  • Various factors affecting the teachability of Cs-137 in cement matrix have been investigated. Factors investigated include such as pressure curing, vibration curing, pressure leaching, the effect of the clay addition, ion-exchange resin(IRN-77) addition, and $CO_2$or air injection. Leaching experiments were conducted by the method recommended by IAEA. To analyze the experimental results, pore structure analysis of cement matrices was carried out by BET method. Cement matrices may not contact directly with underground water in real repository, since the surroundings of disposed drums are filled with backfill. Thus, the effect of backfill to the teachability has been investigated. The well-known diffusion theory was utilized to predict long term leach rate and cumulative fraction leached of Cs-137 or non-radioactive species.

  • Physical properties of composite resins such as strength, resistance to wear, discoloration, etc depend on the degree of conversion of the resin components. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of conversion of the composite resins according to the thickness of tooth structure penetrated by light and applied light curing time. The coronal portions of extracted human teeth (one anterior tooth, three posterior tooth) was embedded by pink denture material. the mounted teeth were cut into three illumination sections (1mm thickness enamel section, 1mm thickness dentin section, 2mm thicknes dentin section) and one backing section with cutting wheel. Thin resin films were made by using 6kg pressure between slide glass during 5 minutes Thin resin film was light cured on coupled illumination section during 40sec, 80sec and 120sec. each illumination section was coupled as follows; no tooth structure(X), ename section(E), enamel section + 1mm dentin section(ED1), enamel section + 2mm dentin section(ED2), enamel section + 1mm dentin section + 2mm dentin section(EDD). To simulate the clinical situation more closely, thin resin films was cured against a backing section of tooth structure. The degree of conversion of carbon double bonds to single bonds in the resin films were examined by means of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer. The results were obtained as follows ; 1 As curing time was increased, conversion rate was increased and as tooth thickness which was penetrated by curing light was increased, conversion rate was decreased. 2. At all tooth thickness groups, conversion rate between 80sec and 120sec was not significantly increased(P>0.05). 3. At 40sec group and 80sec, conversion rate between no tooth structure(X) group and 1mm enamel section(E) group was not significantly decreased(P>0.05). 4. At 80sec group and 120sec, conversion rate between 1mm enamel section(E) group and 1mm enamel section + 1mm dentin section(ED1) group was not significantly decreased(P>0.05).

  • Resin transfer molding (RTM) is a mass production process that allows the fabrication of composites ranging in size from small to large. Recently, fast curing resins with a curing time of less than about 10 minutes have been used in the automotive and aerospace industries. The viscosity of resin is bound up with the degree of cure, and it can be changed rapidly in the fast-cure resin system during the mold filling process. Therefore, it is advantageous to experimentally measure and evaluate the degree of cure because it requires much effort to predict the flow characteristics and cure of the fast curing resin. DMA and dielectric technique are the typical methods to measure the degree of cure of composite materials. In this paper, the resin flow and degree of cure were measured through the multi-channel dielectric system. A total of 8 channels of dielectric sensors were used and resin flow and degree of cure were measured and compared with each other under various pressure conditions.

Color Developing Capacity of Plasma-treated Water as a Source of Nitrite for Meat Curing

  • The interaction of plasma with liquid generates nitrogen species including nitrite (NO2). Therefore, the color developing capacity of plasma-treated water (PTW) as a nitrite source for meat curing was investigated in this study. PTW, which is generated by surface dielectric barrier discharge in air, and the increase of plasma treatment time resulted in increase of nitrite concentration in PTW. The PTW used in this study contains 46 ppm nitrite after plasma treatment for 30 min. To evaluate the effect of PTW on the cured meat color, meat batters were prepared under three different conditions (control, non-cured meat batter; PTW, meat batter cured with PTW; Sodium nitrite, meat batter cured with sodium nitrite). The meat batters were vacuum-packaged and cooked in a water-bath at 80℃ for 30 min. The typical color of cured meat developed in cooked meat batter treated with sodium nitrite or PTW. The lightness (L*) and yellowness (b*) values were similar in all conditions, whereas, the redness (a*) values of cooked meat batter with PTW and sodium nitrite (p<0.05) were significantly higher than the control. These data indicate that PTW can be used as a nitrite source in the curing process of meat without addition of other nitrite sources.

  • In order to develop the ultra high strength concrete over 400Mpa at 28 day, Low-heat portland cement, ferro-silicon, silica-fume and steel fiber were mixed and tested under the special autoclave curing conditions. Considering the influence of Ultra high strength concrete. normal concrete is used as a comparison with low water-cement ratio possible Low-heat portland cement. Additionally, as a substitution of aggregates, we analyzed the compressive strength of Ferro Silicon by making the states of mixed and curing conditions differently. In addition, SEM films testified the development of C-S-H hydrates of Type III & Type IV, and tobermolite, zonolite due to the high temperature, high pressure of autoclave curing. Fineness of aggregate, filler and reactive materials in concrete caused 420Mpa compressive strength at 28day successfully.

Fundamental Study on Geotechnical Properties of Sand-Bentonite Mixtures (모래-벤토나이트 혼합물의 지반 공학적특성에 관한 기초 연구)

  • The study was conducted in order to investigate the basic geotechnical properties of sand-bentonite mixtures with the various bentonite contents. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Optimum moisture content of sand-bentonite mixtures was approximately 17.10~18.52% corresponding to the maximum dry density of 1.58~1 .64gf/$cm^3$. As the bentonite contents and curing peroid increased, both the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of sand-bentonite mixtures increased. 2. The unconfined compressive strength of sand-bentonite mixtures increased as the increase of bentonite content, but it did not change along the curing period. 3. The sand-bentonite mixtures ruptured at 8~15% of the axial strain and the maxi-mum shearing stress was about O.7Okgf/$cm^2$. 4. According to the increase of bentonite content, the cohesion intercept and internal friction of the sand-bentonite mixtures increased slightly in the shear test, while the cohesion intercept increased largely, and the internal friction angle decreased largely in the triaxial test. 5. Both the initial void ratio and swelling of the sand-bentonite mixtures were very low with respect to the consolidation pressure increase. 6. The swelling and shrinkage of sand-bentonite mixtures increased slightly according to the increment of bentonite content.

