  • Two novel coordination compounds $[Cu_2(pypya)_3(H_2O)_2]{\cdot}Cl{\cdot}(H_2O)_5$ (1) and $\{[Cd(pypya)(ta)_{1/2}]{\cdot}H_2O\}_n$ (2) (Hpypya=2-(3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)acetic acid, $H_2ta$=terephthalic acid) were synthesized and characterized by single X-ray diffraction. Structure determination reveals that complex 1 and complex 2 crystallize in the triclinic system, with the P-1 space group. The asymmetric unit of 1 contains two Cu(II) ions, and their coordination modes are different. These units of complex 1 are linked together via hydrogen bonds and ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interactions, and the 3D structure of complex 1 was formed. Complex 2, a mononuclear Cd(II) coordination compound, has a 2D structure which was constructed via coordination bonds. TGA and fluorescence spectra analysis of complex 1 and complex 2 have also been studied. In addition, the geometry parameters of complex 1 have been optimized with the B3LYP method of density functional theory (DFT) to explain its coordination behavior. The electronic properties of the complex 1 and ligand Hpypya have been investigated based on the nature bond orbital (NBO) analysis at the B3LYP level of theory. The result verifies that the synergistic effect have occurred in the compound.

  • The Cu(In,Ga)Se2(CIGS) thin film solar cells have been achieved until almost 20% efficiency by NREL. These solar cells include chemically deposited CdS as buffer layer between CIGS absorber layer and ZnO window layer. Although CIGS solar cells with CdS buffer layer show excellent performance, many groups made hard efforts to overcome its disadvantages in terms of high absorption of short wavelength, Cd hazardous element. Among Cd-free candidate materials, the CIGS thin film solar cells with Zn compound buffer layer seem to be promising with 15.2%(module by showa shell K.K.), 18.6%(small area by NREL). However, few groups were successful to report high-efficiency CIGS solar cells with Zn compound buffer layer, compared to be known how to fabricate these solar cells. Each group's chemical bah deposition (CBD) condition is seriously different. It may mean that it is not fully understood to grow high quality Zn compound thin film on the CIGS using CBD. In this study, we focused to clarify growth mechanism of chemically deposited Zn compound thin film on the CIGS, especially. Additionally, we tried to characterize junction properties with unfavorable issues, that is, slow growth rate, imperfect film coverage and minimize these issues. Early works reported that film deposition rate increased with reagent concentration and film covered whole rough CIGS surface. But they did not mention well how film growth of zinc compound evolves homogeneously or heterogeneously and what kinds of defects exist within film that can cause low solar performance. We observed sufficient correlation between growth quality and concentration of NH3 as complex agent. When NH3 concentration increased, thickness of zinc compound increased with dominant heterogeneous growth for high quality film. But the large amounts of NH3 in the solution made many particles of zinc hydroxide due to hydroxide ions. The zinc hydroxides bonded weakly to the CIGS surface have been removed at rinsing after CBD.

  • A clorimetric determination method of pyruvic acid using hydroxylamine was studied. Hydroxylamine was reacted with pyruvic acid to form complex compound in the presence of Cu(II) ion. Optimal conditions for the quantitative analysis were investigated and the structure of complex was examined spectrometrically. The molar ratio (2:1) and the stability constant ($1.88{\times}10^{4}$) of the complex were measured. It was the characteristic feature of this method that the commonly encountered interfering substances such as fructose, glucose and lactic acid do not infuence the measurement of pyruvic acid.

  • We report the preparation, structure and magnetic properties of a new pillared complex, copper(II) hydroxy-1,4-butanedisulfonate, $Cu_2(OH)_3(O_3SC_4H_8SO_3)_{1/2}$. The titled compound was obtained by anion exchange, using copper hydroxyl nitrate $(Cu_2(OH)_3NO_3)$ as the starting material. According to the XRD data, this compound exhibits a pillared layered structure with organic layers tilted between the copper hydroxide layers with a tilt angle of $21.8^{\circ}$. FTIR spectroscopy confirms total exchange of nitrate by the sulfonate and indicates that the sulfonate functions are linked to the copper(II) ions with each aliphatic chain bridging the adjacent hydroxide layers. According to the dc and ac magnetic measurements, the title compound is a metamagnet consisting of spin-canted antiferromagnetic layers, with a Neel temperature of 11.8 K.

