High $T_c$ Superconductor Applications and Thick Film Preparation

  • High $T_c$ superconducting lines will be applied as key materials in the areas of power transmission line; magnetic levitation of vehicle; magnetic separation; magnetic energy storage and marine propulsion. A combination method of electrophoresis deposition and zone-melting for preparation of YBaCuO tape is proposed. The submicron particle powder of YBaCuO made by sol-gel method is used in the electrophoresis process. A 40∼50 ${\mu}\textrm{m}$ thickness of YBaCuO film on Ag plate could be deposited in about three minutes. After deposition the film is rolled and heat treated in order to increase the density and the adhesion of the film to the Ag plate. Silver(Ag) and lead oxide(PbO) were added in the YBaCuO powder in order to reduce its melting point. The YBaCuO coating with controlled Ag and PbO contents was preliminarily zone-melted at about $945^{\circ}C$.

  • Crystlline silicon solar cells markets are increasing at rapid pace. now, crystlline silicon solar cells markets screen-printing solar cell is occupying. screen-printing solar cells manufacturing process are very quick, there is a strong point which is a low cost. but silicon and metal contact, uses Ag & Al pates. because of, high contact resistance, high series resistance and sintering inside process the electric conductivity decreases with 1/3. and In pastes ingredients uses Ag where $80{\sim}90%$ is metal of high cost. because of low cost solar cells descriptions is difficult. therefore BCSC(Buried Contact Solar Cell) is developed. and uses light-induced plating, ln-line galvanization developed equipments. Ni/Cu matel contact solar cells researches. in Germany Fraunhofer ISE. In order to manufacture high-efficiency solar cells, metal selections are important. metal materials get in metal resistance does small, to be electric conductivity does highly. efficiency must raise an increase with rise of the curve factor where the contact resistance of the silicon substrate and is caused by few with decrement of series resistance. Ni metal materials the price is cheap, Ti comes similar resistance. Cu and Ag has the electric conductivity which is similar. and Cu price is cheap. In this paper, Ni/Cu/Ag metal contact cell with screen printing manufactured, silicon metal contact comparison and analysis.

Microstructure and CO Gas Sensing Properties of Ag-CuO-SnO2 Thin Films Prepared by Co-Evaporation and Thermal Oxidation (공증발과 열산화로 제조한 Ag-CuO-SnO2 박막에서 미세조직과 CO 가스 감지특성)

  • In this study, we investigated microstructure and the CO gas sensing properties of Ag-CuO-$SnO_2$ thin films prepared by co-evaporation and subsequently thermal oxidation at air atmosphere. The sensitivity of a Cu-Sn films, thermally oxidized at $600^{\circ}C$, is strongly affected by the amount of Cu. At Cu:7 wt%-Sn:93 wt%, the film exhibited a maximum sensitivity of ${\sim}2.3$ to CO gas of 1000 ppm at $300^{\circ}C$. In contrast, the sensitivity of a Sn-Ag film did not change significantly with the amount of Ag. An enhanced sensitivity of ${\sim}3.7$ was observed in the film with a composition of Ag:3 wt%-Cu:4 wt%-Sn:93 wt%, when thermally oxidized at $600^{\circ}C$. In addition, this thin film shows a response time of ${\sim}80$ sec and a recovery time of ${\sim}450$ sec to 1000 ppm CO gas. The results demonstrate that the CO sensitivity of the Ag-CuO-$SnO_2$ thin films may be closely associated with coexistence of $SnO_2$ and SnO phase, decrease in average particle size, and a porous microstructure. We also suggest that co-evaporation and followed by thermal oxidation is a very simple and effective method to prepare oxide gas sensor thin films.

Interfacial Reaction and Mechanical Property of BGA Solder Joints with LTCC Substrate (LTCC기판과 BGA 솔더접합부의 계면반응 및 기계적 특성)

  • The effects of aging time on the microstructure and shear strength of the Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC)/Ag pad/Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG)/BGA solder joints were investigated through isothermal aging at $150^{\circ}C$ for 1000 h with conventional Sn-37Pb and Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu. $Ni_3Sn_4$ intermetallic compound (IMC) layers was formed at the interface between Sn-37Pb solder and LTCC substrate as-reflowed state, while $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4$ IMC layer was formed between Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder and LTCC substrate. Additional $(Cu,Ni)_6Sn_5$ layer was found at the interface between the $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4$ layer and Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder after aging at $150^{\circ}C$ for 500 h. Thickness of the IMC layers increased and coarsened with increasing aging time. Shear strength of both solder joints increased with increasing aging time. Failure mode of BGA solder joints with LTCC substrate after shear testing revealed that shear strength of the joints depended on the adhesion between Ag metallization and LTCC. Fracture mechanism of Sn-37Pb solder joint was a mixture of ductile and pad lift, while that of Sn-3Ag-0.5Cu solder joint was a mixture of ductile and brittle $(Ni,Cu)_3Sn_4$ IMC fracture morphology. Failure mechanisms of LTCC/Ag pad/ENIG/BGA solder joints were also interpreted by finite element analyses.

