As a way to situate environmental literary study, urban nature recently seems to have become an increasingly important part of ecocritical studies. Considering the recent deprecation on the alleged ecocriticism's ecocentric position, this move looks promising. However, a scrutable review of recent publications of ecocritical studies reveals a contradicting result that an ecocritical approach to urban nature not only lacks substance but also makes too much of the cultural and political issues of 'environmental justice' in which the traditional value and beauty of nature is totally sacrificed and neglected for its political purpose. Under the current circumstance that the environmental crisis threatens all landscapes of wild, rural, and urban, ecocriticism needs to put together "green" landscapes of wildness and "brown" landscapes of urban environment. The interdependence between outback and urban landscapes is best observed in suburban areas in which both landscapes coexist and merge. Provided with due learning and attention of nonhuman environment in their backyard, suburban residents have privilege of both appreciating nature's beauty and value of its own, on the one hand, and acutely reckoning urban environmental concerns related to their health, safety, and sustenance, on the other, in their own home grounds. The post-1980s in the United States has witnessed the emerging voices of suburban nature writings that speak for both green and brown landscapes, which have escaped from ecocritical attention. Among the suburban nature writings, those of Michael Pollan and Thomas Mitchell well illustrate how the green and brown landscapes are interwoven and, accordingly, how environmental awareness of both landscapes can start in suburban 'home.' Ecocriticism's validation as relevant studies of literature and environment may depend on these suburban nature writings which demonstrate an 'ancient-future' ethic of "home" based environmentalism.

The purpose of this study is to overview domestic and foreign trends in the study of the landscape evaluation through new framework of landscape evaluation studies. 108 studies on the landscape evaluation are summarized and categorized into theoretical studies, verification of theories, development of evaluation methods and applications in physical planning. Major theories in the landscape evaluation came from the psycho-physics, the evolutionary theory ann the cultural-learning theory, and were verified and applied into physical planning. Early experimental researches on landscape evaluation, based on psycho-physics, were focused on relatively simple responses to landscapes. But many studies have been gradually related to the evolutionary theory and the cultural learning theory, emphasizing biological and cultural effects on landscape evaluation. Especially, Appleton's Prospect-Refuge theory' and Kaplans' 'Information Processing model' have very strong influence in landscape evaluation. Relatively there have been many application researches in Korea, which tells there have been strong needs to solve pending practical problems caused by the rapid economic and social growth for several decades. Almost of applications in physical planning are focused on physical features of landscapes, but for more comprehensive landscape evaluation, many other factors such as cognitive and sociocultural variables should be integrated into the whole evaluation system. As a result of reviewing of landscape evaluation studies, I found the overall domestic and foreign trends and the necessity of more research on the applications in physical planning. Because this study mainly focused on academic researches, for more appropriate landscape evaluation and management there should be more practical researches including various approaches.

The purpose of this research was to find out the characteristics of secluded cultural landscapes that were retained by Eyogye Cho Lyeo(漁溪 趙旅) as a recluse or a schola at the early time of Chosun dynasty through his poems, residential site and his successors' landscapes. The study sites were selected such as Wonbukgae(院北齋), Chamijeong(採薇亭), Gomaam (叩馬巖) and his graveyard. In order to do that, Wonbukgae, Chamijeong, Gomaam and his cemetery were selected as studying sites. Also researching methods were used by grasping the landscape elements through reading ancient books such as "Eyogyezip(漁溪集)", field-researching, analyzing characters of his secluded landscapes and interpreting his poem's meaning. This research found that: 1) After Danjong(端宗)'s dethronement, he returned to his home town and never come out to the world again. He wanted to keep fidelity to his king forever. 2) He was affected for his seclusion from many people who were Ryu Gyebun(柳桂芬), Bae Junghu(裵仲厚) as his classmates at Sunggyungwan(成均館). Also Won ho(元昊) and Kim Sisyub(金時習) as members of Sangyuksin(生六臣) affected him for sake of their seclusion. 3) The meaning of his seclusion expressed the notation of seclusion as a fisherman from his pen name as 'Yeogye'. Also this kind culture has very particular behavior such as concentration phenomenon of action, absolute eccentricity of seclusion, tourism of nature and deep knoledge of feng shui, strong persistence of seclusion and confucian practical attitude of filial behavior. 4) The secluded cultural landscape is divided to four regions. They have two types of landscape such as secluded cultural landscape of his lifetime and landscape transmission of his posterity and scholars. 5) The interpretation of his poems and their aesthetic analysis found two characters. His poems were expressed by landscape substance like plants, natural and man-made elements. Their theme was confucian, peaceful and faithful seclusion.

