  • This paper is a study of 6~18 GHz wideband high power amplifier which is composed of 10 single amplifier and coaxial type spatial power combiner. The property of this spatial power combiner is on a similar principle to antipodal antenna radiation mechanism. Therefore, the key structure of proposed spatial power combiner is the antipodal finline PCB board and the finline curve shape is numerically synthesized by using Klopfensein's optimum impedance taper. The measured CW output power of spatial combined high power amplifier is nearly 50 W. In conclusion we prove the good combining performance between the spatial power combiner and 10 single amplifier over 6~18 GHz frequency ranges. Also, we developed the key component PA and MFC MMIC which controls the phase and gain of the each amplifier, The main characteristic of MFC MMIC is to maximize combining efficiency of power amplifier.

  • Observations from experiments and real fire indicate that restrained steel beams have better fire-resistant capability than isolated beams. Due to the effects of restraints, a steel beam in fire condition can undergo very large deflections and the run away damage may be avoided. In addition, axial forces will be induced with temperature increasing and play an important role on the behaviour of the restrained beam. The factors influencing the behavior of a restrained beam subjected to fire include the stiffness of axial and rotational restraints, the load type on the beam and the distribution of temperature in the cross-section of the beam, etc. In this paper, a simplified model is proposed to analyze the performance of restrained steel beams in fire condition. Based on an assumption of the deflection curve of the beam, the axial force, together with the strain and stress distributions in the beam, can be determined. By integrating the stress, the combined moment and force in the cross-section of the beam can be obtained. Then, through substituting the moment and axial force into the equilibrium equation, the behavior of the restrained beam in fire condition can be worked out. Furthermore, for the safety evaluation and repair after a fire, the behaviour of restrained beams during cooling should be understood. For a restrained beam experiencing very high temperatures, the strength of the steel will recover when temperature decreases, but the contraction force, which is produced by thermal contraction, will aggravate the tensile stresses in the beam. In this paper, the behaviour of the restrained beam in cooling phase is analyzed, and the effect of the contraction force is discussed.

  • This study investigated basic material properties and compressibility of commonly used pharmaceutical excipients. Five classes of excipients are selected including starch, lactose, calcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), and povidone. The compressibility was evaluated using compression parameters derived from Heckel and Kawakita equation. The Heckel plot for lactose and dicalcium phosphate showed almost linear relationship. However, for MCC and povidone, curves in the initial phase of compression were observed followed by linear regions. The initial curve was considered as particle rearrangement and fragmentation and then plastic deformation at the later stages of the compression cycle. The Kawakita equation showed MCC exhibited higher compressibility, followed by povidone, lactose, and calcium phosphate. MCC undergoes significant plastic deformation during compression bringing an extremely large surface area into close contact and facilitating hydrogen bond formation between the plastically deformed, adjacent cellulose particles. Lactose compacts are consolidated by both plastic deformation and fragmentation, but to a larger extent by fragmentation. Calcium phosphate has poor binding properties because of its brittle nature. When formulating tablets, selection of suitable pharmaceutical excipients is very important and they need to have good compression properties with decent powder flowability. Material properties tested in this study might give a good guide how to select excipients for tablet formulations and help the formulation scientists design the optimum ones.

  • Synthetic zinc wave employs Pulsed plane wave as transmit beam with linear time delay curve. The received echoes in different transmit directions at different transmit times are superposed at imaging Points with Proper time delay compensation using synthetic focusing scheme. This scheme. which uses full aperture in transmit, obtains a high SNR image, and also features high lateral resolution by using two way dynamic focusing at all imaging depths. In this Paper, we consider the Problems in realization of synthetic zinc wave. Also. we have applied the scheme to obtain phantom and in-vivo images using a linear array of 5 MHz. In phantom test. experimental images show high resolution over a more extended imaging depth than conventional fixed Point transmit and receive dynamic focusing schemes In-vivo images show that the resolution could not overcome conventional focusing systems because of motion blurring and(or) aberration of tissue. but the frame rate tan be increased by a factor of more than 5 compared to conventional focusing schemes. with competitive resolution at all imaging depths .

  • Nonmedical use of prescription stimulants such as methylphenidate (MPH) and amphetamine (AP) by normal persons has been increased to improve cognitive functions. Due to high potential for their abuse, reliable analytical methods were required to detect these prescription stimulants in biological samples. A direct injection liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometric (LC-MS/MS) method was developed and implemented for simultaneous determination of MPH, AP and their metabolites ritalinic acid (RA) and 4-hydroxyamphetamine (HAP) in human urine. Urine sample was centrifuged and the upper layer ($100{\mu}L$) was mixed with $800{\mu}L$ of distilled water and $100{\mu}L$ of internal standards ($0.2{\mu}g/mL$ in methanol). The mixture was then directly injected into the LC-MS/MS system. The mobile phase was composed of 0.2% formic acid in distilled water (A) and acetonitrile (B). Chromatographic separation was performed by using a Capcell Pak MG-II C18 ($150mm{\times}2.0mm$ i.d., $5{\mu}m$, Shiseido) column and all analytes were eluted within 5 min. Linear least-squares regression with a 1/x weighting factor was used to generate a calibration curve and the assay was linear from 20 to 1500 ng/mL (HAP), 40-3000 ng/mL (AP and RA) and 2-150 ng/mL (MPH). The intra- and inter-day precisions were within 16.4%. The intra- and inter-day accuracies ranged from -15.6% to 10.8%. The limits of detection for all the analytes were less than 4.7 ng/mL. The suitability of the method was examined by analyzing urine samples from drug abusers.

