In recovering copper from the copper converter slag, various separation methods, such as flotation, sieving and magnetic separation had been tried. The copper converter slag used in this study was prepared in two ways, i.e. 2 hour cooled and 10 hour cooled. From the flotation of copper slag, 45% Cu concentrate is obtained and the amount of copper recovery is about 93%. Before the flotation, copper in the slag could be also pre-recovered using sieving and separation. It is also found that as the content of copper in the concentrate increa-ses, that of arsenic increase, while zinc and iron contents decrease.
A basic study on the recovery of heavy metals such as Zn, Ni, Cu and Fe ions from wastewater was carried out with the spent iron oxide catalyst, which was used in the Styrene Monomer(SM) production company. The heavy metals could be recovered more than 98% with the spent iron oxide catalyst. The alkaline components of the spent catalyst could be precipitated the metal ions of the wastewater as metal hydroxides at the higher pH 10.6 in Ni, pH 8.0 in Cu, pH 6.5 in Fe, pH 8.5 in Zn. But the metal ions are adsorbed physically on the surface of the spent catalyst in the range of the pH of the metal hydroxides and pH 3.0, which is the isoelectric point of the iron oxide catalyst.
In this study, we attempted to separate and recover Cu from low-grade copper ore by a hydrometallurgical process. The leaching sample obtained after crushing and sieving by 0.355 mm of low-grade copper ore contained 1.5% Cu, 4.7% Fe, 1.0% Mn, and 0.3% Zn. The Cu in the oxide ore was very well leached into sulfuric acid and 97% Cu leaching efficiency was achieved at 80℃ and 3 M sulfuric acid (H2SO4). From the leaching solution, Cu was separated by solvent extraction from Fe, Mn, and Zn using LIX984N. The separation tendency between Cu and other metals was confirmed through the distribution ratio and separation factor. By plotting the McCabe-Thiele Diagram, the optimum condition for recovering Cu is 5 vol.% LIX984N, 2-stage counter-current solvent extraction, and an O/A ratio of 0.5. Using this method, 99% of the Cu was extracted and a CuSO4 solution was finally obtained that contained 1.6 g/L Cu after the stripping process using 2 M H2SO4.
In order to study the mineralogical characteristics of a cathodic deposition-metallic powder, electrowinning experiments were carrier out on different electrolytic solutions at varying electric distances and electric currents. Under the same experimental conditions, Cu recovery was obtained much more effectively using a sodium chloride electrolyte than with a sulfuric acid electrolyte. In XRD analysis, copper ($Cu^0$), chalcanthite and cuprite were identified in the sulfuric acid electrolyte, while copper, nantokite and chalcanthite were observed in the sodium chloride electrolyte. In the sodium chloride electrolyte solution, increasing the electric distance and the electric current increased the Cu recovery rate, anode weight and anodic corrosion. The results of XRD analysis with non-pulverized cathodic deposition-metallic powder showed the average copper crystallite size was increased by increasing the electric current and decreasing the electric distance. It is suggested that the mass transfer was controlled with diffusion on the boundary between the electrode and the electrolytic solution due to the formation of dendrite copper.
A Study on the cementation for the recovery of Cu, Ni and Co with Mn metallic powders in leaching solution from the manganese nodule that have removed Fe ions was studied. The results showed that the recovery efficiencies of metal ions with Mn powders increased when the temperature, pH and the concentration of chloride ions were increased in mixed solution. And the recovery efficiencies of Cu was 98% and not changed with the addition amounts of Mn powders but, in case of Co and Ni, the recovery efficiencies were increased with the addition amounts. The particle size of precipitate was about $5\mu\textrm{m}$. From the results of experiment we proposed the two-step cementation process for the recovery of Cu, Ni and Co with Mn powders.

Algal biomass was used in our study in order to remove some metals. After packing of 40~60 mesh algae powder into column for use of metal adsorbent, the metal solution of 1mL/min of flow rate was eluted to adsorb in algae. More amount of Cu(II) or Zn(II) ion in green algae, Ulva pertusa Kjellman than in brown algae, Sargassum horneri (Turner) C. Agarch were adsorbed and Cu(II) ion was more adsorbed in both algae than Zn(II) ion. Recovery of metal from algae is showing higher in acidic or neutral than in alkalic conditions. Cu(II) ion is recovered relatively higher than Zn(II) ion in our system.