An exhibit entitled 'Revelatory Landscapes' was held at the San Francisco Museum of Modem Art from May 5 to October 14, 2001. For this Museum's rot off-site outdoor exhibition, five outstanding design teams-Kathryn Gustafson, Hargreaves Associates, Hood Design, Tom Leader Studio, and ADOBE LA-created site-specific installations in Berkeley, Oakland, San Jose, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Each project showcased a hybridization of environmental art and landscape design. The main content revealed through revelatory landscapes were the natural, cultural, and historical palimpsest of the sites-particularly as related to the history of minorities such as Native American, African Americans and Latin Americans-as well as the every day life of ordinary people. To represent these ideas, a juxtaposition of the past and the present was broadly applied. Furthermore, the use of dramatic colors, textures, and forms in consideration of materials coupled with the revelation of natural elements such as wind and sunlight accelerated the effect of this juxtaposition. Every project of the Revelatory Landscapes exhibit requires a phenomenological experience to be appreciated. Via the five senses, these experiences cause a synesthetic experience beyond solely the visual. By examining the projects of 'Revelatory landscapes', the threshold for a new blending between environmental art and landscape design as well as new landscape design strategies that overcome the dichotomy between nature and culture will change and evolve.

Despite the fact that the importance of islands and oceans is increasingly being emphasized as they are recognized as alternative spaces for the future, some islands that have not been designated as cultural assets have lost their natural and cultural landscapes to development projects and other plans for turning islands into tourist resources, and are still in the process of being destroyed. Unlike old perceptions of islands, islands, in the minds of people living in the modern age, have become places for taking a quiet rest or enjoying and appreciating the undamaged beauty of nature itself. Keeping up with the trend of people increasingly visiting the islands these days, it is high time to prepare plans for the promotion, preservation management, and usages of islands based on researches of islands with excellent natural landscapes and through the designation of these islands as cultural properties. As the first step of studying island landscape resources as resources of cultural assets, the current study includes literature reviews and field investigations of Gwanmaedo and Yeongsando, two islands that have been selected as prestigious villages and are part of the Dadohaehaesang National Park. Based on these preliminary investigations, landscape resources showing distinctive natural landscapes and cultural sceneries were selected and analyzed in detail, thus presented for their value as resources of Scenic site and future research.

This paper interprets the social and cultural significance of the "landscape" in North Korea by exploring the object and context of the text referring to the "landscape" in North Korean literature. To this end, the paper first classified the objects describing "landscapes" in serial publications and newspaper articles by types and grouped them according to trend. As a result, the social and cultural significance of the "landscape" in North Korea can be divided among "Projection Object of Orthodoxy", "Visuality extended to the City" and "Visible Socialist-Fairyland". First, in an article about Baekdusan (Mt. Baekdu), "landscape" was used as a medium to prove the legitimacy of the successor. Next, in the Kim Jong-Un regime, "landscape" was used as a word to describe the visual interactions by human economic activities. Finally, as a way to visualize the achievements in the landscape sector, a term for ranking landscapes such as "Socialist-Fairyland" was adopted during Kim Jong-Un's reign. This can be interpreted as one of the devices visualizing the "landscape" and is clearly distinguished from the past.

