Background: The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a simple index of systemic inflammatory response, and has been shown to be a prognostic indicator in some types of cancer. Inflammation has been implicated in the initiation and progression of thyroid cancer. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship of NLR with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) and different benign thyroid pathologies like multinodular goiter (MNG) and lymphocytic thyroiditis (LT). Materials and Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the neutrophil, lymphocyte counts and NLR calculated from these parameters of 232 patients with histologically confirmed as multinodular goiter (group MNG) (n=70), lymphocytic thyroiditis (group LT) (n=97), LT with PTC (group LT-PTC) (n=25) and PTC (group PTC) (n=40). The optimal cut-off value for NLR was determined. Results: NLR level was significantly higher in groups LT-PTC and PTC as compared to groups MNG and LT (p<0.05). NLR of LT subgroups according to TSH levels were not different (p>0.05). When we grouped the patients as benign and malignant according to PTC presence, the optimum NLR cut-off point obtained from ROC analysis was 1.91 (sensitivity 89.0% and specificity 54.5%). Conclusions: Since NLR was significantly elevated in group LT-PTC and group PTC, NLR value may give an opinion as a potential marker in differentiation of benign and malign thyroid disorders. For this purpose a cut-off value of 1.91 for NLR may be accepted.

Susceptibility of 61 strains of Helicobacter pylori to metronidazole was examined by both the disk diffusion method using a cut-off of 15㎜ for resistance and the E test with a cut-off of 8㎎/l. The MIC/sub 50/ and MIC/sub 90/ by the E test were 2 ㎎/l and 256㎎/l, respectively. Metronidazole resistance was found in 22 (36%) out of the 61 H. pylori strains by the E test and in three additional strains by the disk diffusion method. Amongst the latter three isolates, the MICs by the E test were 4 ㎎/l, 6㎎/l, and 6㎎/l, respectively. These figures are one log₂ or half log₂ dilution lower than the cut-off of 8㎎/l recommended as resistance for the E test. All 22 metronidazole resistant H. pylori isolates by the E test that were subjected to random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting showed different DNA fingerprints. Interestingly, >90% of resistant isolates possess two common DNA bands of 0.4 and 0.9 kb. This study demonstrates that the results of the disk diffusion method for testing H. pylori susceptibility to metronidazole correlates well with that of the E test. The criteria for interpretation need to be internationally standardized so that the results from different centers can be compared.

All infants should be screened for phenylketonuria (PKU) within the three days of life, in order to allow timely dietary intervention to protect children with PKU from neurologic damage in Korea. A commonly used cut-off level for diagnosis of PKU is $240{\mu}mol/L$ (4 mg/dL). Up to 2% of cases of hyperphenylalaninemias (HPA) detected by the screening test will account for a disorder of $BH_4$ metabolism. Therefore, analysis of blood or urinary pterins is essential, backed up with measurement of DHPR activity, as this allows differentiation of $BH_4$ disorders. A $BH_4$ loading test and measurement of neurotransmitters in CSF provide further important information to the severity of $BH_4$ deficiency and $BH_4$ loading test can detect patients with $BH_4$ deficiency and $BH_4$ responsive PKU. Several protocols for $BH_4$ loading test have been described, involving treatment with $BH_4$ for periods ranging from 1 day to 1 month, and using doses of $BH_4$ of 10-20 mg/kg. There is general agreement that a reduction on blood phenylalanine of at least 30% in response to $BH_4$ loading indicates a clinically significant effect, although in some tests a lower cut-off value may be defined for individual patients, or no specific cut-off value is proposed. The frequency of $BH_4$ responsiveness is highest in patients with mild HPA and mild to moderate PKU resulting from PAH mutations with residual activity.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the 8.5seconds cut-off of the 8-foot up-and-go test as a predictor of falling and a good discriminator of fallers and non-fallers in women in their 60s to 80s. METHODS: The final subjects of this study were 98 elderly women from six senior centers of B metropolitan city. The 8-foot up-and-go test evaluated agility and dynamic balance. The chair-stand test measured the muscle strength for of the lower body. Ankle dorsiflexion and plantar flexion were measured to assess the ankle mobility of the subjects in this study. RESULTS: The below 8.5seconds group showed significantly low values in age and high values in chair-stand (times/30 s), plantar flexion ($^{\circ}$), and K-MMSE (score) compared to the over 8.5seconds group. This group was significantly faster compared to the over 8.5seconds group. In the below 8.5seconds group, only plantar flexion ($^{\circ}$) of all the items showed significantly higher values among those in their 60s compared to those in their 70s and 80s. CONCLUSION: The 8.5seconds cut-off on the 8-foot up-and-go test as a good discriminator and predictor of falling showed differences among fall risk factors (age, lower extremity strength, cognition, and ankle mobility) in women in their 60s to 80s without having regular exercise and a fall experience over the past ones year.
In this study, we produced heat-shield coating materials using surface-treated Ga-doped ZnO (GZO) and investigated the dispersity of particle, visible light transmittance, ultraviolet light cut off, infrared light cut-off, heat-shielding property by surface-treating compounds and treatment conditions. In the case of using IPA or acryl binder for heat-shield coating, the dispersity of inorganic oxide particles was poor but in the case of using surface-treated inorganic oxide particles by hybrid compound having urethane (urea) group, acryl group and silica, dispersity of particle, visible light transmittance and haze were improved. We used the measurement kit and sunlamp for measuring heat-shielding property and confirmed that the internal temperature of the measurement kit using heat-shield film was lower more than $4.8^{\circ}C$ in comparison with using PET film for itself.
Asian dust(or yellow sand) occurs mainly in spring and occasionally in winter in east Asia, when the weather conditions are under an upper trough/cut-off low and surface high/low pressure system during blocking episode days associated with the stationary patterns of the upper level jet stream. The transport mechanism for Asian dust during the blocking episode days in spring 2001 was analyzed using the TOMS aerosol index and meteorological mesoscale model 5(MM5). Based on the E vector, an extension of an Eliassen-Palm flux, the blocking episode days were found to be associated with the development of an upper cut-off low and surface cyclones. Concurrently, the occurrence of dust storms was also determined by strong cold advection at the rear of a jet streak, which exhibited a maximum wind speed within the upper jet stream. As such, the transport mechanism for Asian dust from China was due to advection of the isentropic potential vorticity(IPV) and isentropic surfaces associated with tropopause folding. The transport heights for Asian dust during the blocking episode days were found to be associated with the distribution of the isentropes below the IPV At the same time, lee waves propagated by topography affected the downward motion and blocking of Asian dust in China. The Asian dust transported from the dust source regions was deposited by fallout and rain-out with a reinforcing frontogenesis within a surface cyclone, as determined from satellite images using TOMS and GMS5. Accordingly, these results emphasize the importance of forecasting jet streaks, the IPV, and isentropes with geopotential heights in east Asia.

