Infant Crying Acoustic Characteristics Evoking Unpleasant Emotions in Mothers

  • This study examines the infant crying acoustic characteristics likely to arouse negative emotions and distress in mothers. We used samples of infant crying from three situations (hunger, pain, and the mother's absence) in six healthy infants over six months. We played the recordings of infants crying to 90 mothers in the care of infants and had them self-evaluate emotions and feelings. In addition, the sounds were analyzed acoustically through a CSL4400 to analyze frequency, energy, total expiratory time, and the number of the expirations. In this study, cries due to pain and the absence of the mother caused more unpleasant emotions and irritation in comparison to the infant sounds of hunger. In particular, crying from the absence of the mother caused the most distress. An analysis of these sounds showed that crying in the situations of pain and the absence of the mother were strong in frequency, high energy, and prolonged. These results suggest a relation between infant crying acoustical characteristics and the feelings of distress by the mother.

Comparison of Effectiveness of Manual Therapy for Infant Crying: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

  • Objectives: The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to assess and compare the effectiveness of manual therapy in alleviating infant crying, a common symptom of nocturnal crying (NC) and infantile colic (IC). Methods: Total effective rate, crying time and adverse events were used as outcome indicators. To assess the quality, the risk of bias was determined for each study by two authors, using the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool. RevMan 5.0 was used for data analysis. A total of 98 articles were identified from 6 electronic databases. Results: Among them, twenty-seven studies which included 13 NC and 14 IC were included. Meta-analysis showed favorable effects tuina therapy on total effective rate (TER) of NC (RR: 1.20 [95% CI 1.05 to 1.37], p = 0.007), chiropractic therapy on crying time change of IC (SMD: -0.83 [95% CI -1.61 to -0.06], p = 0.04) and massage on total crying time of IC (SMD: -0.86 [95% CI -1.09 to -0.63], p < 0.00001). This systematic review compares different manual therapies for the treatment of NC and IC. While tuina, chiropractic, and massage show results in alleviating symptoms, the overall evidence remains limited due to the low quality and heterogeneity of the included studies. Conclusion: Therefore, further high-quality research with unified control groups is needed to establish manual therapy as a recommended treatment option for NC and IC.   • An infant of a baby child who haven't communication skills through a language expresses their intention or baby condition as generally crying. Among these things, it is important to show a baby condition because their disease miss diagnosis time or remain to decide an exact diagnosis result too hard. For this, in this paper, we are going to develop system which decides where to be not good body point by analysing their face color and crying sound. Specifically, in this paper, we are going to act for baby heart diseases by doing feature extraction for their face region color and crying sound. To embody, we are going to present diagnosis method and compare analyze their crying sound a stand child, a different diseases child and a baby heart diseases child through each analyzed element. And also, we are going to extract matters to be attended to baby heart diseases through experiment and prepare objective index and an accuracy of baby heart diseases diagnosis result.

  • Due to poor linguistic communication skills of sucklings and infants, crying mostly is only means of communication to express their body conditions and desires. We, therefore, developed an infant auscultation system which detects which part of the body has a pathological problem, by analysing infant's crying sound patterns. Specifically, in this paper, we accomplished an auscultation system for congenital heart diseases detection by performing pitch, intensity and spectrum analysis of the crying sounds between the normal infants group and the congenital heart diseases group. With this system, we can diagnose congenital heart diseases of infants with poor communication capacity, and, in the near future, can build a home care diagnosis system based on crying sound analysis technologies through additional experiments on medical data.

A Qualitative Study on Traditional Korean Medicine Treatment for Child Patients with Night Crying - With a Focus on Descriptions by Main Fosterers - (야제 환아의 한의치료에 대한 질적 연구 - 주양육자의 서술을 중심으로 -)

