Measurement of Turbulent Flows in a Square Sectioned $270^{\circ}$ Bend (열선 유속계에 의한 정사각형 단면의 270도 곡관에서의 난류유동 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Most of the past experimental or analytical studies were performed for the curved bend with a square cross-section. Velocity profiles and Reynolds stresses of the turbulence flow in the 270 degree bend with circular cross-section were measured by a hot-wire anemometer. The mean velocity of primary flowing direction effected by the downstream of bend in the entry region of the bend. The flow in the inner part of the bend slowed the distribution velocity relatively large and unsymmetric phenomenon. In the strong secondary flow occurred when the flow passed in the region of 45 degree to 90 degree. The secondary flow appeared very large value in the neighbor region of inner wall.

  • The present study investigates in detail the combined effects of the Coriolis force and centrifugal force on the development of turbulent flows in a square-sectioned U-bend rotating about an axis parallel to the center of bend curvature. When a viscous fluid flows through a curved region of U-bend, two types of secondary flow occur. One is caused by the Coriolis force due to the rotation of U-bend and the other by the centrifugal force due to the curvature of U-bend. For positive rotation, where the rotation is in the same direction as that of the main flow, both the Coriolis force and the centrifugal force act radially outwards. Therefore, the flow structure is qualitatively similar to that observed in a stationary curved duct. On the other hand, under negative rotation, where these two forces act in opposite direction, more complex flow fields can be observed depending on the relative magnitudes of the forces. Under the condition that the value of Rossby number and curvature ratio is large, the flow field in a rotating U-bend can be represented by two dimensionless parameters : $K_{TC}$ =Re $\sfrac{1}{4}$√λand a body force ratio F=λ/Ro. Here, $K_{TC}$ has the same dynamical meaning as $K_{TC}$ =Re√λ for laminar flow.

An Experimental Study on the Flow Characteristics with the Impinging Angles of Defrost Nozzle Jet Inside a Vehicle Passenger Compartment (차실내 Defrost 노즐 분류의 충돌각 변화에 따른 유동특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The flow characteristics with the impinging angles of defrost nozzle jet inside a commercial vehicle passenger compartment were investigated experimentally by using the two-dimensional duct-nozzle model. The shape of the nozzle contraction was designed according to the curved line of cubic equation to the vertical plan of the flow direction. The impinging angles, defined as the angle between nozzle axis and a vertical line to the windshield, were varied from the $0^{\circ}\;to\;80^{\circ}$. The mean velocity distributions, the half-widths, and the momentum distributions with the cases of both the free jet and the impinging jet onto the dummy windshield were measured. The impinging jet flows similarly with wall jet from $X/b_o=20$, and the impinging angle has an effect on the half-width of the impinging jet. The momentum distributions onto the windshield increased with the increase of impinging angle, and then their inflection point was observed around the impinging angle of $60^{\circ}$.

  • The Present study uses non-Newtonian simulant gel propellant mixed by Water, Carbopol 941, and NaOH solution in order to analyze the gel propellant flow behavior. Rheological data have been measured and obtained prior to the analysis of flow characteristics where water-gel propellant as well as water-gel propellant with $Al_2O_3$ nano particles are both used. The critical Dean number were examined by numerical simulation of gel propellant in the U-shape duct flow. It is found that though gel-nano propellants have higher apparent viscosity, the critical Dean number did not showed notable difference with respect to the water-gel propellant. It is believe that this is due to the fact that the power law index of both propellants have close value, as was demonstrated by Fellouah et al.[1]

An Experimental Study of the Impulsive Wave Discharged from a Curved Duct (곡관으로부터 방출되는 펄스파에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study depicts an experimental work of the impulsive wave discharged from the open end of several kinds of right-angle bend pipes, which are attached to the open end of a simple shock tube. The weak normal shock wave with its magnitude of Mach number from 1.03 to 1.20 is employed to obtain the impulsive wave propagating outside the open end of the bend pipes. The experimental data of the magnitude of the impulsive wave and its propagation directivity are analyzed to characterize the impulsive waves discharged from the right-angle bend pipes and compared with those from a straight pipe. The results obtained show that a right-angle miter bend considerably reduces the magnitude of the impulsive wave and its directivity toward to the pipe axis, compared with the straight pipe. It is believed that the right angle miter bend pipe can playa role of passive control against the impulsive wave.

  • In the present study, a new method of generating boundary-fitted coordinates systems controlled by control function is introduced. Application of the method to a three-dimensional simply-connected region is the demonstrated. The numerical grid generation has following feat ures, (a) The generated boundary fitted coordinates is well concentrated in near wall region and satisfied orthogonality, (b) The grid control function is fully automatic and well controlled in sharp convex boundary.

  • With a view to estimating the effect of flows on evolving sprays and combustion in ramjet combustor and corresponding extent of combustion, ram air flows in combustion chamber is numerically experimented. Preconditioned three dimensional Navier-Stokes system of equations per transient, compressible, turbulent flows in IRR(Integral Rocket Ramjet) combustor is numerically integrated. Flow properties in the side-dump ramjet combustor, rectangular duct with two 60-deg curved inlets located radially at an angle of 180-deg, are addressed in terms of mixing quality and extent of combustion efficiency.

Taxonomic Notes on the Genus Sinopoda (Araneae, Sparassidae), with Descriptions of Two New Species from Korea

  • The genus Sinopoda (Araneae, Sparassidae) from Korea are taxonomically reviewed. As a result, Sinopoda aureola is removed from the synonymy of Sinopoda stellatops and treated as a valid species. In addition, two new species, Sinopoda biguttata sp. nov. and Sinopoda nigrobrunnea sp. nov. are described with accompanying photographs. The new species, S. biguttata sp. nov., can be distinguished from other congeners by the combination of following characteristics: a pair of large ivory patterns near posterior muscle sigilla on opisthosoma; relatively small internal genitalia and long, distally bifurcated fertilization duct. The new species, S. nigrobrunnea sp. nov., can be distinguished from other congeners by the combination of following characteristics: lateral edge of epigyne angled; edge of epigynal pocket linear; glandular appendages perpendicularly directed then curved posteriorly.
