A method of human error management in chemical process industries (화학공정산업의 인적오류 제어 방법)

  • To prevent major accident from toxic gas release, explosion, or fire in chemical processes, it needs dynamic control of human error with mechanical failure. Although most of major accidents occur with a coupling of human error and mechanical failure, numbers of researches have studied human error and mechanical reliability independently, but no where cross each other, to reduce the risk in the process. This work focuses on the coincidence of human error and mechanical failure for management of human error, and on some important performance shaping factors to propose a method for improving safety effectively of the process industries.

Die-to-Die Parasitic Extraction Targeting Face-to-Face Bonded 3D ICs

  • Face-to-face (F2F) bonding in three-dimensional integrated circuits (3D ICs), compared with other bonding styles, is closer to commercialization because of its benefits in terms of density, yield, and cost. However, despite the benefits that F2F bonding expect to provide, it's physical nature has not been studied thoroughly. In this study, we, for the first time, extract cross-die (inter-die) parasitic elements from F2F bonds on the full-chip scale and compare them with the intra-die elements. This allows us to demonstrate the significant impact of field sharing across dies in F2F bonding on full-chip noise and critical path delay values. The baseline method used is the die-by-die method, where the parasitic elements of individual dies are extracted separately and the cross-die parasitic elements are ignored. Compared with this inaccurate method, which was the only method available until now, our first-of-its-kind holistic method corrects the delay error by 25.48% and the noise error by 175%.

  • This paper deals with a novel utilization method of the predicted current in the high performance PI current controller with a control time delay. The inevitable error of the predicted current in the linear servo drive using a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor is analyzed and a modified cross-coupling decoupling synchronous frame PI current controller is proposed in order to improve the current control response under both the control time delay and the inevitable current prediction error. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current controller has an improved current control performance under both the control time delay and the inevitable current prediction error in the servo drive system.

  • The longitude and latitude of a geosynchronous satellite are not defined as a point in space because of various external perturbations. To perform the missions of a satellite for a communication and broadcasting, the satellite must be positioned within a predefined station keeping box in given limited space longitude. In this study, we propose east-west station keeping box larger than that of north-south station. By using the derived error equation, we verified the Koreasat station keeping box allocation by assuming one week and two weeks of station keeping cycle.

  • This paper presents the development of a deadweight type 6-component force/moment generator for estimating characteristics of multi-component loadcell. Several new methods in moment generation are introduced in order to produce accurate force / moment and to minimize coupling effect between each force or moment components. In order to verify the reliability of the calibration system developed, estimation of the method for generating moment components and cross measurements between force or moment components are carried out utilizing a commercial torque cell and both-ends fixed beam designed in this paper.

  • This paper presents comparative experimental results of PI sliding mode control and PI control for a heavy duty robot which can handle an object of 600kg, The gains of the PI control was determined by TAE(Trial and Error) method. This paper presents a novel approach for the decoupling of the states cross-coupling using sliding mode control. The sliding mode control methode is based on the error between reference speeds and the actual speed. The proposed method has the advantages of PI control performance and the sliding mode control robustness. Its first step is to design PI controller, then the sliding mode control input term is added to it. This makes actual implementation of the controller easier. The robot and motion controllers were designed and made by author. The good control performance of the heavy duty robot was obtained by using simple algorithm. This means that the robot was designed very well in control respect.

Input Shaping for Servo Control of Machine Tools (공작기계의 서보제어와 입력성형기법)

  • Servo control loops are a core part in the control architecture of machine tools. Servo control loops manage acceleration, velocity and position of all the axes in a machine tool based on commands. The performance of servo control loops sets the basis for quality of production paris and cycle time reduction. First, this paper presents a general control architecture of machine tools and several control schemes in literature, which can be applicable to machine tools control; including Zero Phase Error Tracking Control (ZPETC) and Cross Coupling Control (CCC). After that, modem control strategies to mitigate the problem of high speed machining are reviewed. In high speed machining, high accelerations excite the machine structure up to high frequencies, thereby exciting the structure's modes of vibration. These structural vibrations need to be damped if accurate positioning or trajectory following is required. Input shaping is an attractive option in dealing with structural vibrations. The advantages and drawbacks of using input shaping technique for machine tools are discussed in detail.

  • The current control for interior permanent magnet machines is more complicate than surface permanent magnet machine because of its torque characteristic depending on the reluctance. For high performance torque control, it requires state decoupling between the d-current and q-current dynamics. However the variation of the inductances, which couples the state dynamics of the currents, makes the state decoupling difficult. So some decoupling methods have developed to cope this variations and each current can be regulated independently. This paper presents a novel approach for fully decoupling the states cross-coupling using parameter adaptation. The adaptation method is based on the error between reference currents and the currents with state decoupling which have to follow the references. This method is more object-oriented than the other online parameter estimation methods in IPM machine and other electrical machines

  • This paper deals with a novel utilization method of the predicted current in the high performance PI current controller with a control time delay. The inevitable error of the predicted current in the linear servo drive using a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor is analyzed and a modified cross-coupling decoupling synchronous frame PI current controller is proposed in order to improve the current control response under the control time delay. Accurate Evaluation of Polarization Characteristics in the Integrated Optic Chip for Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscope Based on Path-matched Interferometry

  • Accurate evaluation of polarization characteristics in the integrated optic chip (IOC) for interferometric fiber optic gyroscope was performed. Spatial distribution of optical wavetrains caused by the polarization parameters such as local polarization cross-coupling and polarization rejection coefficient of the IOC were measured utilizing the path-matched optical coherence domain polarimetry (PM-OCDP). With the analytic model deduced from Jones matrix representation, we could accurately identify the polarization characteristics of the IOC. Both degree of measurement error due to the imperfect equipment conditions in PM-OCDP and birefringence of IOC chip were also characterized.