From the "Recommendation on the Safeguarding of the Beauty and Character Landscapes and Sites"(1962) to the "ICOMOS-IFLA Document on Historic Urban Public Parks"(2017), 'the spatial safeguarding Concept of Cultural Heritage' in International Norms has manifested in various types. In this article, 24 types of International Norms that reflect 'the concept of Spatial Safeguarding in Cultural Heritage' and Korea legal system such as 'Historical and Cultural Environment' were analyzed in the following two aspects. The first aspect is 'Object Type to safeguard' and analyzed in four types such as 'Groups of buildings(A type)', 'Surrounding, Environment, Setting(B type)', 'Cultural landscape(C type)', 'Historic area and Historic towns(D type)'. The second aspect is 'Safeguarding value(analysis elements)' and analyzed in the following tree elements ; 'Landscape value' such as skyline, 'Intangible value' such as the functions of cultural customs, and 'Ecological value' that should preserve life itself. As a result of the study, 'the concept of Spatial Safeguarding in Cultural Heritage' including C and D type and three value which are trends of International Norms are reflected in Korea legal system, and concrete safeguarding methodology is also implemented systematically in case of ecological value. However, intangible values are not specific to the methodology in both International norms and Korea legal systems, and should be developed in the future.

Originally a mosque transformed into a Christian cathedral, the Great Mosque-Cathedral is a prime example of this phenomenon, reflecting continuous cultural, architectural, and ideological exchanges between the two religions. This paper meticulously analyzes how the structure's architectural elements embody these exchanges, such as its ornate mihrab and unique double-arched columns. By integrating theories of hybridity with a detailed architectural and historical analysis, the study argues that the mosque-cathedral is not merely a physical space but a dynamic medium through which cultural negotiations and adaptations are articulated. The findings underscore the complexity of cultural hybridity, challenging simplistic interpretations of cultural exchange and dominance, and highlighting the mosque-cathedral's role in ongoing debates about identity and heritage in contemporary society. This comprehensive examination contributes to academic discussions on hybridity and enhances our understanding of cultural resilience and transformation through architectural spaces.

This study has been examined characteristics of Yeoju Lee family, rich group at Miryang in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, around Geumsidang(今是堂) Lee Gwang-jin remains as a cultural landscape appeared in pictures, poetry, and a strange story. Geumsidang Lee Gwang-jin returned to his old home abandoned the middle government post after the death of Moonjeong queen in socially confused stage and tried to manage an annex to a Geumsidang located in Baekgok of Eungchun riverside, and Geumsidang he managed was affected by his teacher and uncle Wolyoun Lee Tae of a view of nature, filial behavior, and nature management etc. Also, 'Painting of 12 landscapes to Geumsidang' is landscape painting with the actual view not like the '8 landscapes of So-Sang' or '8 landscapes of Sa-Si' which is abstract landscape and Lee Gyeong-hong drew 12 landscapes of Geumsidang that includes Angbong(鶯峰: nightingale peak), Yongdu mountain(龍頭山), Mubong Buddhist temple(舞鳳寺), Maam mountain(馬巖山), Wolyeon-dae(月淵臺), Saindang village(舍人堂村), Youngnam-ru(嶺南樓), Miryang eubseong(密陽邑城), Eyeonso(梨淵沼: pear tree deep water), Yullim(栗林: chestnut tree forest), Miryang river(密陽江), Sammundong fields(沙門野), land and government office owned by Yeoju Lee family as landscape objects. 'Poems of 12 landscapes to Geumsidang' by Lee Yong-gu 11th sons of Lee Gwang-jin was written based on 'Painting of 12 landscapes to Geumsidang', and sang for time, season, and changes of the weather. All 12 poems are all a quatrain with seven Chinese characters in each line consisted of all 28 words, but does not match completely with shown elements in pictures because it is not a simple description of pictures but it is recreated by writer's personality. Therefore these painting shows not only th meaning of filial behavior but also village owned by Yeoju Lee family rich group in Miryang, and these poem recreated the pictures by changing as certain scenic spot with the object of enforcing territory of Yeoju Lee family.
