  • A three-dimensional beach evolution model was presented to predict morphodynamics around a river mouth. The presented model was based on the depth-averaged (2DH) and quasi three-dimensional (Q-3D) nearshore current modules, and the model took into account shoreline changes, the effect of advection diffusion of suspended load and discharged sediments from the river. First, the 3D beach evolution model was applied to the formation of sand spits and terrace at the river mouth in order to investigate the performance of the model. Secondly, the model was applied to the river mouth at the Ara River, facing the Sea of Japan. The formation of sand spit at the Ara River in winter season was reproduced. The computed result showed qualitatively agreement with field site observation.

  • Recently the interest in permanent magnet alternating motor using for electric compressor become great. Especially the research on Interior Permanent Magnet Motor has been doing actively for its advantages in the energy density and the efficiency. In order to control the output of motor to the desired value, the current control or speed control of motor are required. The accurate detection of rotor position and speed information are necessary for the control of motor. In general, the encoder, hall sensor, and resolver are used to obtain the information of motor position and speed and the speed detection algorithm, M/T method, is applied. However, the M/T method causes the error depending on rotor speed. Therefore, this M/T speed detection method is not perfect. In this paper, it is proposed that the PI control with a 1st transfer function and the integration element between velocity and position are composed in series and this feeds back to the reference value of position angle. The proposed algorithm is a function of the integral elements 2nd term, speed element, is used as an output. Thus, it is possible to detect the correct speed by configuring like the mechanical structure similarly. The proposed algorithm is verified by using PSIM DLL and is applied to the BLAC motor drive. And also it is confirmed that this system estimates the accurate speed regardless of rotor speed changes. As a example, the experimental results and simulations shows that the proposed method is very effective.

  • Background: The public health care system of a country is shaped and driven by its historical background as well as social, economic, and cultural structures. This study sheds light on the unique features, strengths, and weaknesses of the health insurance systems of South Korea (Korea) and Peru. Methods: The capacity mapping tool was used to explore the Korean and Peruvian population and geographical structures; health insurance laws, regulations, and policies; payment systems; eligibility and contribution collection; and long-term care insurance. Results: The study found that the Korean government took the lead in integrating multiple insurers into a single-payer system in an effort to reinforce and stabilize its health insurance system in 2000. Peru has been developed mixed model such based on taxes and contributions, to address a gap between different social classes. Peruvian government developed a two-axis system, one for low-income earners, financed by taxes, and another financed by contributions paid by workers and government officials in the formal sector. Peru has introduced many variations to its fee payment and insurer systems, target population, and coverage scope, and maintains its health insurance system accordingly to this day. Conclusion: The current study provides observation of the Health Insurance System in two different countries and helps to understand possible ways to improve the health insurance system in both countries. Based on this study, Peru will be able to see how its system differs from Korea's and benefit from the related policy implications.

  • Community centers have been public facilities for the welfare and conveniences for the residents since 1999. Currently, the numbers of community centers meet the demands in quantity, but they do not satisfy the quality service needs for the improved life style of residents and the activation of local community. Therefore, the purposes of this research are to find out the current status, types and characters of facilities for the quality improvement of community centers. As the research methods, 'home pages of community centers', 'gujung backseo' were used, and '40 case studies' were completed. Case studies were done by observation and research on the actual conditions. The case works were done between July- September in 2008. Followings are the results of the study; 1. Area measurements of the community centers are being increased since 2000. 2. Complex facility types of community centers are mainly public administrative facilities (community center)+public administrative facilities of mixed type. 3. There are three architectural types of community centers: horizontal type, vertical type, mixed type. 4. There are three classified entrance types for the community centers. 5. There are twelve classified facility types for the community centers. Community centers are usually mixed with diverse facilities, especially welfare facilities and cultural facilities. Proper community center types which contain the functional characters and varieties of facilities should be developed, and these active centers should be used conveniently by residents, thus, further study is required in this regard.

