  • The resent developed high speed train called HEMU-430X (Highspeed Electric Multiple Unit - 430km/h eXperiment) recorded a 421.4 km/h in Kyoungbu high speed line in Korea. A verity of measurement systems are used to check the performance between pantograph and catenary system. An innovative measurement system is adopted to check the current of catenary wire in the track side during HEMU-430X test running. This paper presents the measurement results of catenary current in kyoungbu high-speed line and describe its utilizing technology in the experimental results of catenary current. In order to analyze field testing results, the current ratio between contact and catenary current have been analyzed by means of Carson-Pollaczek equation. And the current wave forms between catenary and contact wire are presented based on the simulation results.

  • The overhead contact line (OCL) is a key piece of equipment for transmitting electrical energy to the pantograph of rail cars. Recently, a 400 km/h OCL was applied to the Honam high-speed line, and its performance was examined by running HEMU-430X. For the study, we analyzed the current of catenary wire concurrently while running HEMU-430X in the Honam high-speed line. Specifically, this study recorded the currents for each speed during operation of the railway vehicle. The analysis of the frequency of line current showed generation of third-harmonics, 15th-harmonics, 17th-harmonics, and 19th-harmonics. The current of catenary wire is a basic technology assessment used to determine the electrical safety of electric railway systems, and it can be used as a technology for analyzing circulating currents generated in the current configuration, as well as for analyzing electric fatigue of the OCL components.

  • In this paper, analysis method for current collection performance based on real-time current of catenary system is proposed. An innovative method based on track-side of railway system is used for measurement of currents for overhead contact line during the collection with pantograph. The evaluation of a qualitative ratio for current collection performance were conducted using proposed algorithm under various conditions such as laboratory and track-side. To check the validity of our approach, we compared between calculation results from current of contact wire and measurement results from arcing of pantograph using simulator in laboratory conditions. The results show that the behavior of current collection performance were analysis from currents of overhead contact line in AC electric railway system.

  • It is necessary to perform a study on the interrace between a G7 pantograph and a KTX catenary system prior to G7 on-line tests in the Korea High Speed Test Track in order to predict how high current collection quality can be obtained during the on-line tests and check if safety problems shall be caused b)Y the tests or not. According to the simulation results, current collection quality of the G7 pantograph at 350km/h is lower than that of a GPU pantograph at 300km/h, but the contact wire uplifts and average contact forces are within the safe-zone. In addition, the ratio of running speed (350km/h) to safe running. Therefore, the G7 on-line tests at 350km/h in the Korea High Speed Test Track is expected not to cause the safety problem.