Parallel and cross of the electrical power and telecommunication network is become accelerated, because telecommunication equipments are constructed according to road for efficient maintenance of domestic telecommunication network. The electrical power network can generate an electrostatic induction, and is itself transmission medium from electrical transient phenomenon such as lighting. So, transient phenomenon of lightning surge is induced to telecommunication network, and then it is damaged by connecting between electrical ground of electrical power network and telecommunication network. In this study, we found that cut-off of return path current by separate distance between electrical ground of electrical power network and telecommunication network, and cut-off of electrostatic induction voltage by grounding unused leads of both terminals of the electrical and telecommunication network have good effect as the protection methods of telecommunications network from electrical transient phenomena.

This paper has proposed a multi-channel low pass filter (LPF) for LTE-Advanced systems. The proposed LPF is an active-RC 5th chebyshev topology with three cut-off frequencies of 5 MHz, 10 MHz, and 40 MHz. A 3-bit tuning circuit has been adopted to prevent variations of each cut-off frequency from process, voltage, and temperature (PVT). To achieve a high cut-off frequency of 40 MHz, an operational amplifier used in the proposed filter has employed a PMOS cross-connection load with a negative impedance. A proposed filter has been implemented in a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology and consumes 20.2 mW with a 1.2V supply voltage.

A cyclone separator has been widely used in various industrial processes for removing fine particulate matter because it is easy to fabricate, cost effective, and adaptable to extremely harsh conditions. However, owing to the complex flow field in cyclones, a complete understanding of the detailed mechanisms of particulate removal has not yet been gained. In this study, a theoretical analysis was performed for calculating the collection efficiency and cut-off size in cyclones by taking into account the effects of geometrical and flow parameters. The collection efficiency and cut-off size values predicted by the theoretical model showed good agreement with experimental measurements for particles with a diameter of $0.5-30{\mu}m$. It was also revealed that the surface friction, along with the flow and geometrical parameters, has a significant effect on the cyclone performance.
This study made a testing device to evaluate the distribution board management system. Power was supplied to the testing device using a loading-back method and the voltage applied to it was 440 V at the same turn ratio. When the human body electric shock current is 30 mA, the breaking time is set to be less than 240 ms while 30~45 mA current is flowing. The test result shows that in the case of the R-phase it was measured to be 5.19 Hz (193 ms). And the S-phase and T-phase were perfectly cut off at 5.39 Hz (186 ms) and 5.71 Hz (175 ms), respectively. When the human body electric shock current is 60mA, the breaking time is set to be less than 120 ms while 45~75 mA current is flowing. The test result shows that the R-phase, S-phase, and T-phase were accurately cut off at 8.39 Hz (11 ms), 8.87Hz (113 ms) and 9.69 Hz (103 ms), respectively. When the human body electric shock current is 90 mA, the breaking time is set to be less than 48 ms while 75 mA current is flowing. The test result shows that the R-phase, S-phase, and T-phase were accurately cut off at 19.8 Hz (50.4 ms), 16.9 Hz (59.2 ms), and 17.9 Hz (56.0 ms), respectively. That is, the developed testing device satisfied all the requirements of the distribution board evaluation criteria, and it becomes available for the performance evaluation of the distribution board management system.
