A Study of Social Meaning of Game Accessibility (게임접근성의 사회적 의미에 대한 연구)

  • In accordance with mandatory enforcement action of the Web Accessibility, Web accessibility is increasing interest in society. People are facing with disability situations, and the elder people are facing with disability situation more and more. 'Everyone' is faced with disability situations. The value of the universality of accessibility oriented. The game is typical of modern society and culture activities, but society in Korea is still recognized as a special minority cultures. To understand about conflict over the game, we access game accessibility as a Despotic conditions. Game Accessibility implies a social meaning ; Cultural values of universal access to games, literacy games, new business creation, contents accessibility.

Effects of a Multicultural Course on the Multicultural Acceptability and Competency of Nursing Students (다문화 교과 프로그램이 간호대학생의 다문화 수용성 및 역량에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of a multicultural course on nursing students' multicultural acceptability and competency. Method: The research design for this study was a non-equivalent control group, non-synchronized pre- and post-test. The experimental group (n=28) took 13 weeks of the multicultural course, while the control group (n=28) received only regular classes over the same period. Pre- and post-tests were done to identify the effects of the program. The data were collected using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using the PASW 18.0 program. Results: All indices of multicultural acceptability and competency in the experimental group were significantly higher than that of control group after the program, except for two: universality (a measure of multicultural acceptability) and multicultural awareness (a measure of multicultural competency). Conclusion: These results suggest that the multicultural course was effective in elevating the level of multicultural acceptability and competency among nursing students.

  • The purpose of this paper is to show the role of aesthetic experience from appreciating the creative products in the creative economy. The paper has found that the universality of creativity is a very basic foundation of the creative economy and anyone can enhance his or her creativity from appreciating or consuming the creative products and apply such acquired creativity to the non-creative industries. From these findings we can derive two public policy implications. The first one is that the government should support people to pursue a diverse and unique experience, i.e. aesthetic experience with creative products. And the second one is that art education both inside and outside of the school curriculum should be emphasized.

  • The research was conducted with awareness of cultural uniqueness in each country and similarities and universality among countries. On that account, it raised questions about the idea that social well-being can be achieved only materialistic consumption and its cultural symbolism can lead to incongruity in social hierarchy and then dysfunctions in a counter way. On the other hand, the value of well-being can be achieved by many different ways and within one's limited budget as well as material consumption. This paper provides basic information about the development of essential wellbeing products and strategies for building market segmentation in the industry. The research also provides policy makers with the direction of welfare policy in our society to establish a foundation of creating conditions for true well being. This paper will be helpful in fulfilling well-being in our whole society.

The Orient and Women in Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra (버나드 쇼의 『시저와 클레오파트라』에 나타난 동양과 여성)

  • For a long time Westerners have considered the Orient as unknown and mysterious, but Orientals soon came to be seen as weak and dependent, or feminine. The Oriental woman became a synecdoche for the Orient itself. We can find this theme in several British plays that deal with the Orient and Oriental women, including Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra and Dryden's All for Love. Both of these plays have Egypt as their setting and Cleopatra as a main character. For a better society, Shaw emphasizes the importance of education. In Caesar and Cleopatra, Shaw sees Egypt as a weak and dependent country which needs the help of Rome. Accordingly, he depicts Cleopatra as young and ignorant, needing to be educated in her role as a queen. Shaw finds possibilities for growth and independence in the Egyptians and Cleopatra, who recognize themselves as Egyptians and pursue their identity apart from the colonialization of Rome. Here the Egyptians attempt to resist and escape the oppression of Rome. Young, dependant and ignorant Cleopatra becomes independent and knowledgeable as the result of her education by Caesar and in the end she becomes a real Egyptian queen. According to Shaw, the Orient and women have the potential to develop themselves and ultimately to overcome the government of Western countries and men. In this play, Shaw emphasizes the potential of the Orient and women and the importance of education. Shaw thinks women can grow and develop through education. Especially through Cleopatra's growth, his thought can be applied for Oriental women as well as Western women. His thought is beyond the 19th century British society in which this play was written. Through this play, we can see Shaw's thought is not limited by race, time and place and also has universality to transcend everything.

Ngugi wa Thiong'o's Cultural Theory and Its Significance in Translation (응구기 와 시옹오의 문화이론과 번역의 의미)

  • With emphasis on various local cultures to confront the Western central culture, Ngugi wa Thiong'o proposes them 'to move horizontally' so as not to repeat the oppressive culture of the West. We need not only dialogues between dominant languages and peripheral languages, but also between marginal languages. With respect to this point, Ngugi thinks that translation itself could be very effective. Ngugi wants to stimulate writing and speaking in marginalized languages and promote translation as a means of making these languages visible. He regards translation as a conversational tool among languages and cultures in the multicultural global community. As is already well known, his determination to write his later works only in his native Gikuyu language has a great meaning in his anti-colonial as well as anti-neocolonial movement. Its proof is his recent effort to cooperate with Jalada Africa. Simon Gikandi criticized the English translation of Matigari as a denial of cultural hegemony of Gikuyu language and its subordination to the global cultural market. However, the concept of 'thick translation', helps us move from Gikandi's doubt of the 'epistemology of translation' to a meaningful strategy of postcolonial translation. Facing some of the scholars' doubts related to his over-stressing language problem, Ngugi points out that the world has managed to function well through translation: the possibility of translation between cultures and translation as a mediating tool for communication nationally as well as internationally. Based on this two-sided solution of translation, he believes that we can overcome the opposition between relativity and universality, center and periphery, and the dominant and the subordinate.

