PV (Photovoltaic) power generation system has been widely studied as a clean and renewable power source. Tracking the MPP (maximum power point) of a PV array is usually an essential part of a PV system. This paper describes POS (Photovoltaic Output Sensorless) MPPT method and optimization technique of its operational characteristics for grid-connected PV generation system. A DC-DC converter has been used to step-up the PV voltage and DC-AC converter has been used for connecting the system to the grid. Optimization technique has been implemented to optimize the current and voltage controller gain parameters and duty ratio increment of DC-DC converter. Simulation results reveal that the proposed control has better response.
This study presents a new methodology for realtime tool breakage detection by sensor fusion concept of two hall sensor and an acoustic emission (AE) sensor. Spindle induction motor torque of CNC Lathe during machining is estimated by two hall sensor. Estimated motor torque instead of a tool dynamometer was used to measure the cutting torque and tool breakage detection. A burst of AE signal was used as a triggering signal to inspect the cutting torque. A significant drop of cutting torque was utilized to detect tool breakage. The algorithm was implemented on a NI DAQ (Data Acquisition) board for in-process tool breakage detection. The result of experiment showed an excellent monitoring capability of the proposed tool breakage detection system. This system is available tool breakage monitoring through internet also provides this system's user with current cutting torque of induction motor.

Optimization method for the open loop commutation time intervals in HDD spindle start-up control is presented in this paper. A hard disk drive(HDD) uses a sensorless brushless DC motor(BLDC) for the platter rotation. Because there is no direct sensor for the rotor position, open loop commutations after sensing the rotor position at a standstill using inductive sensing method are performed to speed up the rotor up to a certain speed where the zero crossings of the back electromotive force(EMF) are measurable. Therefore successful open loop commutations are necessary for the stable start-up control of the spindle motors. Random neighborhood search(RNS) algorithm is introduced as a optimization technic in this paper. Rotor speed and its standard deviation are used as a cost function and commutation intervals obtained from the spindle motion equation are used as initial parameter values for the RNS. With the help of the proposed method optimized open loop commutation time intervals for the very low start-up current are acquired and tested. The experimental results shows that the proposed method can decrease the start-up failure rate of a HDD spindle motor.
For the speed control of motors, the position or speed sensors are necessary to obtain the position information of the rotor. Specially, SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) needs an accurate rotor position data because both the rotor and the stator have a salient pole structure. High functional sensors like resolver or encoder are expensive and have complex connecting lines to the controller so the pure signals are apt to be mixed with noised. In the sight of SRM drives, the high temperature, heavy dust, and the EMI surroundings reduce the reliability of speed and position sensors. Therefore, the speed and position sensorless control algorithms using observer have been accepted widely. In this paper An adaptive sliding observer is described to control the SRM without speed or position sensors. The adaptive sliding observer is set on the basis of variable structure control theory. The sliding surface is constructed by current error terms and this surface guarantees the errors converge to "zero". The stability of observer is affirmed by Lyapunov stability analysis and popov's hyper stability theory.ty theory.

The paper describes a robust adaptive control algorithm for induction motor drive without speed sensor at low speed range. The control algorithm use only current sensors in a space vector pulse width modulation within loop control with rotor speed estimation and voltage source inverter. On-line rotor speed estimation is based on utilizing parallel model reference adaptive control system. MRAC of the modified flux model for flux and rotor speed estimator uses dual-adaptation mechanism, ${\omega}_r$ and ${\omega}_e$ scheme. The estimated flux components in the model can be compensated from the effects of offset errors on pure integrals. It can be compensated to the parameter variations and torque fluctuation with speed estimation in less then 10 rad/sec. In a simulation, the proposed induction motor control algorithm without speed sensor at very low speed range are shown to operate very well in spite of variable rotor time constant and fluctuating load without change the controller parameters. The suggested control strategy and estimation method have been validated by simulation study, and it proposed the designed system for the implementation using TI320C31 DSP/ASIC controller.

A new method of induction motor drive, which requires not shaft encoder, is presented. This system has both torque and speed controls that are performed by vector control. The scheme is on the basis of a rotor flux speed control, which is performed by torque producing current and rotor flux, derived from the stator voltages and currents. But, there is a problem with respect to the calculated rotor flux vector, which is an integrating operation by which the rotor induced voltage is converted into the rotor flux. The calculated rotor flux does not work so that it is unstable in initial operation, as motor speed approaches zero. For the proposed rotor flux estimator, a lag circuit is employed, to which both the motor-induced voltage and rotor flux command are imposed, and it is possible to calculate even a low frequency down to standstill. We show the validity of the proposed control method through several computer simulations.

In this paper, a closed-loop sensorless stroke control system for a linear compressor has been designed. In order to estimate the piston position accurately, motor parameters are identified as a function of the piston position and the motor current. These parameters are stored in ROM table and used later for the accurate estimation of piston position. The identified motor parameters are approximated to the several surface functions in order to decrease memory size. They can also be divided into 2 or 4 subsections to decrease identification errors. The effect of the order of surface functions and division of subsections on identification errors and computation time is analyzed.

Difficulty of torque measurements in high-speed permanent magnet (HSPM) motors has necessitated the development of improved torque calculations. Hence, this paper presents an analytical torque calculation of a high speed permanent magnet (HSPM) motor based on the power factor angle. On the basis of analytical magnetic field solutions, the equations for circuit parameters such as back-emf and synchronous inductance are derived analytically. All analytical results are validated extensively by non-linear finite element (FE) calculations and measurements. The internal angle (${\delta}$) between the back-emf and the phase current is calculated according to the rotor speed by using analytical circuit parameters and the measured power factor because this angle is not measured but estimated in case of sensorless drive of the HSPM motor, significantly affecting torque calculation. Finally, the validity of the torque analysis method proposed in this paper is confirmed, by showing that the torque calculated on the basis of the internal angle is in better agreement with the measurements.

When the vector control, which does not need a speed signal from a mechanical speed sensor, it is possible to reduce the cost of the control equipment and to improve the control performance in many industrial application. This paper describes a rotor speed identification method of induction motor based on the theory of flux model reference adaptive system. The estimator execute the rotor speed identification so that the vector control of the induction motor may be achieved. The improved auxiliary variable of the two model are introduced In perform accurate rotor speed estimation. The control system is composed of the PI controller for speed control and current controller using space voltage vector PWM technique. High speed calculation and processing for vector control is carried out by TMS320C31 digital signal processor. Validity of the proposed control method is verified through simulation and experimental result.
A novel inverter fault-tolerant control scheme is proposed to drive brushless DC motor. A fault-tolerant inverter and its three fault-tolerant schemes (i.e., phase A fault-tolerant, phase B fault-tolerant, and phase C fault-tolerant) are analyzed. Eight voltage vectors are summarized and a voltage vector selection table is used in the control scheme to improve the midpoint current of the split capacitors. A stator flux observer is proposed. The observer can improve flux estimation, which does not require any speed adaptation mechanism and is immune to speed estimation error. Global stability of the flux observer is guaranteed by the Lyapunov stability analysis. A novel stator resistance estimator is incorporated into the sensorless drive to compensate for the effects of stator resistance variation. DC offset effects are mitigated by introducing an integral component in the observer gains. Finally, a control system based on the control scheme is established. Simulation and experiment results show that the method is correct and feasible.
