  • This study was conducted in order to look for how to create added values by combining cultural contents with other industries effectively. For this purpose, we examined in what directions the tourist industry, which is the main industry of the Jeju Special Self-governing Province, should be combined with cultural contents. It is widely admitted that cultural contents can create various added values, but there have been insufficient efforts to develop cultural contents and link them to added values. In particular, local self-governing bodies' understanding of cultural contents is seriously poor. In order to improve this, we need to have appropriate perception of cultural contents and to change our idea for effective linking of cultural contents to added values. Thus, this study proposed that the development of cultural contents is achieved not simply through the development of contents but through the combination of various methods including the establishment of product development strategies, the establishment of tourist program development strategies, and the integration of slogans.

Recently, vast amounts of aid and financial resources have been earmarked for the development of the national cultural industries. Each region of our country has enhanced its autonomy in terms of decision-making, thus increasing the resort to cultural and natural resources. However, when industrializing and excavating hidden cultural resources, vitality should be breathed into regional and national economies. Moreover, as an issue of national importance, this could held resolving pressing matters such as the creation of added-value jobs, the merger of industries, basic architecture, societal problems and the revitalization of rural communities, to name but a few. Therefore, so as to develop regions through the revitalization of regional economies and the improvement of infrastructures, it is necessary to encourage cultural industries and the excavation of cultural resources. The present research suggests to upgrade the values of regional and cultural resources so as to revitalize cultural regional resources through concrete policies. This basically implies carrying out a program which aims at diffusing cultural values by resorting to cultural resources as tools of revitalization. Finally, the importance of cultural resources must be reflected in a diversified spectrum of policies aimed at bringing values out of cultural resources. Yet, thorough researches on proposals for a better use of regional resources are still much needed.

  • The The purpose of this study is to have a positive impact on the evaluation of the traditional market revitalization project by discussing the business details and implementation process of the commercial district revitalization project in depth. The research method uses practical methods for traditional market revitalization projects. First, the activation method of the place was examined through the concepts of Oldenburg's 'Third Place' and Carr et al.'s 'Five Demands for Public Space' and the theories related to non-face-to-face transactions were examined. The first study case was the commercial district revitalization project of the Cheongju Global Market Development Project(Seongan-gil Street Shopping Mall and Yukgeori traditional Market), which discussed revitalization of open space, revitalization through reproduction, and revitalization through festivals. The revitalization project through representation is a project to install a symbolic sculpture at the estimated location of the 'Namseokgyo' buried in Yukgeori traditional Market. The revitalization through the festival is the Korea Sale Festa, which is a vibrant business due to increased sales at traditional markets and shopping malls and floating population in open spaces. The second study case was the Cultural Tourism Promotion Project(Hanmin traditional Market), which discussed revitalization through the development of local brands and SNS content. In the conclusion, the relationship between the six projects and commercial district revitalization methods was discussed, and policy recommendations were made, mentioning the importance of reflecting regional characteristics in design planning. We hope that this study will be used to positively evaluate the traditional market revitalization project, showing that stakeholders are working hard to produce positive results within institutional limitations.
