  • This study was conducted to investigate tissue nutrient contents and salt accumulation in plastic house soils cultivating lily, rose and carnation. The soil tested had high total salts, available phosphate and exchangeable potassium. The soil cultivating rose had highest salt concentvation followed by chose of carnation and lily. Tissue nutrient contents of lily were higher than chose of carnation and rose. In comparison among cultivars, the nutrient contents were as follows; 'Snow Qeen'>'Le Reve'>'Casa Blanca' in lily; 'Marina'>'Super star'>'Mary Devor'>'Madelon' in carnation; and 'Cocktail'> 'Marina'>'Maderon' in rose. The range of the nutrient contents were: T-N: $1.66\;{\sim}2.35%$, K: $1.73{\sim}2.23%$, Zn: $2.13{\sim}6.43\;mg/kg$, Cu: $3.79{\sim}13.89\;mg/kg$ in carnation; T-N: $0.79{\sim}1.65%$, P: $0.18{\sim}0.44%$, Ca: $0.59{\sim}1.26%$, Mg: $0.21{\sim}0.46%$, Zn: $23.65{\sim}90.30\;mg/kg$, Cu: $0.99{\sim}4.62\;mg/kg$ in lily; and T-N: $0.75{\sim}1.62%$, P: $0.17{\sim}0.30%$, K: $1.60{\sim}2.91%$, Ca: $0.64{\sim}0.94%$, Zn: $24.57{\sim}48.31\;mg/kg$, Cu: $3.10{\sim}9.08\;mg/kg$ in rose. • This study was carried out to determine the heavy metal contents in effluents, soils and plants grown on the soils from 1982 to 1983. The heavy metal pollution of Keumho river was resulted from Sincheon, Kongdancheon and Dalseocheon. The urban sewage influxes in Sincheon and Dalseocheon whereas the industrial wastewater flows in Kongdancheon. The average heavy metal contents of effluents in these streams exceeded the Korean Standard Environmental value. The high level of heavy metal contents in soils and plant tissues should be originated from the polluted river water. The heavy metal contents of soils were significantly positively correlated with that of plant.

  • The heavy metal contents in Carassius auratus, that were sampled from Nov.1 to Nov. 31, 1991 at 6 areas in Joenlabuk-do. The mercury contents was determined by mercury analyzer using the combustion Goldamal-gamation method. The arsenic contents were determined by spectrophotometry using silver diethyl ditiho carbamate method. The contents of other heavy metals were determined by inductively coupled plasma spectrometer method. The levels of total mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead, cupper, manganes, and zinc were determined and the results were summarized as follows : The 6 areas over all range(ppm) were Hg : 0.0167~0.0407, As : N.D.~0.0018, Cd : 0.1256~0.1935, Pb : 0.3536~0.6593, Cu : 0.2094~0.3792, Mn : 2.9059~6.9335, Zn : 14.3095~48.1615ppm. Among the seven heavy metals contents, the higest was zinc and the lowest was arsenic. The results show that contents of Hg As, Cd, Pb, Mn and Zn in Carassius auratus were lower than the FAO/WHO maximum allowance.

  • Mo-Cu alloys have been widely used for heat sink materials, vacuum technology, automobile and many other applications due to their excellent physical and electronic properties. Especially, Mo-Cu composites with 5~20 wt% copper are widely used for the heavy duty service contacts due to their excellent properties like low coefficient of thermal expansion, wear resistance, high temperature strength and prominent electrical and thermal conductivity. In most of the applications, high dense Mo-Cu materials with homogeneous microstructure are required for high performance, which has led in turn to attempts to prepare ultra-fine and well-dispersed Mo-Cu powders in different ways, such as spray drying and reduction process, electroless plating technique, mechanical alloying process and gelatification-reduction process. However, most of these methods were accomplished at high temperature (typically degree), resulting in undesirable growth of large Cu phases; furthermore, these methods usually require complicated experimental facilities and procedure. In this study, Mo-Cu alloying were prepared by planetary ball milling (PBM) and spark plasma sintering (SPS) and the effect of Cu with contents of 5~20 wt% on the microstructure and properties of Mo-Cu alloy has been investigated.

  • Cu as a tramp element has been reported to encourage transverse cracking upon straightening operation during continuous casting or mini-mill processing. Therefore, the hot workability of steels containing Cu should be investigated. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of Cu contents on the hot ductility of low carbon steels by using hot compression test. Hot compression test was carried out using a Gleeble. The specimens were heated to $1300^{\circ}C$ for solution treatment and then held for 300s before cooling at a rate of $1^{\circ}C/s$ to test temperatures in the range of $650{\sim}1150^{\circ}C$ ($50^{\circ}C$ intervals) with strain rate of $5{\times}10^{-3}/s$. In Cu containing steels, the hot ductility was decreased with increasing Cu content at high temperature region which is to be attributed to copper enriched phase formed at scale/steel interface, and low hot ductility with increasing Cu content at low temperature region is attributable to the strengthening of matrix by the formation of ${\varepsilon}-Cu$. The width of ductility trough region was decreased with increasing Cu content.

  • Cu-Ti thin films were fabricated using a combinatorial sputtering system to realize highly sensitive surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. The Cu-Ti sample library was grown with various chemical compositions and electrical resistivity, providing important information for selecting the most suitable materials for SAW devices. Considering that acoustic waves generated from piezoelectric materials are significantly affected by the resistivity and density of interdigital transducer (IDT) electrodes, three types of Cu-Ti thin films with different Cu contents were fabricated. The thickness of the Cu-Ti thin films used in the SAW-IDT electrode was fixed at 150 nm. As the Cu content of the Cu-Ti films was increased from 31.2 to 71.3 at%, the resistivity decreased from 10.5 to 5.8 × 10-5 ohm-cm, and the density increased from 5.5 to 7.3 g/cm3, respectively. A SAW device composed of Cu-Ti IDT electrodes resonated at exactly 143 MHz without frequency shifts, but the full width at half maximum (FWHM) values of the resonant frequency gradually increased as the Cu content increased. This means that although the increase in Cu content in the Cu-Ti thin film helps to improve the electrical properties of the IDT electrode, the increased density of the IDT electrode deteriorates the acoustic performance of SAW devices.

  • Heavy metals may cause trouble(s) in human body. For consideration of the safety of crude drugs cultivated in Korea, we selected some medicinal plants and soils from cultivated site and estimated their heavy metal contents by inductively coupled argon plasma spectrometry (ICAP). Among heavy metals tested, the highest level of Cu and Zn were shown in plants cultivated in Kyung Ki; the highest level of Fe in those in Youngnam and the highest level of Mg and Mn in those in Youngdong. The heavy metal content s were as low as to be permeasible at least for the medicinal plants we selected. There were no significant correlations between heavy metal contents of soils and cultivated medicinal plants.

  • The method for calculation of $Y_2$BaCuO$_{5}$ contents was set up. It was estimated that the optimum value of 211 contents in the textured YBCO superconductor as flux pinning center was about 20wt.%. Ag contents have no influence on the critical temperature, but have large influence on the critical current density of the textured YBCO. When Ag contents over 15wt.%, which was the solubility of condensed YBCO, the critical current densities tend to a stable value.e.
