  • The objective of this study is to enhance the ultimate bearing capacity of piles embedded in marine clay by electrokinetic(EK). The focus of improvement is at interlace between soil and pile. A series laboratory test was performed in EK cell. In each of test, the pile in the centre as anode is surrounded by cathode and it was installed in the vicinity of pile with triangular layout. The pile was made by stainless and embedded with 30cm of depth. Afterward, the DC voltage was applied to electrode over period of time. It caused flowing water from anode to cathode, thus the soil in the center of box has higher bearing capacity value than in the side of box has. It is shown by increasing of un-drained shear strength(Cu) near the pile and also ultimate bearing capacity of pile increase after EK treatment. In the future work, the continuous of this study is finding the effective DC voltage and makes EK treatment more applicable in the field.

  • The automobile is made up of thousands of parts. Some parts are formed by pressing and combined by spot welding. To find weldability conditions of spot welding, clearance between two welding plates was made and after spot welding, weldability is evaluated by means of tensile shear load, nugget size and shape. Specimen used in this study was a steel plate of 1.2mm thickness and electrode was Cu-Cr alloy of 6mm diameter. When spot welding started, the clearance of two specimens was changed 0mm, 3mm and 5mm and distance from vise to measure influence of bending moment 25mm, 45mm, 65mm step by step. The fractured surface of specimen after this test was observed by Optical Microscope to measure microstructure and nugget shape. When clearance of two specimen was 3mm and 5mm, strength and nugget size was decreased and nugget shape was not clear. The much bending moment and crosshead speed are the much tensile shear load is.

  • The characteristics of wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of tungsten carbide in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension, the gap of deflection was decreased after thickness 60mm and discharge time of 6$\mu\textrm{s}$ due to the changing from fundamental mode to vibration mode. The deflection is the smallest at the water specific resistivity of 7.5 kΩ ㆍcm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time, and the result is due to the vibration of the pressure and the amount of the dielectric. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, was observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be decreased as the number of EDM is increased. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. The roundness of middle is found to be worse than that of upper and it is increased as the thickness of material is increased.

  • In this study, we designed a 'spark in liquid' system. The spark discharge between two electrodes were used to generate particles by using sufficient temperature to evaporate a part of electrodes. The power supply system provides a continuous spark discharge by discharging of the capacitor to ionize the electrodes in liquid. The DC spark discharge system operates with 1-10 kV voltage. Processed copper and graphite rods were used to both electrodes with 1-3 mm diameter. There are several variables which can control the particle size and concentration such as gap distance between electrodes, applied voltage, operating liquid temperature, electrode type and liquid type. So we controlled these variables to confirm the change of particle size distribution and concentration of particles contained in liquid as wt%. 'spark in liquid' system is expected to apply nanoink by control of concentration with analysis of characteristics.

  • Wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of STD-11 in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension. The deflection is the smallest at the speed of wire of 10.6m/min and the water specific resistivity of 5k$\Omega$.cm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time. But if the water pressure is high, it is found not to be changed after the vibration of 4sec. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, is observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be similar in spite of the change of EDM energy level. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. • The geometry and dimensions of an expansion chamber are decisive factors in thermal puffer plasma chamber designs. Because they together dominate the temperature and speed at which the cooling gas from the chamber flows back through a flow channel to the arcing zone for the successful interruption of fault currents. In this study, we calculated the flow and mass transfer driven by arc plasma, and investigated the effects of a flow guide installed inside a thermal puffer plasma chamber. It is found that the existing cold gas of the chamber mixes with hot gases entrained from the arcing zone and is subjected to compression due to pressure build-up in the chamber. The pressure build-up with the flow guide is larger than that without due to a vortex which rotates clockwise around the chamber center. By the reverse pressure gradient, the mixing gas of the chamber flows back out for cooling down the residual plasma near current zero. In the case with the flow guide, the temperature just before current zero is lower than that without, and the Cu concentration with high electrical conductivity is also less than that without the flow guide.

  • This paper gives characterization of ZnO thin film deposited by RF magnetron sputtering method, which is concerned in deposition process and device fabrication process, to fabricate solidly mounted resonator(SMR)-type film bulk acoustic resonator(FBAR). A piezoelectric layer of 1.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick ZnO thin films were grown on thermally oxidized SiO$_2$(3000 $\AA$)/Si substrate layers by RF magnetron sputtering at the room temperature. The highly c-axis oriented ZnO thin film was obtained at the conditions of 265 W of RF power, 10 mtorr of working pressure, and 50/50 of Ar/O$_2$ gas ratio. The piezoelectric-active area was 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$${\times}$50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and the thickness of ZnO film and Al-3 % Cu electrode were 1.4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 180${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. Its series and parallel frequencies appeared at 2.128 and 2.151 GHz, respectively, and the qualify factor of the resonator was as high as 401.8$\pm$8.5.

  • Graphene, two dimensional single layer of carbon atoms, has tremendous attention due to its superior property such as fast electron mobility, high thermal conductivity and optical transparency, and also found many applications such as field-effect transistors (FET), energy storage and conversion, optoelectronic device, electromechanical resonators and chemical sensors. Several techniques have been developed to form the graphene. Especially chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a promising process for the large area graphene. For the electrically isolated devices, the graphene should be transfer to insulated substrate from Cu or Ni. However, transferred graphene has serious drawback due to remaining polymeric residue during transfer process which induces the poor device characteristics by impurity scattering and it interrupts the surface functionalization for the sensor application. In this study, we demonstrate the characteristics of solution-gated FET depending on the removal of polymeric residues. The solution-gated FET is operated by the modulation of the channel conductance by applying a gate potential from a reference electrode via the electrolyte, and it can be used as a chemical sensor. The removal process was achieved by several solvents during the transfer of CVD graphene from a copper foil to a substrate and additional annealing process with H2/Ar environments was carried out. We compare the properties of graphene by Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy(AFM), and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. Effects of residual polymeric materials on the device performance of graphene FET will be discussed in detail.
