The electron transport coefficients in argon gas is studied over the range of E/N values from 85 to 566 Td by the Monte Carlo method considering the latest cross section data. The result of the Monte Carlo method analysis shows that the value of the electron transport coefficients such as the electron drift velocity, the ratio of the longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients to the mobility. It is also found that the electron transport coefficients calculated by the two-term approximation analysis agree well with those by Monte Carlo calculation. The electron energy distributions function were analysed in argon at E/N=283, and 566 Td for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy. A momentum transfer cross section for the argon atom which was consistent with both of the present electron transport coefficients was derived over the range of mean electron energy from 10.3 to 14.5 eV, also suggested as a set of electron cross section for argon atom. The validity of the results obtained has been confirmed by a Monte Carlo simulation method.
Based on the observation that ignoring the angle dependency of multigroup resonance cross sections within a fuel pellet would result in nontrivial underestimation of the spatial self-shielding of flux, a parametrized spectral superhomogenization (SPH) factor library (PSSL) method is developed as a practical means of resolving the problem. Region-wise spectral SPH factors are calculated by the normal and transport corrected SPH iterations after ultrafine group slowing down calculations over various light water reactor pin-cell configurations. The parametrization is done with fuel temperature, U-238 number density, fuel radius, moderator source represented by ${\Sigma}_{mod}V_{mod}$, and the number density ratio of resonance nuclides to that of U-238 in a form of resonance interference correction factors. The parametrization is successful in that the root mean square errors of the interpolated SPH factors over the fuel regions of various pin-cells are within 0.1%. The improvement in reactivity error of the PSSL method is shown to be superior to that by the original SPH method in that the reactivity bias of -200 pcm to -300 pcm vanishes almost completely. It is demonstrated that the environment effect takes only about 4% in the reactivity improvement so that the pin-cell based PSSL method is effective in the assembly problems.
Oscillations in a sunspot are easily detected through the Doppler velocity observation. Although the sunspot oscillations look erratic, the wavelet analysis show that they consist of successive wave packets which have strong power near three or five minutes. Previous studies found that 3-min oscillation at the chromosphere is a visual pattern of upward propagating acoustic waves along the magnetic field lines. Resent multi-height observations help this like vertical study, however, we also focus on horizontal facet to extend three dimensional understand of sunspot waves. So, we investigate a fragmented sunspot expected to have complex wave profiles according to the positions in the sunspot observed by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph. We choose 4 points at different umbral cores as sampling positions to determine coherence of oscillations. The sets of cross-correlation with three and five minutes bandpass filters during a single wave packet reveal interesting results. Na I line show weak correlations with some lags, but Fe I and Ni I have strong correlations with no phase difference over the sunspots. It is more remarkable at Ni I line with 3-min bandpass that all sets of cross-correlation look like the autocorrelation. We can interpret this as sunspot oscillations occur spontaneously over a sunspot at photosphere but not at chromosphere. It implies a larger or deeper origin of 3-min sunspot oscillation.

Using the frequency-based decomposition, I decompose the consumption growth to explain well-known patterns of stock returns in the Korean market. To be more specific, the consumption growth is decomposed by its half-life of shocks. The component over four years of half-life is called the business-cycle consumption component, and the components with half-lives under four years are short-run components. I compute the long-run and short-run components of stock excess returns as well and use component-by-component sensitivities to price stock portfolios. As a result, the business-cycle consumption risk with half-life of over four years is useful in explaining the cross-section of size-book-to-market portfolios and size-momentum portfolios in the Korean stock market. The short-run components have their own pricing abilities with mixed direction, so that the restricted one short-term factor model is rejected. The explanatory power with short- and long-run components is comparable to that of the Fama-French three-factor model. The components with one- to four-year half-lives are also helpful in explaining the returns. The results about the long-run components emphasize the importance of long-run component in consumption growth to explain the asset returns.
Structural pipe-in-pipe cross-sections have significant potential for application in offshore oil and gas production systems because of their property that combines insulation performance with structural strength in an integrated way. Such cross-sections comprise inner and outer thin walled pipes with the annulus between them fully filled by a selectable thick filler material to impart an appropriate combination of properties. Structural pipe-in-pipe cross-sections can exhibit several different collapse mechanisms and the basis of the preferential occurrence of one over others is of interest. This paper presents an elastic analyses of a structural pipe-in-pipe cross-section when subjected to external hydrostatic pressure. It formulates and solves the static and elastic buckling problem using the variational principle of minimum potential energy. The paper also investigates a simplified formulation of the problem where the outer pipe and its contact with the filler material is considered as a 'pipe on an elastic foundation'. Results are presented to show the variation of elastic buckling pressure with the relative elastic modulus of the filler and pipe materials, the filler thickness and the thicknesses of the inner and outer pipes. The range of applicability of the simplified 'pipe on an elastic foundation' analysis is also presented. A brief review of the types of materials that could be used as the filler is combined with the results of the analysis to draw conclusions about elastic buckling behaviour of structural pipe-in-pipe cross-sections.