  • This study developed an HPLC analysis method for the determination of isoegomaketone (IK) and perillaketone (PK) in Perilla frutescens (L.) Britton leaves. P. frutescens ethanol extract was optimized through an HPLC analysis using a C18 column ($250{\times}4.6mml$, D, $S-5{\mu}m$, 12 nm) with gradient elution of water and acetonitrile as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1 mL/min and a UV detection wavelength of 254 nm. The results of this method showed linearity in the calibration curve at a coefficient of correlation ($R^2$) of IK 0.9995, PK 0.9998. The limits of detection (LOD) for IK and PK were $0.234{\mu}g/mL$ and $0.952{\mu}g/mL$. The limits of quantification (LOQ) for IK and PK were $0.017{\mu}g/mL$ and $0.043{\mu}g/mL$. The inter-day precision RSDs of IK and PK in the P. frutescens were 1.25 to 2.69% and 0.36 to 1.10%, respectively, and the intra-day precision RSDs of IK and PK were 0.96 to 2.51% and 0.90 to 1.93%, respectively. The accuracies of IK and PK were 96.31 to 97.92% and 101.26 to 105.14%. In conclusion, this method was applied successfully to the detection of IK and PK in P. frutescens.

  • The destructive method is reliable and widely used for the estimation of material degradation but, it have time-consuming and a great difficulty in preparing specimens from in-service industrial facilities. Therefore, the estimation of degraded structural materials by nondestructive evaluation is strongly desired. In this paper, the use of guided wave was suggested for the evaluation on thermally damaged 2.25Cr-1Mo steel as an alternative way to compensate for limitations of fracture tests. The observation of microstructure variations of the material including carbide precipitation increase and spheroidization near grain boundary was conducted and the correlation with the guided wave features such as energy loss ration and group velocity changes was investigated. Through this study, the feasibility of ultrasonic guided wave evaluation for thermally damaged materials was explored.

  • This paper deals with the dispersion relation of the waves sustained in a cylindrical shell submerged in the fluid. The waveguide finite method and the boundary element method are used to predict the dispersion characteristic of the cylindrical shell. The dispersion diagram of the cylinder is estimated from the eigenvalue problem and the forced vibration response. It follows that the water-loading leads to the decrease of the cut-on frequencies and the phase speeds of the bending waves. On the contrary, the longitudinal waves and the torsional waves are hardly affected by the fluid, and therefore the order of the cut-on frequencies of the waves is changed. The acoustic dispersion diagram is also estimated from the forced acoustic response to identify the characteristics of the wave radiated to the fluid. It follows that the acoustic waves on and near the surface of the cylinder are the same as those in the structure. But at the far field the acoustic waves caused by subsonic waves e.g., the bending waves disappear as the increase of the distance. Conclusively, the characteristics of waves in cylindrical shells are significantly affected by water-loading in terms of the cut-on frequency, the wave speed, the order of the cut-on and radiation.

  • We present photometric results for four new variable stars discovered in the vicinity of the ZZ Ceti-type pulsating white dwarf BR Cam. Observations were performed on 5 nights in November 2003 using the 1.8m telescope at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory with no filter, on 3 nights in December 2003 using the 0.61m telescope at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory with V, I filters, and on 3 nights in October 2004 using the 1.0m telescope at Mt. Lemmon Optical Astronomy Observatory with V, I filters. We estimated their periods from the phase-match technique for one eclipsing binary and the multiple frequency analysis for three pulsating stars. By considering the light curve shape, period and amplitude difference between two passbands, we classified the objects by their variability types as follows: V1 (USNO-A2.0 1425-05691757) is a W UMa-type eclipsing binary with an orbital period of $0^d.4641$; V2 (USNO-A2.0 1425-05703335) is a multi-periodic $\delta$ Set-type pulsating star with a dominant period of $0^d.0649$; V3 (USNO-A2.0 1425-05699659) is also a $\delta$ Set-type pulsating star with a period of $0^d.1408$; and V 4 (USNO-A2.0 1425-05707705) is a RR Lyr-type pulsating star with a period of $0^d.2643$.

  • PZT thick films were fabricated on alumina substrates by a screen printing method. They were sintered at $750^{\circ}C{\sim}1050^{\circ}C$ for 1 h under air or Pb atmosphere. Pyrochlore was observed as a second phase in PZT thick films sintered in air at temperatures of $950^{\circ}C$ and higher. PZT thick films sintered under Pb atmosphere showed denser microstructure, higher dielectric constant, and better-developed P-E hysteresis curve than the films sintered in air. PZT thick films sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ under Pb atmosphere showed the typical ferroelectric hysteresis with remanent polarization of $29.8{\mu}C/cm^2$ and coercive field of 48.4 kV/cm.