Froth flotation of complex copper ore from Indonesia Jambi mine has been carried out to produce high-grade Cu concentrate. Since the ore contained minor Cu sulfides in addition to major Cu carbonate (malachite), copper concentrate was recovered by two-stage process of flotation, which consisted of copper sulfide flotation using xanthate followed by copper oxide flotation using oleic acid. The copper sulfide concentrate of 57.5% Cu grade with 9.5% recovery was obtained by copper sulfide flotation under conditions of 300 g/t collector (1 : 1 mixture of xanthate series Aero Promoter 211 and Aero Promoter 242) and pH 6.0 pulp. In subsequent copper oxide flotation on sink products, the concentrate of 30.8% Cu grade with 92.1% recovery was obtained under the conditions of oleic acid 300 g/t, AF65 50 g/t, pH 8.0 and 2 times cleaning. The flotation techniques which can achieve a Cu grade of 36.1% and a recovery of 92.1% have been developed from the two-stage process of flotation.
In this study, $Fe_2O_3$ was added as a flux to decrease melting temperature and refine during melting of Cu powder from scraped surface of the waste PCB (printed circuit board). The effect of $Fe_2O_3$ ratio to Cu powder and temperature on the recovery of Cu and content of impurities were investigated. It was found that the recovery of Cu was increased with increasing addition ratio of $Fe_2O_3$ and reaction temperature. The contents of O, Si and Fe in Cu phase were also decreased with increasing addition ratio of $Fe_2O_3$ and temperature. The formation of fayalite ($2FeO{\cdot}SiO_2$) and iron oxides phases in the slag was confirmed by XRD analysis after reaction with $Fe_2O_3$. Therefore, it was considered that the decrease of melting temperature and viscosity of slag by formation of fayalite slag contributed remarkably to the Cu recovery.

The adsorption behavior of some chelating agents on the Amberlite XAD-7 resin was studied to obtain the optimum conditions for the preparation of chelating agent-XAD-7 resins. The chosen chelating agents are cupferron (CP), diphenylcarbazone (DPC), salicylaldoxime (SAO), thiosalicylic acid (TSA), and dimethylglyoxime (DMG), which have been well known chelating agents to Cu(Ⅱ) and Ni (Ⅱ) ions. Among the chelating agent-XAD-7 resins, SAO-XAD-7 and DMG-XAD-7 resins were evaluated as appropriate impregnated resins by investigating their stabilities in the wide pH range and high abilities to adsorb Cu(Ⅱ) and Ni(Ⅱ) ions. The selective adsorption of Cu(Ⅱ) from Ni(Ⅱ) was possible by changing pH condition by SAO-XAD-7 resin. The adsorption capacities of SAO-XAD-7 and DMG-XAD-7 for Cu(Ⅱ) were $7{\times}10^{-3}mmol$ Cu(Ⅱ) per gram of resin and $2{\times}10^{-3}mmol$ Cu(Ⅱ) per gram of resin, respectively. The quantitative recovery of Cu(Ⅱ) adsorbed by the resin was demonstrated. The adsorption behavior of Cu(Ⅱ) and Ni(Ⅱ) by the single and mixed bed of chelating agent-XAD-7 resin was discussed.

The purpose of this study was to determine feasibility of application of regenerated or recycled $TiO_2$ on the successive treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA. The recovery of copper, the reuse of $TiO_2$ and the assessment of acute toxicity was studied in the total eight successive photocatalytic reactions. Aqueous solution of $10^{-4}\;M$ Cu(II)-EDTA was treated using an illuminated $TiO_2$ at pH 6 in a circulating reactor. Two different procedures were applied in the reuse of $TiO_2$: i) recycle of $TiO_2$ without acid wash ii) regeneration of $TiO_2$ with acid wash to remove adsorbed copper in a previous experiment. The averaged decomplexation rate constant($k'_{obs}$) of Cu(II)-EDTA in recycle of $TiO_2$ without acid wash was approximately 45% less than that in regeneration of $TiO_2$ with acid wash. Removal of Cu(II) was near complete after 180 minutes in the total eight successive photocatalytic reactions using the regenerated $TiO_2$ after acid wash. In contrast, removal of Cu(II) was minimum at total fifth successive photocatalytic oxidation using the recycled $TiO_2$ without arid wash. The recovered $TiO_2$ was approximately 86% in average in each procedure. The recovered Cu(II) was 67.9% in average. The acute relative toxicity of the treated water rapidly declined at an initial reaction time up to 60 minutes but little declination was observed after 60 minutes due to little degradation of DOC. Relative toxicity of treated water using the recycled $TiO_2$ without acid wash we some what well correlated with the concentration of dissolved Cu(II). From this work, it is suggested that Cu(II)-EDTA can be effectively treated using an integrated cyclic photocatalytic oxidation with recovery of $TiO_2$ and Cu(II).
