Draft curtains are an important tool to reduce the spread of fire smoke in buildings. This paper mainly studies the influence of draft curtains on smoke spread in a hospital outpatient building with a spacious hall. The outpatient building of a county hospital in China is taken as the research object, and a fire simulation model is established based on PyroSim software. Four scenarios are designed: no draft curtains in the hall, draft curtains with a length of 1.5m in the hall, draft curtains with a length of 2.0m in the hall, and draft curtains with a length of 2.5m in the hall. At the same time, considering the worst situation, only the main emergency exit is opened, while the remaining emergency exits and windows are all closed, and the fire-fighting facilities are not activated. The detection point is set at the open emergency exit, 1.8m above the ground. Through the simulation of four scenarios, the effect of draft curtains on smoke spread is discussed from four aspects: smoke layer height, temperature, visibility, and CO concentration. The results show that draft curtains have a significant impact on the spread of smoke in a hospital outpatient building with a spacious hall. The longer the draft curtains are, the better the smoke-blocking effect. It should be noted that in the actual design, the length of the draft curtains should be considered without affecting the evacuation of personnel.
Woolen tapestry curtains possessed by the Seoul Museum of Craft Art were used to hung on the wall or used for carpets in the winter season in the late Joseon dynasty. Since similar artifacts were only used for the curtain as functional aspects, woolen tapestry curtains were a rare case. In this study, scientific analysis on the accessory ornament of woolen tapestry curtains such as components of metal accessories and frame bar were conducted with the microscope, p-XRF, and SEM. Result of frame bar pigments, organic pigments such as ink stick were likely been used in woolen tapestry curtain 1. In woolen tapestry 2, lead red (Minium) was used in the frame bar. The result of metal parts, copper, and zinc were analyzed by p-XRF. This suggests that metal accessories were crafted using brass. Frame bar of woolen tapestry curtain 2 was made of soft pine (Pinus spp.) analyzed with the scanning electron microscope. Artifacts like woolen tapestry curtains are rare in Korea and scientific analysis databases were scarce, so it is important to construct components analysis data of woolen tapestry curtains. It is expected that additional scientific analysis and interpretation on the artifact's crafting technique can be merged with the analytical data gathered in this study to be utilized on the conservation and restoration of not only woolen curtains but curtain artifacts of the late Joseon dynasty in general.
The intent of this study was to focus attention on the relationship between curtain fabrics and consumer perceptions towards curtains and draperies. This study consisted of the laboratory test for thermal transmittance of selected fabrics and the exploratory survey for consumer perceptions towards curtains and draperies. The objectives of the laboratory test were to measure fabric's thermal transmittance, thickness, and count which affect to the effect in heat controlling. Selected 23 fabrics were tested at Korean Yarn and Fabrics Testing Inspection Institute. The objectives of the exploratory survey were to determine sociodemographic factors; the stage of family life cycle, the economics status, and homemaker's level of education, and physical factors; the type of houses, the direction of windows, and the type of windows, affect consumer perceptions toward curtains and draperies. Questionaires were administered to 489 homemakers selected by a stratified propotional sampling plan, in Seoul in October, 1981. Data from responses were analyzed by T-test(Analysis of Varience) and Partial Correlation. The major findings are as follows; 1. The results of the laboratory test 1) The fabrics used for draperies had higher effect in heat controlling than the fabrics used for glass curtains. 2) It did not show much differences among the fibers in heat controlling. The thicker fibers, however, had the higher effect in heat controlling among same fibers. 3) The fabrics which had high level of effect I heat controlling were corduroy, flax, rayon, nylon, acetate, thick polyester, and thick polyacrylic. The fabrics which had midium level of affect in heat controlling were velveteen, velvet, and thin polyester. The fabrics which had low level of effect in heat controlling were cotton, silk, and thin polyarcylic. 4) The draperies with lining showed 2∼5 times more effective in heat controlling than the draperies without lining. 2. The results of the exploratory survey Consumer perceptions towards curtains and draperies consisted of functional, financial, and aesthetic perception. 1) Factor affecting functional perception towards curtains and draperies was the stage of family life cycle. Families in the contracting stage considered function of curtains and draperies significantly better than those in others stages. 2) Factors affecting financial perception towards curtains and draperies were the economic status, homemaker's level of education, the direction of windows, and the type of windows. However the correlation between the factors and financial perception was too low to explain the significance of tendency. 3) There was not any factors affecting aesthetic perception towards curtains and draperies.

