  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of quality of work life for clinical nurses based on Peterson and Wilson's Culture-Work-Health model (CWHM). Methods: A structured questionnaire was completed by 523 clinical nurses to analyze the relationships between concepts of CWHM-organizational culture, social support, employee health, organizational health, and quality of work life. Among these conceptual variables of CWHM, employee health was measured by perceived health status, and organizational health was measured by presenteeism. SPSS21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used to analyze the efficiency of the hypothesized model and calculate the direct and indirect effects of factors affecting quality of work life among clinical nurses. Results: The goodness-of-fit statistics of the final modified hypothetical model are as follows: ${\chi}^2=586.03$, ${\chi}^2/df=4.19$, GFI=.89, AGFI=.85, CFI=.91, TLI=.90, NFI=.89, and RMSEA=.08. The results revealed that organizational culture, social support, organizational health, and employee health accounted for 69% of clinical nurses' quality of work life. Conclusion: The major findings of this study indicate that it is essential to create a positive organizational culture and provide adequate organizational support to maintain a balance between the health of clinical nurses and the organization. Further repeated and expanded studies are needed to explore the multidimensional aspects of clinical nurses' quality of work life in Korea, including various factors, such as work environment, work stress, and burnout.

  • Cultivated garlic, Allium sativum L. is economically important for leaves and bulbs, which historically were used in Korea for spices and condiments of Korean food as well as medicine crops. This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of development and differentiation on culture of A. sativum (cv: white 6) by explant position, hormone composition and sucrose concentration in culture media. Culture method was investigated to induce shoot primordium. Culture efficiency was better with lower tissue of foliage leaf in explant position and on the medium with NAA 0.02 + BAP 1.0 mg/l in hormone composition than any other. Precocious shoot and callus were induced from shoot apex. Shoot was efficiently differentiated on 4,000 mg/l sucrose with increasing concentration of BAP. Shoot primordium was also induced with liquid rotary culture by histological observation. Rhizoid was induced from callus tissue cluster on medium with NAA 0.02 + BAP 2.0 mg/l.

  • Organizations are facing a new, diverse security threat as ICT based industrial environment arises. As a way of effective countermeasure for security threat, organizations are making an effort to establish internalization of security culture, targeting a organizational members. However, members' awareness toward security receptiveness is low as inconvenience exists in business process and existing security culture focuses on controlling and regulating. Accordingly, this research desires to develop a participatory security culture which can higher the efficiency of security work process and induce members' voluntary participation. A comparative analysis on security culture related prior researches is conducted and based on a drawn components, statistical verification is accomplished. It is expected to contribute on future research on measuring a security culture level.

  • A suitable bioreactor culture system for shoot proliferation and bulblet formation of Allium victorialis var. platyphyllum Makino was established. Uptake of soluble carbohydrates in different bioreactor culture systems was also analyzed during the entire culture period. Optimal conditions for multiple shoot formation were determined in raft culture (RC) and modified raft culture system (MRC) (13-15 per explant) in which the explants were placed on a net contacting liquid medium. For bulblet formation and enlargement, 93.4% of shoot clumps formed bulblets at the basal part. Furthermore, they were uniform in size when cultured with ebb & flood system (E&FS). Bulblets harvested from RC and MRC showed vigorous rooting, however, their growth was not uniform. Whereas soluble carbohydrate contents in the bulblets cultured in E&FS were low, starch content was high. Sucrose, glucose and fructose concentrations in the medium of E&FS culture system decreased as bulblet formation and enlargement proceeded, suggesting that external sucrose is taken up to by the cells before it is hydrolyzed.

  • This study was performed to determine effects of the supplementation of Kimchi lactic acid bacterial culture in extruded pellets (EP) on the growth, body composition, blood chemistry and immune response of olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus. Four hundred eighty individuals averaging 16.1 g were randomly distributed into 12, 180 L flow-through tanks (forty fish per tank). Four concentrations of Kimchi lactic acid bacterial culture (KL) were prepared: Control (0%), 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.5%. Three concentrations (0.1%, 0.2% and 0.5%) of Kimchi lactic acid bacterial culture were each diluted to 10% of EP weight and then fully absorbed by EP for 10 minutes. Each diet was fed to triplicate groups of fish. Fish were hand-fed to apparent satiation twice a day for 8 weeks. At the end of the 8-week feeding trial, the plasma lysozyme and bacterial activities of fish were determined. In addition, the cumulative mortality of fish was monitored for 8 days after their artificial infection with Edwardsiella tarda. The weight gain, specific growth rate, feed efficiency ratio, protein efficiency ratio, protein retention, hepatosomatic index and condition factor of fish were not affected by dietary supplementation with KL. None of the proximate composition, plasma parameters, lysozyme or bactericidal activities of fish was affected by dietary supplementation with KL. However, the cumulative mortalities of fish fed EP containing 0.1% and 0.5% Kimchi lactic acid bacterial culture were relatively low compared to that of fish fed the control diet. In conclusion, dietary supplementation with KL did not effectively improve growth, feed utilization, body composition, plasma chemistry, lysozyme, bactericidal activities or immune response of olive flounder after E. tarda infection under these experimental conditions.

