  • The studies were carried out to investigate the occurrence of excessive dried leaves during burley tobacco curing. Six different periods of ventilation during the entire stage of curing were applied. And also 3 different heights of rolling up polyethlene film for side ventilation of the curing house combined with 4 different spaces between garlands were applied from after yellowing. The high air temperature and low relative humidity from end of yellowing to end of browning stage were the most critical to occur excessive dried \eaves. As side ventilation was continued for the entire stage of curing, air temperature in curing house was lower and occurrence of excessive dried leaves were remarkably decreased. The air temperature was not affected on hanging spaces, but relative humidity that resulted significantly in decreasing of the excessive dried leaves was increased by narrowing of hanging spaces. As excessive dried leaves were increased, its price per kg was lower, its physical properties was worse and its total nitrogen and total suger were higher than those of normal cured leaves.

  • In the work, the carbonation behavior and strength characteristics in cold-joint concrete are evaluated for OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and GGBFS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag)concrete considering three levels of curing age (28, 91 and 365 days). The compressive strength in GGBFS concrete is level of 86% of OPC concrete at the 91 days of curing period, but is level of 107% at 365 curing days due to hydration reaction. Carbonation velocities in both OPC and GGBFS concrete significantly decease after 91 curing days. The effect of cold joint on carbonation is evaluated to be small in GGBFS concrete. The increasing ratios of carbonation velocity in cold joint are 1.06 and 1.33 for 28-day and 365-day curing condition, respectively. However they decreases to 1.08 and 1.04 for GGBFS concrete for the same curing conditions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of step-curing mode on polymerization shrinkage and contraction of composite resin restoration. Class I cavities were prepared on the extracted human premolars. The cavities were ailed with Filtek $Z-250^{TM}$ (hybrid resin, 3M ESPE, USA) and Filtek $flow^{TM}$ (flowable resin, 3M ESPE, USA) and cured with one of the following irradiation modes; Halogen 40sec with continuous curing, LED 10sec with continuous curing, and LED 13sec with step-curing. Contraction stress was measured with strain gauge which was connected to TML $Datalogger^{TM}$ (TDS-102, SOKKI, Japan) and resin-dentin interfaces were observed by scanning electron microscope. The results of present study can be summarized as follows : 1. Composite resin restoration showed transient expansion just after irradiation of curing light. Contraction stress was increased rapidly at the early phase of polymerization and reduced slowly as time elapsed (P<0.05) 2. $Filtek\;flow^{TM}$ showed lower contraction stress than Filtek $Z-250^{TM}$ regardless of curing modes. 3. LED step-curing mode showed lowest contraction stress in Filtek $Z-250^{TM}$ compared with other curing modes(P<0.05). 4. LED step-curing mode showed lowest contraction stress in $Filtek\;flow^{TM}$ compared with other curing modes(P<0.05), but difference in contraction stress was not so greate as in $Filtek\;Z-250^{TM}$. 5. Polymerization of composite resin by LED light with step-curing mode and halogen light with continuous ode resulted in better marginal sealing than LED light with continuous mode.

  • This study was designed to evaluate the effect of processing method and surface design on the transverse strength of repaired denture base resin. Three heat-cured denture base resins(Vertex, Lucitone, Lang), one cold-cured resin(Lang), and one light-cured resin(Dentacolor gingiva material) were used for repair purpose. The specimens for 3-point flexure test were fabricated by five processing methods such as self-curing, pressure pot, boiling water, processing, and light curing. Finally to evaluate the effect of surface designs for repaired resin, three surface designs(butt, bevel, inverse bevel) were tested. Within the limit of this study, following conclusions were drawn. 1. Lucitone denture base material showed highest flexural strength of $131.37{\pm}2.15MPa$, and there were significant differences in stength between Lucitone and other resins. 2. Between two different self curing methods, self curing repair resin, Lang, cured by pressure pot method showed highest flexural strength, $58.49{\pm}4.89MPa$. 3. Among the heat cured repair resins, maximum transverse strength value of $88.69{\pm}16.60MPa$ was recorded in Lucitone group cured by processing method. 4. Inverse bevel joint design showed significantly higher bond strength than butt joint group, Maximum bond strength was $59.36{\pm}1.33MPa$ in inverse bevel joint design group.

  • The pH of cement-based materials (CBMs) is an important factor for their durability, sustainability, and long service life. Currently, the use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) is becoming mandatory due to economic, environmental, and sustainable issues. There is a decreasing trend in pH of CBMs due to incorporation of SCMs. The determination of numerical values of pH is very important for various low and high volume SCMs blended cement mortars for the better understanding of different defects and durability issues during their service life. In addition, the effect of cement hydration and pozzolanic reaction of SCMs on the pH should be determined at initial and later ages. In this study, the effect of low and high-volume fly ash (FA) and ground granulated ballast furnace slag (GGBFS) cement mortars in different curing conditions on their pH values has been determined. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) was carried out to support the findings from pH measurements. In addition, thermal conductivity (k-value) and strength activity indices of these cement mortars were discussed. The results showed that pH values of all blended cement mortars were less than ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortar in all curing conditions used. There was a decreasing tendency in pH of all mortars with passage of time. In addition, the pH of cement mortars was not only dependent on the quantity of Ca(OH)2. The effect of adding SCMs on the pH value of cement mortar should be monitored and measured for both short and long terms.

  • The Korean Dendropanax lacquer, made from a natural resinous sap from Dendropanax orbifera Lev., was used as a golden and transparent varnish for the traditional artifacts (armor uits, helmets, arrowheads, etc.) to make them be brilliant golden color. The cured film of the acquer has excellent protective properties such as weatherability, water resistance, and nticorrosive. But, one of disadvantages is that takes a long time and much energy to fulfill curing the lacquer. The chemical constituents of the lacquer contained conjugated diene compounds s the photopolymerizable monomers. These monomers easily polymerized in sunlight to form olden-colored, hard-coating films in a short time. Photooxidation may be one of the most mportant reactions in the chemistry of the lacquer. Although the Korean Dendropanax Lacquer hould be dried to a thoroughly dry stage to achieve optimal film properties, curing with elevated emperatures may be required for the protracted curing time at atmospheric temperature. So we ntended to accelerate the curing rate of the lacquer by dual curing of thermal and radiation uring. The effect of thermal initiator on the thermal curing reaction was evaluated by monitoring he changes in double bond peak with FT-IR. Then the curing rate of the lacquer blended with hermal initiator and photoinitiator together was measured during dual curing using a RPT with V spot curing machine. Thermal initiator not only accelerated the curing rate but also improved he physical property. And the curing rate of the Korean Dendropanax lacquer was improved by ual curing method of thermal and UV curing. According to these results, the application area of he Korean Dendropanax lacquer could be expanded to surface coatings for electronic devices uch as mobile phones or electronics.

  • The Tunnel Form(T/F) system instead of traditional euro form has been tried to reduce construction duration and to improve concrete quality in reinforced concrete wall type apartment construction. To find the relationship for concrete compressive strength between cylinder mold and slab, the different curing locations of concrete cylinder mold in the room have been investigated. The test results showed that the compressive strength of the cylinder concrete with middle-upper location in the room was most near concrete compression strength with respect to slab concrete strength.