  • The electrochemical behaviors of copper-1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol [Cu(II)-TAN] complex in acetonitrile (AN) solution have been investigated by the use of polarography, controlled potential coulometry and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Cu(II)-TAN complex exhibit three reduction waves at -0.91 V, -1.34 V and -1.65 V vs. S.C.E. in acetonitrile solution containing 5.0 ${\times}\;10^{-3}$M tetraethylammonium perchlorate. Every reduction wave is diffusion controlled. The first reduction wave is considerably reversible and this process is attributed to the formation of anion radical. The second reduction process to the dianion is followed by a chemical reaction producing a complex of hydrazo complex. The third reduction process produce Cu(Hg) amalgam and amine compound.

  • A dinuclear copper(II) complex of [$Cu_2(aceace)_4$(dipyph)] [aceace = acetylacetone, dipyph = 1,4-di(4-pyridylethene-2-yl-)benzene] has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/c, with lattice parameters a = 7.9584(16) $\AA$, b = 18.594(4) $\AA$, c = 15.063(4) $\AA$ $\beta=120.97(2)^o$ and $M_r$ = 807.85 ($C_{40}H_{44}Cu_2N_2O_8$), Z = 2. Each of the $Cu^{2+}$ ion adopts a square pyramid geometry and coordinates with four oxygen atoms from two aceace ligands and one nitrogen atom from dipyph bidentate ligand. Magnetic measurement shows that the Weiss constant and Curie constant for the title compound are -0.22 K and 0.1154 emu K/mol, respectively. Thermal stability data indicate that the title complex undergoes two steps decomposition and the residue is $Cu_2O_4$. In the potential range of -1.5 ~ 0.8 V, the title complex represents an irreversible electrochemical process.

  • Treatment of a solution of $CuCl_2$ in dimethyl phosphate (DMP) with DMSO under nitrogen atmosphere afforded to a light blue fluorescence powder. Slow evaporation of $H_2O$-DMSO solution of this powder resulted in blue-sky crystals of a new polymeric Cu(II) complex, with a unit cell composed of $Cu_2(DMP)_4$(DMSO), (1). The crystal and molecular structure of the complex acquired crystallographically. Compound (1) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group $P2_1$/n with a = 12.8920(11) $\AA$, b = 13.1966(11) $\AA$, c = 14.7926(13) $\AA$, $\alpha$ = 90$^{\circ}$, $\beta$ = 98.943(2)$^{\circ}$, $\gamma$ = 90$^{\circ}$, V= 2486.1(4) ${\AA}^3$, and Z = 4. A square pyramidal environment for the metal center was established by coordination of oxygen atoms of four bridging DMP ligands in the basal positions and binding a tri-centered oxygen atom of DMSO in the apical disposition of Cu(II). The sixth position was also affected by a weak interaction with the sulfur atom of another DMSO. The phosphorous atom in the bridging DMP was arranged in a deformed tetrahedron with (gg) conformation for methyl esters with $C_{2v}$ symmetry.

  • Polyamide derived from azo compound of o-amino phenol coupled with acetyl acetone, maleic anhydride acid and p-phenylene diamine were prepared. The prepared polyamide (PA) was refluxed with metal salts of transition metal ions include, $Co^{+2},\;Cr^{+2},\;Ni^{+2},\;Cu^{+2},\;Zn^{+2},\;Cd^{+2}$ and $Fe^{+3}$ in dimethyl formamide (DMF) in different molar ratios. These complexes were characterized and identified by elemental and thermal analysis, IR, 1H NMR spectra. The data showed that PA ligand coordinates with metal ions in abidentate manner through donating N=N and O-H groups. The metal ions are surrounded by coordinated water molecules and anions to establish the geometrical structure of the complexes. The thermal analysis degradation at different temperatures explained the weight loss of hydrated water and the decompositions of complexes until a constant weight loss of metal oxides is obtained.
