This paper explores the characteristics of curated news content. With content analysis of 1020 news clips, the study found that news values immersed in card news differed from those of traditional news. Specifically, timeliness was not regarded as a key factor in newsworthiness. Rather, information and social impacts were highly emphasized. Considering news consumers depend on traditional news for timely news, curated news content was not a replacement for traditional news but a supplement. By refurbishing photos from previous news reports and googling the web for related information, curated news reiterates social meaning and provides relevant information. Furthermore, salience of human interest can be explained by entertaining characteristics of curated news. In story forms, the list technique has several important points to stress, and was more frequently used than inverted pyramids. Another key finding of this study is man-on-the street as the most quoted main sources in the curatorial context.

The antibacterial and insecticidal properties of ethanol extracts and volatile components extracted from Eugenia caryophyllata, Boswellia carterii, Agastache rugosa, Aristolochia contorta, and Aquilaria agallocha were evaluated. The ethanol extract and volatile component of E. caryophyllata showed strong antimicrobial effect against all strains (Mucor hiemalis, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium funiculosum, Trichoderma viride) and the volatile component of B. carterii showed antimicrobial effect against all strains except T. viride. The ethanol extract of E. caryophyllata and A. contorta showed $100\%\;and\;32\%$ mortality against Reticulitemes spertus kyushuensis Morimoto for 48 hours and 72 hours, respectively. In the case of volatile component, E. aryophyllata showed $100\%\;and\;20\%$ mortality against R. spertus and Lyctus linearis GOZE, respectively. The main constitute, eugenol $(92\%)$ among nine components from volatile component of E. aryophyllata were identified as antibacterial active substance.

'Eojin', king's portraits, had been produced during the Joseon dynasty. The portrait of King Taejo, the founder of the Joseon dynasty, remain at National Palace Museum of Korea and Gyeonggijeon portrait hall in Jeonju and Junwonjeon portrait hall in North Korea that has been recorded in original glass plate photo in 1911. Many replica of Eojin have been made since it is important to preserve and protect original one. In this study, the portrait of King Taejo, which is possessed by National Palace Museum of Korea, was researched for making replication standard version of the original form. It was focused on derivations of each artefacts and drawing lines those had been described on the picture including comparison among three portraits of King Taejo. Producing the replication standard version of King Taejo's portrait, the digital restoration techniques by the method of partition area scanning was applied. Accurate and precise detail result that is taken by digital imaging technique gives additional information regarding the relations among three portraits of King Taejo.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the wood species of the stern plank and persimmon seed from Daebudo shipwreck No.2 excavated from Daebudo, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, and Gyeonggi-do by wiggle-matching of radiocarbon measurements. Results of the analysis showed that all the wooden boards of the hull were made from Pinus Hard Pine Group. The other parts of hull and wooden pegs were made from Pinus Hard Pine Group, Castanea spp., Quercus spp. sect. Lepidobalanus, Alnus spp., and Zelkova serrata Makino. Excavated wide-tooth wooden comb and fine-tooth bamboo comb were made from Acer spp. and Bambusoideae. Excavated rope was made from Pueraria thunbergiana Benth. The stern plank, wooden support, and persimmon stone showed ${\pm}2{\sigma}$ radiocarbon date(95.4% confidence interval) of AD 1151-1224. This indicated that the Daebudo shipwreck No.2 occurred during the early or middle 12-13th century. Our radiocarbon dating results confirmed the date speculated by archeologists based on the ceramic style.

This paper considers the research content and its historical significance of the Study of Nature conducted by John Ruskin(1819-1900) who had a profound influence on art, architecture, social reformation, and preservation of natural environment in Great Britain. Because Ruskin's Study of Nature would be the key to understand totally the implicative meaning of his various academic trials for integrating a wider contexts among human, culture, and society, without being bound by the rules of conventional disciplines. For Ruskin, 'Nature' is defined as 'a system' governing every aspects of human and non-human beings, formulating certain laws of composition. This system has an ecological quality to form a state of harmony by internal interaction and process. Such organic quality of nature worked as 'a metaphor' in Ruskin's research practices. Therefore, Ruskin's Study of Nature would be the conceptual basis for organizing and connecting its various elements of Ruskin's spiritual world.