The Role of Attitude Importance in Cultural Variations of Cognitive Dissonance (인지부조화의 발생에서 문화 차이의 의미: 태도 중요도의 역할)

  • The recent findings proposed and found that people from Eastern cultures could experience strong cognitive dissonance only when certain conditions, such as other-related choices, normative attitudes, were fulfilled. Even though such interesting findings are intuitively convincing on the basis of common understanding of individualist and collectivist cultures, the psychological mechanisms underlying the cultural variations of cognitive dissonance remain untested. The present study examined the role of attitude importance in cognitive dissonance by using the free-choice paradigm. After completing a pretest of individualism-collectivism scales, 60 college students ranked their preference to 10 items of either beverage or traffic regulations twice. Between the two ranking tasks, they were asked to engage in behavioral selection among their 5th and 6th preferred items. They also rated the personal importance of the preference. The results showed that attitude importance was positively correlated with attitude change and it could play a major role in experiencing cognitive dissonance beyond cultural orientation and situational factors. The current findings were discussed in universality of cognitive dissonance across cultures.

  • The purpose of this article is to investigate the relation the animation to culture archetype, focusing on the case of the matter for animation content creation. Furthermore, in the paper, we also study about the animation industry development using various cultural archetypes such as the tale, myth, legend, folk tale, which are usable for animation content industry. For purposes of this study, we analyzed the aspects of power of folk tale and the essential vitality of folk tale in KBS Satellite Channel's and Michel Ocelot's $\grave{e}$re>. Above all, the origin of literature, folk tales are characterized by their uniqueness of each people as well as the global universality, being reproduced over and over again in oral literature. In the existent mode, folk tales have a firm structure because of storytelling, and have characteristics of performance and tradition on the basis of this structure. These characteristics can make emotional experience deepen and insure quality of narrative experience through direct communications. In this context, comparing folk tales of diverse forms of each nation and discovering the ethnicism and universality would not only be critical in the animation content development aspects, but provide precious data for effective animation marketing to apply One Source-Multi Use.

  • The world is preparing another unseen war, that is, the cultural war of digital economy which will dominate the new millenium. As the “contents”, which are composed of various ingredients of media, gain vitality, the developed nations are in preparation of the war with the “cultural industry” weapons. The digital economic experts say that the left out nations will become economic colony in the new millenium age. The most important characteristics of cultural industry is the unity of creativity and culture which is all the more improved on the basis of the culture created upon knowledge. This leads to competition between nations or regions, and to survive one has to develop the industrial structure through cognition of its own cultural value. Furthermore, it is not a short-term development and investment of cultural products but a study on the method to graft the cultural value to the industry itself. The multi-media period does not accept an independent medium, and the contents products are becoming the leading industry since il is proved that they last semi-permanently in the digital world. The victory lies in the quality and quantity of the contents as the high ability and variety of the technology of media advance in accordance to the market principles. Since the culture, science and economy are becoming one complex structure, all nations of the world are trying the evolve a unique design of their on culture on the basis of the global universality. In consequence, we should excavate a uniqueness from our cultural heritage and develop into a korean design which will be recognized in the world market. The value of our cultural property should not only be used as academic and research purposes but should be re-evaluated with modem view, recognized as the core element that decides the quality of life and developed into exclusive designs. The korean designs represent the mould concept of our people which evolves from the mould or shape alphabet of Korea To meet the requirements of the changing world and in preparation of the cultural competitive age, it is never too early to make a data on the korean designs through their analysis and evaluation.

Understanding policies regarding intangible cultural treasures and directions for improvement to promote the continuing tradition of Pansori (판소리 전승 활성화를 위한 무형문화재 제도의 이해와 개선 방향)

  • Pansori has been passed down over several generations and over time have undergone continued change in accordance with the times, as well as the skills and ability of the singer. Policies regarding intangible cultural treasures were established to preserve and promote the continuing tradition of art forms including Pansori and thus must spare no effort in supporting and preserving the genre. As such, for proper implementation of the newly legislated law, it is necessary to review the agents who pass down the tradition of Pansori and whether there are any areas that need to be changed in terms of our perception of culture in general. Pansory in the $21^{st}$ century features both contemporary aspects and mass appeal and have undergone many changes in how it is enjoyed. It is our responsibility therefore, to establish how the art and universality of Pansori should be promoted. From this perspective, this study reviewed the evolution of law on intangible cultural treasures, the current status of intangible cultural treasures being passed down with a focus on national treasures and those of Jeonbuk Province to shed light on issues. Diversification is needed in the number of those who carry this intangible cultural treasure, as well as the number of categories. To that end, a survey index or practical ability index must be taken into account for the application and designation of intangible cultural treasures. The study also noted issues of the categories for designation as intangible cultural treasures and discussed directions for improvement. In the case of Pansori, suggestions for improvement were presented for the designation of skilled artists by school, regular surveys and regular application, increased role of artists for increased mass appeal, survey of regional singers, supervision and monitoring of skilled artists and establishment of a manual for the education on how to pass down the art form. In doing so, efforts should be made to make the passing down of Pansori more active and related education more systematic. Since we are in the early years of the law on intangible cultural treasures being implemented, areas of improvement will continue to be identified. It is however certain that the proper support for the art form to be handed down should be done in a way where law and culture are complementary given that Pansori is not just a Korean tradition, but a tradition of mankind.
