Real-Time Surface Interpolator for Multiple Surface Machining Based on a Surface Cycle Command (복합 사이클 코드 지령 방식의 다중곡면 가공을 위한 실시간 곡면 보간기)

  • The present CNC machining system if without any CAM software has been limited to 2D or 2.5D plane cut using lines, arcs and curves. If the CNC is equipped with a surface interpolation module and a surface reorganizing module inside it, we can easily try 3D surface machining without aid of CAM software. The existing NURBS surface interpolator is simple and direct to use for a unit surface. However, it enables only machining of each reference surface individually even when machining a simple composite surface. In this paper, we propose a method which can unify and reorganize various reference surfaces with a newly defined NURBS surface cycle command: a multi-repetitive cycle command such as in a CNC turning center. We also introduce a reorganizing rule for reference surfaces using NURBS properties. The usefulness of the proposed method is verified through computer simulation.

  • There are technical requirements to manufacture large size functional parts with not only simple geometries like a flat or spherical surface but also sculptured geometries. In addition, the required machining accuracy for these parts is becoming more severe day-by-day. In general, the forms of machined parts are determined by relative position between the workpiece and the tool during cutting. To improve machining accuracy, the relative position error should be maintained within the required accuracy. This study deals with estimation and calibration of depth of cut using AE signal in micro-machining.

  • Force generated during grinding process causes elastic defomation. The effect of this deforms a workpiecs. So grinding system is explainable using the concept of macining elasticity phenomenon. Machining elasticity is defined as ratio between the true depth of c ut, and an importnat factor to affect material removal mchanism and productivity. Generally, to produce accurate surface and dimensionally precise components operators depend on their experiences. Because of these, productivity is reduced and time is wasted. The objective of this reserch is to study the effect of grinding conditions, such as table speed, depth of cut on the machining elasticity parameter.

  • This paper presents a new cutting method, i.e. diamond cutting, aided by electrolysis, in order to cut ferrous materials with diamond tools. Diamond cutting is widely applied in manufacturing ultraprecision parts such as magnetic disk, polygon mirror, spherical/non-spherical mirror and copier drum, etc. because of the diamond tool edge sharpness. In general, however, diamond cutting cannot be applied to cutting steels, because diamond tools wear excessively in cutting iron based materials like steel due to their high chemical interaction with iron in high temperature. In order to suppress the diffusion of carbon from the diamond tool and to reduce increase of cutting force due to size effect, we attempt to change chemically the compositions of iron based materials using electrolysis in a limited part which will be soon cut. Through experiments under several micro-machining and electrolysis conditions, cutting using electrolysis, compared to conventional cutting, was found to result in a great decrease of the cutting force, a better surface and much less wear tool.

  • The objective of this study is to acquire stabilization of collapse of cut-slope in Chang-Nyung, Gyeong-Nam. The following shows the results of this study. We applied a reinforcement method with the latticed beam $(0.50\times0.50)$ + permanent anchor($PC\;6\times\phi12.7mm$, Ta = 50.0t/EA, etc 3.0m), and fill gravels(D=35cm) in the latticed beam. We attenuated the slope (1:2.0), and stabilized the slope pace by ASANA method. We planned a drainage way(U-type, $0.40\times0.40$) in order to prevent surface water from inflowing into underground.

  • An image processing method was applied to characterize a shape of the flexible grinding disk. A disk surface image was taken by CCD camera. Depth of cut was changed to be 2 and 4mm. Circles marked on the disk were captured to extract the key features of the deflection. Notable correlation has been observed between the intervals and the process conditions. Same methodology has been applied to check the symmetry of the human face. Tentative results revealed that symmetry could be checked using the filtered face image.

  • Colluvial sell has a very unique deformation property, particularly when it is subject to the cutting work entailed in a variety of construction. In this study, the cut slope tying on a colluvial layer in which the transmission tower had been installed were investigated to find out the cause of deformation. In-situ tests such as boring, surface-wave analysis (MASW) were employed to look into the physical composition of underground layers and FEM including LEM were carried out to simulate the construction steps. The result shows that the stress relaxation followed by road construction induced the deformation of the slope and damage in the foundation of the transmission tower.

In general, the form accuracy of machined parts is determined by the relative position between workpiece and tool during machining process. To improve machining accuracy the relative position errors should be maintained within the required accuracy. This study deals with the estimation and calibration of depth of cut using the AE signal in micro-machining. Also, this sensing technique can be applied to detect the initial contact between workpiece and tool.

Microshear bond strength of a self-etching primer adhesive to enamel according to the type of bur (삭제기구의 종류에 따른 자가부식 프라이머 접착제의 법랑질에 대한 미세전단 결합강도)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the microshear bond strength (uSBS) to enamel prepared with different burs and to determine what type of bur were chosen when a self-etching primer adhesive was used. Materials and Methods: Enamel of forty-two human molars were used. They were divided into one of six groups (n = 7), Group 1, coarse (125 - 150 ${\mu}m$) diamond bur; Group 2, standard (106 - 125 ${\mu}m$) diamond bur; Group 3, fine (53 - 63 ${\mu}m$) diamond bur; Group 4, extrafine (20 - 30 ${\mu}m$) diamond bur; Group 5, plaincut carbide bur (no. 245); Group 6, cross-cut carbide bur (no. 557). Clearfil SE Bond and Clearfil AP-X (Kuraray Medical Inc.) was bonded to enamel surface. The bonded specimens were subjected to uSBS testing. Results: The uSBS of Group 4 was the highest among groups and it was significantly higher than that of Groups 1, 2, 3, and 6 (p < 0.05), but it was not significantly different from that of Group 5. Conclusions: Different burs used on enamel surface affected the microshear bond strengths of a self-etching primer adhesive to the enamel surface. In the case of Clearfil SE Bond, extrafine diamond and plain-cut carbide bur are recommended for bonding to enamel.

Substructure Evaluation of Pavement due to Excavation and Recompaction Sequences for Pipe Installation (굴착, 관 매입 및 다짐 연속과정에 따른 포장하부구조 강성펑가)

  • Pipe installation following excavation of pavement and underlying-soils induces settlements, cracks and bad roughness near utility cut. This study is to use PMT and LDWT in order to evaluate stiffness and/or degree of compaction of sublayers and backfill in utility cut section because no specially designed efforts for evaluating stiffness condition of the substructures below new pavement after pipe installation are offered at this time. From test results of PMT, comparable stiffness and/or degree of compaction in recompaction process is not obtained comparing to that of the existing sublayers before excavation. Thickness of the new surface layer after pipe installation must be designed thicker than that of the existing surface layer. It is verified that LDWT comparing to PMT is effective only to get stiffness and/or degree of compaction within limited depth from surface of materials, but it is not useful to evaluate stiffness of substructures in full depth in case of utility cut.
