The Study on the Mechanism for Oxidation Reaction of Boratabenzene by Cyclic Voltammetry (Cyclic Voltammetry를 이용한 Boratabenzene의 산화반응 Mechanism 연구)

  • The oxidation mechanism of boratabenzene was studied. As a model compound the ferrocene analogue (${\eta}^6$-1-Methylboratabenzene)(${\eta}^5$-Pentamethylcyclopentadiennyl)iron 3 was chosen. The complex underwent irreversible oxidation in the presence of ortho proton on the ring and a methyl group on the boron atom in methanol medium. Chemical oxidations with $Hg(OAc)_2$, $HgSO_4$, $Cu(OH)_2$, $AgCF_3SO_3$ or $FeCl_3$ in MeOH gave, via a transition state [3], at first the derivates 6 and 7, which were converted to each 8 and 9.

  • New polynuclear poly(hexaaza macrocyclic) copper(II) complexes $[1](ClO_4)_{2n}{\cdot}(H_2O)_{2n}$, $[2](ClO_4)_{2n}{\cdot}(H_2O)_{2n}$, and $[3](ClO_4)_{2n}{\cdot}(H_2O)_{2n}$ have been prepared by the one-pot reaction of formaldehyde with ethylenediamine and 1,2-bis(2-aminoethoxy)ethane, 1,3-diaminopropane, or 1,6-diaminohexane in the presence of the metal ion. The polymer complexes contain fully saturated 14-membered hexaaza macrocyclic units (1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane) that are linked by $N-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-N$, $N-(CH_2)_3-N$, or $N-(CH_2)_6-N$ chains. The mononuclear complex $[Cu(H_2L^5)](ClO_4)_4$ ($H_2L^5$ = a protonated form of $L^5$) bearing two $N-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-O-(CH_2)_2-NH_2$ pendant arms has also been prepared by the metal-directed reaction of ethylenediamine, 1,2-bis(2-aminoethoxy)ethane, and formaldehyde. The polymer complexes were characterized employing elemental analyses, FT-IR and electronic absorption spectra, molar conductance, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Electronic absorption spectra of the complexes show that each macrocyclic unit of them has square-planar coordination geometry with a 5-6-5-6 chelate ring sequence. The polymer complexes as well as $[Cu(H_2L^5)]^{4+}$ are quite stable even in concentrated $HClO_4$ solutions. Synthesis and characterization of the polynuclear and mononuclear copper(II) complexes are reported.

  • The surface of AC8A Ah alloy was modified by adding the Cu powder using a Plasma Transferred Arc (PTA) welding process. Under the optimum fabricating conditions, the modified surface of AC8A Ah alloy was observed to possess the sound microstructure with a minimum porosity. Hardness and wear resistance properties of the as-fabricated alloy were compared with those of the 76 heat-treated one. In case of the as-fabricated alloy, the hardness of the modified layer was twice that of the matrix region. Although significant increase in the hardness of the matrix region was observed after T6 heat treatment, the hardness of the modified layer was not observed to change. The wear resistance of the modified layer was significantly increased compared to that of the matrix region. The microstructure of a weld zone and the matrix region were investigated using the optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The primary and eutectic silicon in the weld zone were finer and more curved than in the matrix region, while some precipitates has had been found therein. According to the TEM observation, the predominant precipitate present in the weld zone was the $\theta$'phase, which is precipitated during cooling by rapid solidification in PTA welding process. Improvement of hardness and wear properties in the weld zone in the as-fabricated condition can be explained based on the presence of $\theta$’precipitates and fine primary and eutectic silicon distribution.

Crystalline Qualities and Surface Morphologies of As-Grown $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ Thin Films on MgO(100) Substrate by Reactive Coevaporation Method (반응성 동시 증착법에 의한 As-grown $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ 박막의 결정 특성 및 표면형상에 관한 연구)

  • The as-grown $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ superconducting thin films on MgO(100) substrate have been prepared by a reactive coevaporation method. The superconducting transition temperature, surface morphology and crystalline quality were examined as a function of the substrate temperature ranging from $450^{\circ}C$ to $590^{\circ}C$. From the reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) analysis, it was found the film consisted of almost amorphous phase with a halo pattern deposited at the substrate temperature of $450^{\circ}C$. The film deposited at the substrate temperature of $510^{\circ}C$ consisted of polycrystalline phase, showing a broad ring pattern. On the other hand, for the film deposited at $590^{\circ}C$, RHEED showed spotty pattern indicating that this film consisted of single crystal phase. It has rough film surface due to the surface outgrowth. The surface outgrowth increased as the substrate temperature increased from $510^{\circ}C$ to $590^{\circ}C$. the surface outgrowth may be due to the anisotropic growth rate. The highest transition temperature obtained in this study was $Tc_{zero}$ of 83K with $Tc_{onset}$ of 88K for the film deposited at $590^{\circ}C$ using activated RF oxygen plasma.