The evaluation of art has been historically based on the thorough reliance on the subjectivity of beholders due to the fact that the production and appreciation of works of art is founded on the similar(subjective) value. There had been little attempt to reverse such tendency by creating an objective and quantitative checklist for evaluating a work of art. Centering on the evaluation of the Media Art, which increased dramatically in numbers since the late 1960s, this is an attempt in systematizing the quantitative evaluation of Media Art by reflecting the idea of subjective criticism as well as its medium specificity. As such, the criteria for the evaluation consist of media evaluation, work evaluation, appreciation evaluation, product evaluation and exhibition evaluation. The evaluators can be divided into the general public, the Media Art specialist and the curatorial staff, according to their experiences in dealing with the Media Art. Based on the result of the FGD, the weight has been added to the evaluation system according to each evaluation criteria to ensure the balance between the objective and subjective criticism.

This paper considers the historicity and aesthetical implications of in the art world of Paul Ryan(1943-2013) who designed the aestheticization of relational circuit of society by realizing the value of social transformation being inherent in video with cultural practices and suggesting the interdisciplinary method of leaning and research in the early video art history. To do this, in Chapter II, I review the first artwork presented firstly in the art gallery exhibition "TV as a Creative Medium" in 1969, in which Ryan proposed a video medium as a communication system and experimented the concept of 'feedback' in Cybernetics. And Chapter III focuses Ryan's discursive activities contributed to magazine Radical Software and artist-collective Raindance Corporation with growing interest in communication technology. At this time, Ryan regarded video medium as the tool for cybernetic expansion. Finally Chapter IV deals with the development of ecological method based on "a shared perception of environmental realities" and verifies Ryan's vision that video medium would be most effective means of social change and communication.

This paper considers the historical background of the emergence of 'thinking-machine,' that has changed the ontological statue of human and machine. In particular, British mathematician Charles Babbage's Calculating Engines is examined as a material iteration of thinking-machine, focusing on the discursive process by which thought is not the faculty of human, but the function of machine. In Chapter II, I review the dualism of René Descartes who denied the possibility of machine intelligence by separating the substance of body and mind. In Chapter III, Babbage's philosophical assertions which emphasized the function of human associated with thought by rejecting the fundamental opposition between human and machine. Therefore, this paper verifies that the conception of 'thinking-machine' essentially causes the reorganization and reformulation of concepts involved with human identity, and provides the sophisticated sources to prepare new perspective on the artificial technology nowadays.

This paper deals with the meaning of seeing in John Ruskin's aesthetic theory. For Ruskin, seeing is the essential key to define moral insight. To consider the relationship between the education of sight and the delight from experience of seeing in nature within Ruskin's moral thought, I analyse Ruskin's various lectures and texts, including Modern Painters, The Story of Halcyon, Of the Science of Light, Proserpina, and Praeterita. The first section of the body investigates the relations among pleasure, thought, sight which compose Ruskin's moral ecology, and then the second section traces the theoretical logic formed the concept of seeing as moral perception of human being. The third section demonstrates correspondence between aesthetic experience of pleasure and the way of seeing as an education for the mystery of Nature and God. After these theoretical processes, this paper finally insists that seeing is the factor of formation of an ecological sensibility corresponding with development of moral perception generated within the hierarchical structure of human-nature-god.

This study aims to understand the process of valuing contemporary artworks by young and emerging artists via online art platforms. This paper conceptualizes Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital, which theoretically guides us for conducting a case study of Saatchi Art. This article mainly collected data by interviewing seven Korean artists who were selected by our case with the supplement information carried out direct observation and document reviews. By analyzing the gathered data, the key finding of this research is that the selection of artists in Saatchi Art's curatorial program implicitly admits and guarantees the value of their artworks. By doing so, it contributes to building symbolic capital for the selected artists. This article also contends that such construction of the artists' symbolic capital results from the accumulated symbolic capitals of the founder and curator of the online platform. The theoretical contribution of this paper is to expand previous research on valuing artworks in the offline art world into the online one.