  • Objectives This study sets out to examine treatment experiences of child patients with night crying based on the traditional Korean medicine. Also, the study traces the process in which clients chose traditional Korean medicine treatment, and proposes a possible future direction of Korean medicine treatment. Methods The investigator conducted a semi-standardized open-ended question interview with two main fosterers of a child who received traditional Korean medicine treatment for night crying, and examined two fosterers' experiences of a child with the traditional Korean medicine treatment. Their interviews were recorded with their facial expressions and acts for analysis. Collected data was analyzed based on the Grounded theory. Results The participants felt a sense of responsibility, worry, and fear for their children with night crying. They had easy access to traditional Korean medicine doctors who were in the community and had positive experiences with traditional Korean medicine treatment. They reported that some people had been forced to use traditional Korean medicine, had misunderstandings about traditional Korean medicine, and had prejudice that night crying is not a disease. They felt there was a room for improvement in terms of the high medical expenses and the absence of a cooperative system between Oriental and Western medicine. Conclusions As the first qualitative study on night crying based on the traditional Korean medicine treatment, this study proposed a future direction for traditional Korean medicine treatment for night crying in the shoes of fosterers. The findings showed that the fosterers chose traditional Korean medicine treatment for night crying child based on their feelings, accessibility and experiences with traditional Korean medicine. Fosterers felt a need for improvement of the general public's perceptions about Korean medicine treatment on night crying, and a cooperative system between Oriental and Western medicine.

Chuna Manual Therapy for Nocturnal Crying; A Systematic Review (소아 야제에 대한 추나요법 효과; 체계적 문헌고찰)

  • Objectives To evaluate the evidence supporting the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy for nocturnal crying. Methods We conducted search across the 3 electronic databases (Pubmed, CAJ and Oasis) to find all of randomized controlled clinical trials(RCTs) that used Chuna manual therapy as a treatment for nocturnal crying. The methodological quality of each RCTs was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and nRCTs was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment tool for Non-randomized Study tool. Results Two RCTs and three nRCTs met our inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed positive results for the use of Chuna manual therapy in terms of the efficacy rate when compared to medication treatments alone. Positive results were also obtained, in terms of the efficacy rate, when comparing Chuna manual therapy combined with acupoint application therapy to Chuna manual therapy alone, but was not statistically significant. Conclusions Our systematic review found encouraging but limited evidence of Chuna manual therapy for nocturnal crying. We recommend clinical trials which compare the effectiveness of Chuna manual therapy with usual care to obtain stronger evidence without the demerits of trial design.

So infant respiratory put case stimulus diseases about all voice organs and experiment the analysis method through the bandwidth about phonetics analysis component that comparison normal infant with take a respiratory infant. Through these method, we were extracted to results that infant's frequency bandwidth suffering from respiratory diseases than a normal infant is short.

  • Pathological laughing and crying(PLC) is a condition that is characterized by episodic, brief, contextually inappropriate, uncontrollable outbursts of laughing and/or crying. It can be observed in patients with various neurological disorders. PLC often causes distress in interpersonal functioning and activities for patients and their families. PLC can be recognized easily with proper understanding of the condition and its nature. Also it generally shows good response to various pharmacological treatments. This review aims to encourage the diagnosis and treatment of PLC by providing definition and clinical presentation of PLC, analysis of its pathophysiology and various current treatment options.

  • Recently, various health care methods for infants have been suggested in the impending era of low birth rate society. We propose, in this context, an early diagnosis method for common infant respiratory diseases. Particularly, the method is regarding infant cold and infant pneumonia. Firstly, sounds of infant crying, only expressing means of infants, among the infant cold group and the infant pneumonia group are compared and examined to find the differences from those among the healthy infant group. For this, the link between infected organs and articulatory organs is investigated. Also, resulting wave forms and frequency bandwidths among each group are compared and analyzed, by using the spectrum for a component voice, to diagnose the infant cold and pneumonia. Finally, the effectiveness of this method is verified through the experiments.

  • There is no method to control for the child efficiently when disease happens who cannot be able to express his symptoms. Therefore, doctor's diagnosis depends on inquiring from child's patients, that leads to wrong diagnosis result. For this, in this paper, we would like to develop child ocular inspection, auscultation diagnosis instruments, using Oriental medicine principle that living body signal of five organs and six hallow organs which reflects patients face and voice We would like to get more accurate diagnosis result for child's symptoms from doctor's intuition on the basis of diagnostic sight visualization, objectification, quantization itself. This paper develops color revision, YCbCr application, and face color selection and five sensory organs and nose or apex extraction method etc, in child ocular inspection by first work achievement sequence among the whole development systems. Also, in occasion of child auscultation, crying characteristics of colics through pitch, intensity and formant analysis is numerized and objectifies doctor's intuition through this. Finally, experiments are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
