Developing an On-Line Monitoring System for a Forest Hydrological Environment - Development of Hardware - (산림수문환경(山林水文環境) 모니터링을 위(爲)한 원거리(遠距離) 자동관측(自動觀測)시스템의 개발(開發) - 하드웨어를 중심(中心)으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to develop an on-line monitoring system for a forest hydrological environment and its meteorological condition, such as temperature, wind direction and speed, rainfall and water level on V-notch, electrical conductivity(EC), potential of hydrogen(PH) by the motor drive sensor unit and measurement with a single-chip microprocessor as controller. These results are summarized as follows ; 1. The monitoring system consists of a signal process unit, motor drive sensor unit, radio modem unit and power supply. 2. The motor drive sensor unit protects the sensor from swift current or freezing and can constantly maintain fixed water level during measurements. 3. This monitoring system can transfer the data by radio modem. Additionally, this system can monitor hydrological conditions in real time. 4. The hardware was made of several modules with an independent CPU. They can be mounted, removed, repaired and added to. Their function can be changed and expanded. 5. These are the result of an accuracy test, the values of temperature, EC and pH measured within an error range of ${\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$, ${\pm}1{\mu}S$ and ${\pm}0.1pH$ respectively. 6. This monitoring system proved to be able to measure various factors for a forest hydrological environment in various experimental stations.

  • This paper describes a multi channel measurement system which can measure the cellular respiration level in a solution containing cells by using a Clark-type sensor with the solution temperature control unit. The Clark-type sensor can measure the cellular respiration level in the solution because it can measure the reduction current depending on the dissolved oxygen level in the solution. This measurement system was maintained the temperature within ${\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$ of the setting temperature value by on/off control method in order to measure the precise cellular respiration level. The measurement system showed that the applied voltage to the working electrode was very stable(-0.8 V$\pm$ 0.0071 V) by using proportional control method. From the current measurement, the response time and the linearity correlation coefficient were 25 sec and 0.94, respectively, which are very close to the results of the commercial product. Using this system and the fabricated Clarktype sensor, the average ratio of the uncoupled OCR(oxygen consumption rate) to the coupled OCR was 1.35 and this is almost the same as that obtained from a commercial systems.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia, and high poer rate per unit volume. However, position sensor isessential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system, and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigtes the speed control of sensorless SRM. The proposed system consists of position detection circuit, dwell angle controller, digital logic commutator, PI speed controller and 4-phase inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through the experiment.

  • Cooler driver electronics (CDE) for maintaining low temperature of the satellite payload IR sensor consists of a compressor that has a pulsation current load condition when it is operated. This pulsation current produces large voltage fluctuation, which affects both load and regulated bus stability. Thus, CDE power conditioning system consists of a primary bus, infrared power distribution unit for battery charging and protection, reverse current protection diode, and battery, which is used as a buffer. In this study, the operational mode analysis is performed by each part with equivalent impedance modeling verified through system level simulation. From this mode analysis, the safety margin for state of charge and open circuit voltage of the battery is determined for satisfying the minimum operational voltage of the CDE load.

  • Design and experiments of a nondestructive testing system with a solenoid eddy current sensor to inspect deterioration of ASCR-OC (ACSR Outdoor Cross-linked Polyethylene Insulated Wires) usually used in HV overhead distribution lines in domestic areas in presented in this paper. Through corrosion mechanisms and deterioration results for ACSR-OC conductors are examined, it is shown that corrosion may lead to the reduction of the effective cross section area of conductors is proposed. The measurement system consisting of a constant current source with a RF frequency, a signal processing unit and a motor driver/ controller is designed and implemented. This instrument has such capabilities as detecting the sensor output and estimating diameter change of the testing conductors, continuously. As a result, it was verified that such corrosion detector system with an eddy current sensor can be shown good effectiveness for estimating the serious faults due to deterioration in overhead distribution lines and giving an early warming before severe aged conductor may lead to fail.

  • We propose a novel multi-photodiode array (MPDA) based retinal implant IC with on/off stimulation strategy for a visual prosthesis with improved spatial resolution. An active pixel sensor combined with a comparator enables generation of biphasic current pulses when light intensity meets a threshold condition. The threshold is tuned by changing the discharging time of the active pixel sensor for various light intensity environments. A prototype of the 30-channel retinal implant IC was fabricated with a unit pixel area of $0.021mm^2$, and the stimulus level up to $354{\mu}A$ was measured with the threshold ranging from 400 lx to 13120 lx.

ACSR-OC conductor built to pollutants air for a long period would be easily progress to corrode so that it may lead to the reduction of the effective cross section area of conductors. A fault diagnosis system consisting of a solenoid sensor, a constant current source with RF frequency signal processing unit and a motor driver/controller designed and implemented. This instrument can dot the sensor output variation due to deterioration corrosion, continuously. As a result, it was shown such corrosion detector can readily be utilized estimating the diameter change due to deterioration overhead distribution lines and in giving an warning or inform before severe aged conductor lead to fail.

  • Augmented Reality is being widely used not only for Smartphone users but also in industries such as maintenance, construction area. With smartphone, due to the low localization accuracy and the requirement of special infrastructure, current LBS (Localization Based Service) is limited to show P.O.I. (Point of Interest) nearby. Improvement of IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) based deadreckoning is presented in this paper. Additional sensors such as the magnetic compass and magnetic flux sensors are used as well as the accelerometer and the gyro for getting more movement information. Based on the pedestrian movement, appropriate sensor information is selected and the complementary filter is used in order to enhance the accuracy of the localization. Additional sensors are used to measure the movements of the upper body and the head and to provide the user's line of sight.

  • In this paper, brushed servo control system for industrial robot is realized under GUI environment. Brushed servo motor has 400W capacities, 1000ppr optic encoder and electric brake load. Especially, driving unit is composed of full-bridge MOSFET semiconductors with 9540 and 540 FET ICs. Control unit has PIC 16C74 microprocessor[l,2,3], RS-232 communication ports, URD current sensor, and GAL 16R8ACN. Servo control system is controlled by PID control method[5,8] with varying control parameters and load capacities. Brushed servo control systems which are proposed in this raper are applied to industrial robot control system.

  • Underwater vehicles use Inertial Navigation System (INS) with high-performance Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for high precision navigation. However, when underwater navigation is performed for a long time, the INS error gradually diverges, therefore, an integrated navigation method using auxiliary sensors is used to solve this problem. In terms of underwater vehicles, the vertical axis error is primarily compensated through Vertical Channel Damping (VCD) using a depth gauge, and an integrated navigation filter can be designed to perform horizontal axis error and sensor error correction using a speedometer such as Electromagnetic-Log (EM-Log). However, since EM-Log outputs the forward direction relative speed of the vehicle with respect to the sea and sea current, INS correction filter using this may cause a rather large error. Although it is possible to design proper filters if the exact model of the sea current is known, it is impossible to know the accurate model in reality. Therefore, this study proposes an INS/EM-Log integrated navigation filter with the function to estimate sea current using an Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) filters, and the performance of this filter is analyzed through a simulation performed in various environments.
