attack objectives are achieved, using Lockheed Martin's cyber kill chain and MITRE ATT&CK to analyze the purpose and intention of the attacker.

  • The Cyber Kill Chain originally proposed by Lockheed Martin defines the standard procedure of general cyber attacks and suggests tailored defensive actions per each step, eventually neutralizing the intent of the attackers. Defenders can effectively deal with Advanced Persistent Threat(APT)s which are difficult to be handled by other defensive mechanisms under the Cyber Kill Chain. Recently, however, social engineering techniques that exploits the vulnerabilities of humans who manage the target systems are prevail rather than the technical attacks directly attacking the target systems themselves. Under the circumstance, the Cyber Kill Chain model should evolve to encompass social engineering attacks for the improved effectiveness. Therefore, this paper aims to establish a definite concept of Cyber Kill Chain for social engineering based cyber attacks, called Social Engineering Cyber Kill Chain, helping future researchers in this literature.

  • Recently, there has been an increase in the number of social engineering techniques that indirectly attack the target system administrators or organizational weaknesses rather than the traditional technical cyber attacks that directly attacked the target systems. Accordingly, the type analysis and case study of social engineering techniques are being actively conducted. There has been, however, little effort to derive an analysis model that systematically analyzes social engineering based cyberspace operations. Therefore, this paper aims at building a Social Engineering Based Cyberspace Operations Analysis Model, which can be used as a reference framework for a case study or attack scenario generation of social engineering based cyberspace operations.

  • Threats targeting cyberspace are becoming more intelligent and increasing day by day. To cope with such cyber threats, it is essential to improve the coping ability of system security officers. In this paper, we propose a stateful traffic generator that provide network background traffic for cyber warfare training. The proposed architecture is designed for generating traffic similar to real system traffic, so the trainee can perform more realistic training.

  • Threats targeting cyberspace are becoming more intelligent and increasing day by day. To cope with such cyber threats, it is essential to improve the coping ability of system security officers. In this paper, we propose a simulated threat generator that automatically generates cyber threats for cyber defense training. The proposed Simulated Threat Generator is designed with MITRE ATT & CK(Adversarial Tactics, Techniques and Common Knowledge) framework to easily add an evolving cyber threat and select the next threat based on the threat execution result.