Silt curtains are constructed for minimizing pollution of sediment dispersion in water bodies. In spite of wide uses of the silt curtains, there are few studies for analyzing the effectiveness of them with respect to their dimension and hydraulic characteristics. Currently, the market of silt curtains does not provide the various dimension of them due to the limit of information regarding its effectiveness on reducing sediment pollution. In this study, a series of experiments were conducted to investigate hydraulic characteristics around the silt curtains under the different flow conditions. For this study, a silt curtain was fabricated and an open channel with 30cm of width and 40cm of depth was used. The results indicated that the silt curtain was not effective in preventing dispersion at flow velocities over 0.5m/s in real conditions. Based on the experimental results, it is required that approaching velocity should be minimized and the weight of bottom be increased in order to reduce deformation. The results of this study will provide information required to design appropriate dimension of silt curtains in various water environment such as velocity and water depths.
Curtains are used for shading in windows. Since most curtains are made of flammable materials and are installed vertically, curtains can be an important factor in fire spreading. Accordingly, it is important to predict fire behaviors in studies on the combustion characteristics of flammable interior decorations, such as curtains. In this study, to analyze the combustion characteristics of six kinds of curtains, which are widely used interior decorations, the oxygen index was measured at room temperature and higher temperature. As a result of the experiment, the oxygen index at higher temperature of all specimens was about 3%~7.5% lower than that at room temperature and difference of 0.2% of oxygen index show big differences in combustion phenomenon of specimens. Therefore, when flame retardancy is evaluated with the oxygen index value of flammable interior decorations, the oxygen index value at higher temperature should be sufficiently considered.

In this paper, the shading ratio about to output the minimum critical power of a photovoltaic panel was determined by experiment and simulation. A 2.475[kW] poly-crystalline photovoltaic panel consisting of 11 modules was used in the experiment and its surface was covered with shading curtains, thus the amount of light incident to the modules were controlled. In order to compare with the experimental results, the experimental circuits were modelled with the CASPOC (power electronics electrical drives simulator) and module parameters were applied to it, by which the minimum critical power was calculated. As a result, the photovoltaic panel was about to generate the power when the 5th shading curtains were removed from the module surface, after then the output power linearly increased by removing the shading curtains. In addition, the CASPOC simulation results were similar to the experimental results in the abrupt decreasing pattern of power.
A fire in a clean room may cause a serious loss by spreading smoke particles. The effects of the width of smoke curtains on delay in smoke spread, which is located the work area boundaries, were investigated by using a computational fluid dynamics, for loss prevention by smoke spreading from one fire area to another. The fire scenario was set to a 1 MW methanol fire in a space of $30m\times10m$ floor and 4 m high. Distributions of temperature and smoke particles were compared for the width of the smoke curtains 0 (without smoke curtains), 1, 2, 3m. It was confirmed that a larger width of the smoke curtain delays spread of smoke more, and that making the work areas compartments is necessary to confine the smoke in the fire area.

Five empirical farmhouses were selected to reduce the high temperature damage in oak mushroom cultivation using bed-logs. The cultivation facilities were categorized as follows: those having two blackout curtains or one blackout curtain and outdoor oak mushroom cultivation. The inequality of the indoor condition, oak mushroom hyphae rampant ratio, and fruit body production in each test condition was evaluated. $3^{\circ}C$ was lower in indoor temperature of cultivation facility having two blackout curtains than one blackout curtain. Specifically, the indoor air humidity average of cultivation facilities having one or two blackout curtains was 10% lower than that of outdoor oak mushroom cultivation. This condition is not ideal for oak mushroom cultivation as continuous indoor humidity control is essential for producing good fruit bodies. The Inoculated bed-log surface and oak mushroom hyphae rampant ratio of bed-logs cultivated with two blackout curtains was superior to other tested conditions. The mushroom production ratio observed in facilities with two blackout curtains was 117-204% higher than those cultivated in facilities with only one blackout curtain. Furthermore, the mushroom production ratio increased in based on these findings, we recommended five cultivation facility models to reduce high temperature damage in oak mushroom cultivation using bed-logs.
The multi-layer insulating curtains used in the experiment was produced in six combinations using non-woven fabric containing aerogel and compared and analyzed by measuring heat flux and heat perfusion rates due to weight, thickness and temperature changes. Using silica aerogel, which have recently been noted as new material insulation, this study tries to produce a new combination of multi-layer insulating curtains that can complement the shortcomings of the multi-layer insulating curtains currently in use and maintain and improve its warmth, and analyze the thermal properties. The heat flux means the amount of heat passing per unit time per unit area, and the higher the value, the more heat passing through the multi-layer insulating curtain, and it can be judged that the heat retention is low. The weight and thickness of multi-layer insulation curtains were found to be highly correlated with thermal insulation. In particular, insulation curtains combined with aerogel meltblown non-woven fabric had relatively higher thermal insulation than insulation curtains with the same number of insulation materials. However, the aerogel meltblown non-woven fabric is weak in light resistance and durability, and there is a problem that the production process and aerogel are scattering. In order to solve this problems, the combination of expanded aerogel non-woven fabric and hollow fiber non-woven fabric, which are relatively simple manufacturing processes and excellent warmth, are suitable for use in real farms.

In large-scale factories, there are usually openings in the building to increase the efficiency of workers. However, if the factory is heated during winter, openings significantly increase the heating load. Therefore, there is a need for air curtains to be installed at the top of openings in factories to reduce the heating load due to the cold air entering from outside. The main design variables of these air curtains are the discharge angle, speed, and temperature, etc. While there have already been many studies focusing on these design variables, the distance from the opening and the width of the discharge have not been studied even though they also affect the sealing performance. As a result, when the distance from the opening decreases and the width of the discharge increases, we realize an optimum air curtain performance. However, if the distance from the opening is about 1.5 m, by adjusting the discharge angle and the distance from the opening, the sealing performance of the air curtain is improved by 13.7%.