  • The concept of carrying capacity for bivalve culture of an area can be classified into four hierarchical categories, according to their level of complexity and scope, such as physical, production, ecological and social carrying capacity. Most scientific efforts to date have been directed towards modelling production carrying capacity and some of the resultant models have been used successfully. But, the modelling of ecological carrying capacity is still in its infancy, because it should consider the whole ecosystem and all culture activities. A more holistic approach is needed to determine the influence of bivalve aquaculture on the environment and ecological carrying capacity. As an alternative, we can use a set of ecological indicators which can show the environmental performance of bivalve farms and assess ecological carrying capacity. Clearance efficiency and filtration pressure indicators show the value of 0.331 and 0.203, respectively, and these indicators suggest that the present level of culture in GeojeHansan Bay is above the ecological carrying capacity of 0.05. Consequently, these indicators can provide a guidance on the present level of culture in regard to production and ecological carrying capacity in GeojeHansan Bay.

  • The mammalian ovary has a large number of primordial and preantral follicles, which are a potential source of oocytes for the in vitro mass production of embryos. Several in vitro culture systems have been developed to support the growth and development of oocytes from mouse preantral follicles. Under the appropriate condition, meiotically incompetent oocytes from preantral follicles can grow to final size and complete nuclear maturation in vitro. Furthermore, the successful production of live young from in vitro grown and matured oocytes demonstrates that oocytes from preantral follicles are able to acquire full developmental capacity in vitro. However, the efficiency of in vitro production of embryos from mouse preantral follicles is still low. In farm animals as well as human, the growth of oocyte from preantral follicle to the meiotic competence stage has yet to be demonstrate. Therefore, further studies to improve the culture condition or to develope new culture system should be needed in the future. In addition, the visible progress in the establishment of the in vitro culture system for preantral follicles of farm animals and human could help to enlarge the populations of valuable agricultural, phamaceutical product-producing, and endangered animals, and to rescue the oocytes of women about to undergo clinical procedures that jeopardize oocytes.

  • Objective of the research is to demonstrate solar thermal space and ground heating system which is integrated to a greenhouse culture facility for reducing heating cost, increasing the value of product by environment control, and developing advanced culture technology by deploying solar thermal system. Field test for the demonstration was carried out in horticulture complex in Jeju Island. Medium scale solar hot water system was installed in a ground heating culture facility. Reliability and economic aspect of the system which was operated complementary with thermal storage and solar hot water generation were analyzed by investigating collector efficiency, operation performance, and control features. Short term day test on element performance and Long term test of the whole system were carried out. Optimum operating condition and its characteristics were closely investigated by changing the control condition based on the temperature difference which is the most important operating parameter. For establishing more reliable and optimal design data regarding system scale and operation condition, continuous operation and monitoring on the system need to be further carried out. However, it is expected that, in high-insolation areas where large-scale ground storage is adaptable, solar system demonstrated in the research could be economically competitive and promisingly disseminate over various application areas.

  • Decolorization of congo red, methyl orange, poly R478, remazol brilliant blue R and crystal violet by white-rot fungus Trametes sp. CJ-105, isolated in Korea, was investigated. Remazol blue and methyl orange were almost completely decolorized after 2 days of culture, but congo red, crystal violet and poly R478 were decolorized by about 80%, 40% and 30% after 10 days of culture, respectively. As a result of determination of cell mass and enzyme activity, it was shown that color removal efficiency was related to cell mass and enzyme activity, and also found that only laccase (E.C.1.10.3.2) activity was existed in the culture broth. The decolorization ratios of remazol blue in the concentrations of 100ppm to 3, 000 ppm were 85% and above after 2 days of culture. In this study, we found that white-rot fungus, Trametes sp. CJ-105, was effective in decolorizing a wide range of structurally different synthetic dyes.
