  • The interrelation into nucleation and thermodynamic parameters of solutions has been established by plotting of various dependencies: the enthalpy of dissolution, solubility product and super-solubility on ionic salt radii and also the extent of deviation from an ideal Debye -Huckel model of electrolyte solution on solubility product. The possible methods of perfect crystal growth from aqueous solution have been found a priori by separating of known set of pair values of solubility and super-solubility into no less than six-nine characteristic and distinctive sub-sets.

  • During the growth of macroscopically dislocation-free Czochralski silicon crystal, micro precipitates causing stacking faults in the silicon wafer during the oxidation are formed Thermal history the cryscausing acquire during the growth process is known to be a key factor determining the nucleation of this micro precipitates. In this article, various mechanisms suggested on the formation of microdefects in the silicon crystal are reviewed to secure the nucleation mechanism of the micro precipitates causing OSF whose pattern is normally ring or annular in CZ silicon crytal. B-defects which are known as vacancy clustering are considered to be the heterogeneous nucleation sites for the micro precipitates causing OSF in the CZ silicon crystals.

  • The crystallization of $Li_2O-SiO_2$ system glasses and the effect of phase separtion to crystal nucleation were studied. The crystallization temperatures of various glasses were determined by DTA and glasses were nucleation heat treated at the temperatures ranging from 45$0^{\circ}C$ to 5$25^{\circ}C$. These glasses were thengown at $700^{\circ}C$ to observable size in the optical microscope. Crystal nucleation rates of various glasses were obtained by estimating the number of crystals per unit volume. The main crystal phase of these glasses identified by X-ray diffraction was lithium disilicate ($Li_2O$.$2SiO_2$). It was found that the crystal nucleation rate of glass (19.5% $Li_2P$-80.5% $SiO_2$), the nearest composition to lithium disilicate, was higher than other glasses. The opalescence caused by phase separation was observed in the nucleation heat treated glass (16.3% $Li_2O$-83.7% $SiO_2$). The result from nucleation density measurement of this glass indicated that the nucleation was enhanced during early stage of phase separation. The molphologies of crystals in glasses and crystal growth rate at $600^{\circ}C$ were also discussed.

  • Glass-ceramics containing a cordierite (2MgO-2Al2O3-5SiO2) as a main crystal phase was prepared from MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system glass through a controlled 2-step heat treatment for the application to magnetic memory disk substrate for higher storage capacity. Parent glasses prepared with addition of CeO2 as a fulx and TiO2 as a nucleating agent were crystallized by a 2-step heat treatment i.e. nucleation and crystal grwoth. Then the maximum nucleation and crystal growth rates were investigated and several properties such as bending strength, surface hardness and surface roughness were also studied for heat treated glass. As a result, only a $\alpha$-cordierite was precipitated as a main crystal phase for all heat treatment conditions and the maximum nucleation and crystal growth rates were 2.4$\times$109/㎣.hr at 80$0^{\circ}C$ and 0.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/hr at 915$^{\circ}C$ respectively. After being nucleated at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours and then crystallized at 915$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, the heat treated glass had a crystal volume fraction of 17.6% and crystal size fo 0.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and showed the optimum properties for the application to magnetic memory disk substrates as follows. ; Bending strength of 192 MPa, Vidkers hardness of 642.1kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$, and surface roughness of 27$\AA$.

  • Issues of ferroelectric high-density memories (>64 Mb) indispensable for upcoming ubiquitous era have been on the cell integration less than $0.1\;\mu\textrm{m}^2$ and reliabilities. Thus nanoscale control of microstructures of ferroelectric films with large switching polarization has been one of the issues to obtain the uniform electrical properties for realization of high-density memories. In this study the grain orientations and distributions of BT-based films by spin-on coatings were examined by FEG-SEM/EBSD. Ferroelectric domain characteristics by PFM were also performed to study the dependence of reliabilities on the grain orientations and distributions. It is believed that understandings of the nucleation and growth mechanisms of the a- or b-axis oriented films during the thermal processes such as RTA and furnace annealing affecting on grain orientation and uniformity could be possible based on our experimental results.

  • The growth mechanism of AMT(Ammonium Meta-Tungstate) crystal was interpreted as two-step model. The contribution of the diffusion step increased with the increase of temperature, crystal size, and supersaturation. The crystal size distribution from a batch cooling crystallizer was predicted by the numerical solution of a mathematical model which uses the kinetics of nucleation and crystal growth. Temperature control of a batch crystallizer was studied using Learning control algorithm. The purity of AMT crystal producted in this investigation was above 99.99%.

  • Dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) was carried out to study the nucleation and crystal growth process of $CeO_2$ nanoparticles in different alcohol aqueous solutions. The results showed that the nucleation and crystal growth process of $CeO_2$ can be classified into three stages: nuclei growth, crystal stabilization and crystal aggregation except the initial induction stage, which could be reproduced by collecting simulation results after different simulation time. Properly selecting the sizes of $CeO_2$ and water bead was crucial in the simulation system. The influence of alcohol type and content in solutions, and precipitation temperature on the particle dimension were investigated in detail and compared with the experimental results. The consistency between simulation results and experimental data verify that the simulation can reproduce the macroscopic particle aggregation process. The effect of solvent on the nucleation and crystal growth of $CeO_2$ nanoparticles are different at three stages and can not be simply described by Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) theory or nucleation thermodynamics theory. Our work demonstrated that DPD methods can be applied to study nanoparticle forming process.