A Study of Kirkendall Void Formation and Impact Reliability at the Electroplated Cu/Sn-3.5Ag Solder Joint (전해도금 Cu와 Sn-3.5Ag 솔더 접합부의 Kirkendall void 형성과 충격 신뢰성에 관한 연구)

  • A noticeable amount of Kirkendall voids formed at the Sn-3.5Ag solder joint with electroplated Cu, and that became even more significant when an additive was added to Cu electroplating bath. With SPS, a large amount of voids formed at the $Cu/Cu_3Sn$ interface of the solder joint during thermal aging at $150^{\circ}C$. The in-situ AES analysis of fractured joints revealed S segregation on the void surface. Only Cu, Sn, and S peaks were detected at the fractured $Cu/Cu_3Sn$ interfaces, and the S peak decreased rapidly with AES depth profiling. The segregation of S at the $Cu/Cu_3Sn$ interface lowered interface energy and thereby reduced the free energy barrier for the Kirkendall void nucleation. The drop impact test revealed that the electrodeposited Cu film with SPS degraded drastically with aging time. Fracture occurred at the $Cu/Cu_3Sn$ interface where a lot of voids existed. Therefore, voids occupied at the $Cu/Cu_3Sn$ interface are shown to seriously degrade drop reliability of solder joints.

The Near-eutectic Sn-Ag-Cu alloys are the leading candidate Pb-free solders (for SMT card assembly). .The microstructure of Sn-Ag-Cu alloys is discussed in terms of solidification, composition and cooling rate. Methods of controlling Ag3Sn plates are discussed. .Thermo-mechanical fatigue behaviors of Sn-Ag-Cu solder joints are reviewed. Tin pest, whisker growth, electromigration of Pb-free solders are discussed.

The Effect of Au Addition on the Hardening Mechanism in Ag-25wt% Pd-15wt% Cu (Ag-25wt% Pd-15wt% Cu 3원합금(元合金) 및 Au 첨가합금(添加合金)의 시효경화특성(時效京華特性))

  • The specimens used were Ag-25 Pd-15 Cu ternary alloy and Au addition alloy. These alloys were melted and casted by induction electric furnace and centrifugal casting machine in Ar atmosphere. These specimens were solution treated for 2hr at $800^{\circ}C$ and were then quenched into iced water, and aged at $350{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ Age- hardening characteristics of the small Au-containing Ag-Pd-Cu dental alloys were investigated by means of hardness testing. X-ray diffraction and electron microscope observations, electrical resistance, ergy dispersed spectra and electron probe microanalysis. Principal results are as follows : Hardening occured in two stages, i.e., stage I in low temperature and stage II in high temperature regions, during continuous aging. The case of hardening in stage I was due to the formation of the $L1_0$ type face-centered tetragonal PdCu-ordered phase in the grain interior and hardening in stage I was affected by the Cu concentration. In stage II, decomposition of the ${\alpha}$ solid solution to a PdCu ordered phase($L1_0$ type) and an Ag-rich ${\alpha}2$ phase occurred and a discontinuous precipitation occurred at the grain boundary. From the electron microscope study, it was conclued that the cause of age-hardening in this alloy is the precipitation of the PdCu ordered phase, which has AuCu I type face-centered tetragonal structure. Precipetation procedure was ${\alpha}{\to}{\alpha}+{\alpha}_2+PdCu {\to}{\alpha}_1+{\alpha}_2+PdCu$ at Pd/Cu = 1.7 Ag-Pd-Cu alloy is more effective dental alloy as ageing treatment and is suitable to isothermal ageing at $450^{\circ}C$.

A Study on the Mechanical Properties of Ag-X(X=Cu,Ni,C) Alloys Prepared by the Vacuum-deposition Technique (진공증착법으로 제작한 Ag-X(X=Cu,Ni,C) 합금의 기계적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • When alloys are vacuum-deposited on cooled substrates, super-rapidly cooled alloy films in the unequilibrium state can be obtained. As an application of this method, Ag-Cu, Ag-Ni and Ag-C alloys were successfully produced, and their mechanical properties with tempering temperature were investigated. The following results were obtained : (1) In case of Ag-Cu alloys, the solid solution was hardened by tempering at $150^{\circ}C$. The hardening is considered to occur when the solid solution begins to decompose into ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phases. The Knoop hardness number of a 40 at.%Ag-Cu alloy film deposited on a cooled glass substrate was 390 $kg/mm^2$. The as-deposited films were generally very hard but fractured under stresses below their elastic limits. (2) In case of Ag-Ni and Ag-C alloys, after the tempering of 4 at.%Ni-Ag alloy at $400^{\circ}C$ and of 1 and 2 at.%C-Ag alloys at $200^{\circ}C$, they were hardened by the precipitation of fine nickel and carbon particles. The linear relationship between proof stress vs. $(grain\;diameter)^{-l/2}$ for bulk silver polycrystals can be applied to vacuum-deposited films up to about 0.1 ${\mu}m$ grain diameter, but the proof stress of ultra-fine grained silver with grain diameters of less than 0.1 ${\mu}m$ was smaller than the value expected from the Petch's relation.

  • The Ag-Pd-Cu alloys containing a small amount of Au is commonly used for dental purposes, because this alloy is cheaper than Au-base alloys for clinical use. However, the most important characteristic of this alloy is age-hardenability, which is not exhibited by other Ag-base dental alloys.
