As Light-Emitting Diodes(LEDs) continue to advance in performance, their application in automotive lamps is increasing. Automotive LEDs utilize light guides not only for aesthetics but also to control light quantity and direction. Light guides employ patterns of a few hundred micrometers(㎛) to regulate the light, and the surface roughness(Ra) of these patterns can reach tens of nanometers(nm). Given that these light guides are produced through injection molding, mold processing technology with high surface quality micro-patterns is required. This study serves as a preliminary investigation into the development of high surface quality micro-pattern processing technology. It examines the surface roughness of the workpiece based on the cutting direction of the pattern and the cutting fluid type when cutting micro-patterns on STAVAX steel using cubic Boron Nitride(cBN) tools. The experiments involved machining a step-shaped micro-pattern with a height of 60 ㎛ and a pitch of 400 ㎛ in a 22×22 mm area under identical cutting conditions, with only the cutting direction and cutting fluid type being varied. The machining results of four cases were compared, encompassing two cases of cutting direction(parallel to the pattern, orthogonal to the pattern) and two cases of cutting fluid type (flood, mist). Consequently, the Ra value was found to be the highest(Ra 128.33 nm) when machining with the flood type in parallel to the pattern, while it was the lowest(Ra 95.22 nm) when machining with the mist type orthogonal to the pattern. These findings confirm that there is a difference of up to 25.8 % in the Ra value depending on the cutting direction and cutting fluid type.

This paper presented on an environment estimation of cutting fluid which is a mouse model of acute bacterial rhinosinusitis using cutting fluid in grinding and cutting. Above results will be remarked the necessity of friendly environmental cutting skill when it had used in workshop. The results of a mouse experimental using cutting fluid showed that it are occurred to the respiratory organs sickness. Also cutting fluid are occurred to hurtfulness a person when it used to grinding and cutting in workshop. Also, the results of grinding experiments in avitation materials showed that surface roughness are superior to more emulsion type oil than vegetable type oil according to increase of the depth of cut. Grinding force are similar to both emulsion type oil and vegetable type oil.
Metal cutting operations involve generation of heat due to friction between the tool and the pieces. This heat needs to be carried away otherwise it creates white spots. To reduce this abnormal heat cutting fluid is used. Cutting fluid also has an important role in the lubrication of the cutting edges of machine tools and the pieces they are shaping, and in sluicing away the resulting swarf. As a cutting fluid, water is a great conductor of heat but is not stable at high temperatures, so to improve stability an emulsion type mixed fluid with water and oil is often used. It is pumped over the cutting site of cutting machines as a state of atomized water droplet coated with oil by using jet. In this paper, to develop cutting fluid supplying nozzle to obtain ultra thin oil film for coating water droplet, a numerical analysis of three dimensional mixed fluid Jet through multi-stage nozzle was carried out by using a finite volume method. Jet flow characteristics such as nozzle exit velocity, development of mixing region, re-entrance and jet intensity were analyzed. Detailed mixing process of fluids such as air, water and oil in the nozzle were also investigated. It is easy to understand complex flow pattern in multi-stage nozzle. Important flow Information for advance design of cutting fluid supplying nozzle was drawn.

Dust collecting performance of cyclone collector for oil mist was alalyzed in the study. The purposes of using cutting fluid during cutting have been colling, lubricating, chip washing and anti-corroding. However, the present manufactaring industry restricts the use of cutting fluid because cutting fluid confains poisonous substances which are harmful to the human body. Also, the optimum design oil-mist collector. The new oil mist collector was designed. In the near future, this device must be tested in the real machining center and CNC machine. Cutting using oil-mist showed better cutting characteristics than dry, air and fluid cutting with respect to by cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness. The model(A, B Type cyclone) of the set of fixture and alveolus are made by using a CAE software. Finally, we have obtained a model A Type solution by using orthogonal array. Therefore, it could be confirmed that as the model-A was increased and model-B was decreased, cut diameter was decreased.

This paper presents the characteristics of cutting fluid atomization due to its application method. In this study three different application methods; nozzle, jet, mist type is adopted for evaluating the cutting fluid's effect in terms of machinability and environmental consciousness. Cutting fluids are widely used to cool and lubricate the cutting zone in machining process. Cutting fluids mist via atomization in spin-off process can be affected to health risk. To satisfy the increasing concern of health and environment problem and keep the machinability or productivity it is necessary to establish the resonable strategy of cutting fluid usage and optimal control. Tool wear and cutting fluid diffusion rate in the air were measured as machinability index and environmental index in a few turing operation. Through this basic approach it can be also provide the optimization of cutting process and improvement of machine tool design in achieving environmentally conscious machining.

The investigation of microscopic precision in high speed endmilling is necessary for machinability evaluation, and the environmentally conscious machining technology have more important position in recent machining process. The microscopic precision of workpiece is influenced by machining environments variation as cutting fluid type and lubricant method. In this study, the cutting forces according to variation of cooling and lubrication are investigated by specially designed tool dynamometer. And the surface roughness, micro hardness and residual stress are evaluated according to machining environment. The characteristics of damaged layer in environmentally conscious machining and conventional machining using cutting fluid are compared experimentally.

Metalworking fluids (MWFs) are fluids used during machining and grinding to prolong the life of the tool, carry away debris, and protect the surfaces of work pieces. These fluids reduce friction between the cutting tool and the work surface, reduce wear and galling, protect surface characteristics, reduce surface adhesion or welding and carry away generated heat. Workers can be exposed to MWFs by inhaling aerosols (mists) and by skin contact with the fluid. Skin contact occurs by dipping the hands into the fluid, splashes, or handling workpieces coated with the fluids. The amount of mist generated (and the resulting level of exposure) depends on many factors. To reduce the environmental pollution wastes and the potential health risks associated with occupational exposures to MWFs, it is required to establish optimum MWFs supply method and condition with minimum quantity in all over the mechanical machining field including high-speed type heavy cutting process.

To decrease environmental damage, the development of environmental friendly fluids provides attractive alternative to the conventional fluids. In this study, the effects of harmful ingredients (Cl, S) contained in the fluids that used in grinding and cutting processes to influence on the nasal cavities of the white rats were measured indirectly. Also, the level of the environmental influence in workshops was graded through analyzing the concentration and chemical ingredients of flying-dust, which generated from the friction and combustion in the cutting process, that for analyzing how harmful the influence of particles to workers then it could be used as the basic data for improving the environment. To improve the conventional machining fluid, which can be harmful on worker's bodies and the environment, the environmental friendly machining method was suggested through analyzing each lubrication properties of vegetable fluid and used-edible oil as alternative fluid. As a result, it was known that an emulsion type fluid might be the main cause leading to some respiratory ailments. Also this paper presents the possibility to use vegetable fluid and used-edible oil as the alternative of cutting fluids.

When drilling through Inconel 601 nickel-chromium-based alloys, a large amount of cutting oil is required to prevent tools from wear and fracturing due to heat buildup resulting from the high temperature resistance and toughness of this alloy. However, cutting oil supply has become a factor compromising the machining environment, and this has caused attention to shift to a more environmentally friendly cutting fluid supply system called minimum quantity lubrication (MQL). Our aim in this study was to find a more efficient drill processing method using MQL, and to verify its performance. To that end, we proposed a sealed cover, a step feed, and POSS-type cutting oil as measures to increase the effectiveness of MQL in view of the cutting force and tool wear, and established an improvement in efficiency using the proposed measures.