  • Children who underwent reparative operations for esophageal atresia (EA) with or without tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF), are confronted with many gastrointestinal or respiratory problems, especially during the early years of life. We reviewed the medical records of 50 patients who underwent repairs of EA with or without TEF at the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Samsung Medical Center, from December 1994 to December 2005. Current status of children was accessed by telephone-interview, but only 27 of them were accessible. Of 50 patients, 3 patients (6 %) were type A, 45 patients (90 %) were type C, and 2 patients (4 %) were type E. The mean interval between primary operation and interview was 5.5 years. The incidences of growth retardation (<10 percentile of height/weight) were 39 % and 21 % during the first 5 years after repairs, respectively. The incidences of dysphagia or gastroesophageal reflux and recurrent respiratory infections were 33 % and 39 %, respectively. However, these problems were likely to improve as the children grew. The incidences of growth retardations (<10 percentile of height/weight) were 11 % and 11 % for the children more than five years postoperative. The incidences of dysphagia or gastroesophageal reflux and recurrent respiratory infections were 22 % and 22 %, respectively. Children with EA with or without TEF are faced with many obstacles. Close observation and adequate treatment for delayed postoperative complications are necessary to improve the quality of life for these children.

  • Recent observations by Hinode show weakly-attenuated coronal loop oscillations in the presence of background flow (Ofman & Wang 2008, A&A, 482, L9). We study the vertical kink oscillations in solar coronal loops, considering field aligned flows inside the loops as well as surrounding the loops environment. The two dimensional numerical model of straight slab is used to explore the excitation and attenuation of the impulsively triggered fast magnetosonic standing kink waves. A full set of time dependent ideal magnetohydrodynamics equations is solved numerically taking into account the value of flow of the order of observed flows detected by SOT/Hinode. We find that relaxing the assumption of the limited flows within the loops enhances the damping rate of the fundamental mode of the standing kink waves by 2 - 3 % as compared to flow pattern which is basically localized within the loops. We further notice that extending the flow pattern beyond the loop thickness also enhances the strength of the shock associated with slow magnetoacoustic waves, recognized as an addition feature detected in the numerical simulation. The wider out-flow pattern destroys the oscillation patterns early as compared to narrower flow pattern, in other words we can say that it affects the durability of the oscillation. However, for the typical coronal loops parameters we find that the observed durability periods of the SOT/Hinode observation can be achieved with an out-flow Gaussian patterns for which half-width is not greater than factor 2.0 of the loop-half-width. explain a possible relation between electric current structure and sigmoid observed in a preflare phase.

  • The SPICA (SPace Infrared Telescope for Cosmology & Astrophysics) project is a next-generation infrared space telescope optimized for mid- and far-infrared observation with a cryogenically cooled 3m-class telescope. Owing to unique capability of focal plane instruments onboard SPICA, it will enable us to resolve many astronomical key issues from the star-formation history of the universe to the planetary formation. The FPC (Focal Plane Camera) is a Korean-led near-infrared instrument as an international collaboration. Korean consortium for FPC proposed a key instrument responsible for a fine guiding (FPC-G). The back-up of FPC-G will make scientific observations as well. We have examined the legacy science programs for FPC and performed the feasibility study for the fine guiding system. Recently, the international review process is now in progress, in order to make a selection of the focal plane instruments. Here, we report the current status of SPICA/FPC project.

  • Underwater ambient noise was measured at the eastern and western costal sites of Jeju Island where the water depth was 20 m by a hydrophone moored at mid-depth (10 m) for 4 months. These eastern and western sites were selected as potential sites for offshore wind power generator and the current wave energy generator, respectively. Ambient noise was affected by environmental data such as wind and wave, which were collected from nearby weather stations and an observation station. Below 100 Hz, ambient noise was changed about 5 dB ~ 20 dB due to low and high tide. Below 1 kHz, wave and wind effects were the main source for ambient noise, varying up to 25 dB. Ambient noise was strongly influenced by wave at lower frequency and by wind at higher frequency up to over 1 kHz. The higher frequency range over 10 kHz was influenced by rainfall and biological sources, and the spectrum was measured about 10 dB higher than the peak spectrum level from Wenz curve at this frequency range.