A large cross-section pulsed electron beam generator of cold cathode type has been developed for industrial applications, for example, waste water cleaning, flue gas cleaning, and pasteurization etc. The operational principle is based on the emission of secondary electrons from cold cathode when ions in the plasma hit the cathode, which are accelerated toward exit window by the gradient of an electric potential. The conventional electron beam generators need an electron scanning beam because the small cross section thermal electron emitter is used. The electron beam of large cross-section pulsed electron beam generator do not need to be scanned over target material because the beam cross section is large by 300$cm^2$. We have fabricated the large cross-sectional pulsed electron beam generator with the peak energy of 200keV and beam diameter of 200mm and obtained the large area electron beam in the air. The electron beam current has been investigated as a function of accelerating voltage, glow discharge current, helium pressure, distance from the exit window and radial distribution in front of the exit window.
This paper discusses general methods of modelling magnetic saturation in steady-state, two-axis (d & q) frame models of dual stator induction generators (DSIG). In particular, the important role of the magnetic coupling between the d-q axes (cross-magnetizing phenomenon) is demonstrated, with and without cross-saturation. For that purpose, two distinct models of DSIGs, with and without cross-saturation, are specified. These two models are verified by an application that is sensitive to the presence of cross-saturation, to prove the validity of these final methods and the equivalence between all developed models. Advantages of some of the models over the existing ones and their applicability are discussed. In addition, an alternative is given to evaluate all saturation factors (static and dynamic) by just calculating the static magnetizing inductance which is simply the magnitude of the ratio of the magnetizing flux to the current. The comparison between the simulation results of the proposed model with experimental results gives a good correspondence, especially at startup.
Cross-sell models are used to predict the probability or value of a current customer buying a different product or service from the same company. Selling to current customers is one of the easiest way to increase profits and allows companies to carefully manage offers to avoid over-soliciting and possibly alienating their customers. In this study, by using the real database of an insurance company in Korea, we try to explain the steps of actual data mining process. Especially, this study aims to develop cross-sell models to predict the probability which a current customer of automobile insurance buys long-term insurance product.
Cross-border online shopping is an example of non-mobile transnational consumption behavior that has become more popular over the last decade due to the development of technology and transportation. Based on the Theory of Reasoned Action(TRA), this study proposed and tested the hypothesized model that would explain the relationships among consumption beliefs, attitudes toward cross-border online shopping, subjective norms, and purchase intention. Consumption beliefs were measured by global consumption orientation, consumer orientation, and global brand beliefs. In addition, subjective norms included two types: online and offline norms. Descriptive statistics and path analysis were employed for the analysis of the dataset of 174 participants. As a result, the hypothesized model was generally supported. Consistent with the hypothesis, global consumption orientation and global brand beliefs were positively related to positive attitudes toward cross-border online shopping but negatively associated with consumer ethnocentrism. Offline subjective norms positively predicted both the attitudes and purchase intention whereas online subjective norms only predicted purchase intention. The results reflected that TRA was applicable to the intention of cross-border online shopping in a current on-line shopping context. We also discussed the practical applications and limitations of the study.
Water softening is a very promising field for membranes and especially ultra low pressure membranes. Nanofiltration membranes based on pore-filling technology was prepared by using a new technique: the in-situ cross-linking. This route involves introducing a pre-formed polymer into the pores of a host membrane and then locking the polymer in the pores by in-situ cross-linking with an appropriate reagent. By this way, it is possible to make robust and competitive, pore-filled, anion-exchange membranes with excellent control over the properties of the incorporated gel without affecting the host membrane. In this paper, the possibilities of tuning such membranes for ultra low pressure water softening was examined by altering pore-filling chemistry (by changing cross-linking and aminating reagents). The results showed that tuning the chemistry of the pore-filling has important effects. In particularly, it had been shown that the correct selection of cross-linking reagent was not only essential to get pore-filled membranes but it could control their properties. Moreover, the aminating reagent could improve membrane performance. It was found that an increase in hydrophobicity could improve the Darcy permeability.