Thermal Curing and Electrical Properties of Epoxy/Graphite/Expanded Graphite Composite for Bipolar Plate of Pemfc (PEMFC 바이폴라 플레이트 제조용 EPOXY/GRAPHITE/EXPANDED GRAPHITE 복합재료의 열경화 및 전기적 성질)

  • Epoxy/graphite/expanded graphite composites have been prepared in various weight ratios and thermal degradation and electrical properties were estimated in order to use for the bipolar plate materials in PEMFC. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the epoxy/graphite system cured by a curing agent GX-533 was most proper because its weight loss until $80^{\circ}C$ at which PEMFC would be operated was 0.3 wt%, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis showed its cure temperature would be sufficient at $80^{\circ}C$. The activation energy for the cure reaction was 132.0 kJ/mol and the pre-exponential factor was $1.76{\times}10^{17}min^{-1}$. Electrical conductivity on the surface of the bipolar plate prepared under a pressure of 200 $kgf/cm^2$ was increased from 4 to 25 $S/cm^2$ by increasing expanded graphite (EG) content from 50 phr to 90 phr. The percolation threshold was initiated around 75 phr and the corrosion rate at 80 phr was 1.903 $uA/cm^2$.

  • The main challenge in many applications of acetic acid is acid dehydration and its recovery from wastewater streams. Therefore, the performance of polyamide thin film composite is evaluated to separate acetic acid from water. To reach this goal, the formation of polyamide layer on polysulfone support membrane was investigated via interfacial polymerization (IP) of meta-phenylenediamine (MPD) in water with trimesoyl chloride (TMC) in hexane. Also, the effect of synthesis conditions, such as concentration of monomers and curing temperature on separation of acetic acid from water were investigated by reverse osmosis process. Moreover, the separation mechanism was discussed. The solute permeation was carried out under applied pressure of 5 bar at $25^{\circ}C$. Surface properties of TFC membrane were characterized by ATR-FTIR, SEM and AFM. The performance test indicated that 3.5 wt% of MPD, 0.35 wt% of TMC and curing temperature of $75^{\circ}C$ are the optimum conditions. Moreover, the permeate flux was $4.3{\frac{L}{m^2\;h}}$ and acetic acid rejection was about 43% at these conditions.

Development of Semiconductor Packaging Technology using Dicing Die Attach Film

  • Advanced packaging demands are driven by the need for dense integration systems. Consequently, stacked packaging technology has been proposed instead of reducing the ultra-fine patterns to secure economic feasibility. This study proposed an effective packaging process technology for semiconductor devices using a 9-inch dicing die attach film (DDAF), wherein the die attach and dicing films were combined. The process involved three steps: tape lamination, dicing, and bonding. Following the grinding of a silicon wafer, the tape lamination process was conducted, and the DDAF was arranged. Subsequently, a silicon wafer attached to the DDAF was separated into dies employing a blade dicing process with a two-step cut. Thereafter, one separated die was bonded with the other die as a substrate at 130 ℃ for 2 s under a pressure of 2 kgf and the chip was hardened at 120 ℃ for 30 min under a pressure of 10 kPa to remove air bubbles within the DAF. Finally, a curing process was conducted at 175 ℃ for 2 h at atmospheric pressure. Upon completing the manufacturing processes, external inspections, cross-sectional analyses, and thermal stability evaluations were conducted to confirm the optimality of the proposed technology for application of the DDAF. In particular, the shear strength test was evaluated to obtain an average of 9,905 Pa from 17 samples. Consequently, a 3D integration packaging process using DDAF is expected to be utilized as an advanced packaging technology with high reliability.

An Experimental Study on Mechanical Properties of Ultra-High Strength Powder Concrete (압축강도 300MPa 이상의 초고강도 분체콘크리트 개발을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, ordinary Portland cement was used and the air void was minimized by using minute quartz as the filler. In addition, steel fibers were used to mitigate the brittle failure problem associated with high strength concrete. This study is in progress to make an Ultra-high strength powdered concrete (UHSPC) which has compressive strength over 300 MPa. To increase the strength of concrete, we have compared and analyzed the compressive strengths of the concretes with different mix proportions and curing conditions by selecting quartz sand, dolomite, bauxite, ferro silicon which have diameters less than 0.6 mm and can increase the bond strength of the transition zone. Ultra-high strength powdered concrete, which is different from conventional concrete, is highly influenced by the materials in the mix. In the study, the highest compressive strength of the powdered concrete was obtained when it is prepared with ferro silicon, followed in order by Bauxite, Dolomite, and Quartz sand. The amount of ferro silicon, when the highest strength was obtained, was 110%, of the weight of the cement. SEM analysis of the UHSPC showed that significant formation of C-S-H and Tobermorite due to high temperature and pressure curing. Production of Ultrahigh strength powdered concrete which has 28-day compressive strength upto 341MPa has been successfully achieved by the following factors; steel fiber reinforcement, fine particled aggregates, and the filling powder to minimize the void space, and the reactive materials.