  • 본 연구에서는 중금속 크롬($Cr^{+6}$)이 포함된 흑색안료(Copper Chromite Black)를 공침공정을 이용하여 무독성의 Fe 화합물로 대체한 환경친화적인 블랙(흑색)안료를 개발하였다. 안료제조를 위하여 인체에 무해한 화합물($MnCO_3$, Fe(OH)$_3$, CuO)을 원료로 사용하였으며, 가스소성, Ring-Mill에 의한 습식분쇄 그리고 건조과정을 통하여 흑색안료를 제조하였다. 안료의 평가는 제품의 품질을 결정하는 색상과 착색력을 최우선으로 선정하여 색차계로 고찰하였다. 연구결과, 공침공정으로 제조한 원료를 $950^{\circ}C$에서 12시간 동안 가스소성을 한 후 건조와 분쇄공정(습식)을 거쳐 흑색안료를 제조하였을 때, 최적의 색 선명도, 착색력 및 입도($1{\mu}m$ 이하)를 가진 것으로 나타났다.

  • Noble N-substituted-3-fluoropyrroles derivatives were prepared from new precursor via ring formation. The addition reaction of ethyl iododifluoroacetate to vinyl trimethylsilane under the Cu(0) catalyst resulted in the formation of ethyl-2,2-difluoro-4-iodo-4-(trimethylsilyl)butanolate, which reacted with diisobutylaluminium hydride at $-30^{\circ}C$ to yield 2,2-diflouro-4-iodo-4-(trimethylsilyl)butanal. Finally, a series of N-substituted-3-fluoropyrrole derivatives were synthesized by the reaction of 2,2-diflouro-4-iodo-4-(trimethylsilyl)butanal with $NH_4OH$ or primary amines followed by reaction with KF solution.

  • Several practical applications of melt-textured bulk superconductors require the complex-shaped products such as curved, ring-shaped, and drilled blocks rather than simple shaped pellets. However, melt-textured bulk superconductors are often damaged when they are cut, grinded, or drilled. With the aim of reducing such damages, we have investigated the preparation of the complex-shaped bulk superconductors by previously machining binder-added precursors and pre-sintered precursors. We could produce various complex-shaped bulk superconductors without cracking from these machined precursors

  • A series of complexes of the type [$ML_2Cl_2$], where L=2-(o-anisylidene-2'-imino) amino benzimidazole (AIAB) and 2-(furfurylidene imino) amino benzimidazole (FIAB), M=Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II), have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, thermal analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic moment, electronic, infrared, $^1H$-NMR spectral studies. The results are in consistent with bidentate chelation of ligand with azomethine nitrogen and ring nitrogen donors. All these Schiff bases and their complexes have also been screened for their antibacterial (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus stearothermophilus, Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi) and antifungal activities (Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus).

  • The crystal structure of phlorizin, a ${\beta}$ -D-glucopyranoside of a flavonoid dihydrochalcone phloretin, has been determined by single crystal diffraction methods using diffractometer data obtained by the ${\omega}-2{\theta}$ scan technique with Cu $K{\alpha}$ radiation from a crystal with space group symmetry $P2_12_12_1$ and unit cell parameters a = 4.9094 (2), b = 19.109 (1), c = 23.275 (4) $\AA$. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares to a final R = 0.047 for the 1697 observed reflections. The dihydrochalcone moiety is flat and fully extended. The glucose ring has the $^4C_1$ chair conformation and the conformation of the primary alcohol group is gauche-gauche. The crystal packing is dominated by an extensive hydrogen bonding pattern. There are one strong and two weak intramolecular hydrogen bonds in the phlorizin molecule.

  • Using the low valent titanium induced carbonyl-carbonyl coupling reaction, it was attempted to synthesize sterically hindered 17-membered cyclic chiral host 2. The semifinal dialdehyde 12 was obtained through 11 step reactions beginning from p-tert-butylphenol and dibenzofuran. When dialdehyde 12 was treated with $TiCl_3-Zn/Cu,$ only intermolecularly coupled dimer 14 was obtained instead of intramolecularly coupled cyclic alkene 2. The mechanistic consideration leading to 14 was discussed and the cation binding properties of dimer 14 and dicarboxylic intermediate 13 was reported, which implies the significance of the principle of preorganization of host's binding sites prior to complexation.
