In this study, the urban runoff models, ILLUDAS model and SWMM, are analyzed the probable peak discharge and discharge using rainfall distribution by Huff's method at Bum-uh chun area in Taegu city. The probability rainfall and intensity is analyzed by Pearson-III type. The rainfall duration, 90 minutes, is determined by the critical duration computed the maximun peak discharge for some rainfall durations. The peak discharge according to Huff's rainfall distribution types compute in order of type 3, type 4, type2, and type 1, so Huff's 3 type is selected as an adequate rainfall distribution in Bum-uh chun basin. ILLUDAS model and SWMM are shown as good models in Bum-uh chun, but SWMM is computed higher peak discharge than ILLUDAS model, so SWMM is shown as the adequate urban runoff model for the design of interior drainage in urban basin.
Many methods of estimating design floods from rainfall data involve a trial and error procedure to determine the duration of the design rainfall, which is very complicated and time-consuming. In this study, an effort was given to derive an analytical expression for estimating the appropriate duration for use with a particular unit hydrograph. According to the so-derived analytical expression the coordinateds of hvdrograph curve and rainfall curve for the Musim Representative Basin were computed and then plotted on a same scal graph paper on which the critical durations of design rainfall excess of various recurrence intervals were determined by the point of intersection of the tow curves.

Automated rainfall warning system is a facility to prevent casualties who were recreating in the down stream region with operating lead broadcasting or signaling warning automatically when torrential rainfall occurs in mountainous area. But standard of conventional warning does not consider the characteristics of basin, and warning signal. Evacuation signal 1 and evacuation signal 2 are uniformly signaled when the 10minute moving total of observed rainfall is higher than 4 mm, 6 mm, and 8 mm respectively. therefore, local governments and relative agencies had re-established the standard of warning by analyzing the risk water level, critical discharge and reference rainfall, which are considering the characteristics of basin. In this study the standard of conventional and re-established warning of weolseong basin, which is available to acquire a real rainfall. There are analyzed by considering the risk water level, critcal discharge and reference rainfall. Also this study compares rainfall of conventional and re-established warning standard and indentifies problems by analyzing adequacy of rainfall estimation for warning and proposes alternative. The standard of conventional warning which investigates with the converted rainfall(unit of a minute) issued too many alarm. The re-established standard upward has the necessity which will be regulated about the alarm announcement number of times. Considers the safety, upward regulation of alarm standard rainfall is a necessity which will be prudent.
The occurrence condition of debris fiow due to rainfall is given by solving the equations for fiow on a slope. The solution shows that a debris fiow will occur on a slope when the accumulated rainfall within the time of concentration exceeds a certain value determined by the properties of the slope. To estimate this critical value, the system analysis technique would be commendable. In this study, a procedure to fine the critical rainfall from the rainfall data whith and without debris flows is proposed. Reliability of this method is verified by applying to the debris flows in Unzen Volcano which recently began to erupt. Discharge of debris flow in a stream is obtained by solving the equation of continuity using the kinematic wave theory and assuming the cross sectional area to be a function of discharge. The computed hydrographs agree weel with the ones observed at the rivers in Sakurajima and Unzen Volcanos. It is found from the derived equation that the runoff intensity of debris flow is in proportion to the rainfall intensity and accumulated rainfall, jointly. This gives a theoretical basis to the conventional method which has been widely used.

In this study, localized heavy rainfall occurred during the collapse of steep slopes adjacent to the construction site and to ensure the safety of residents to build an early warning system was performed. Forecast/Alert range was estimated based on vulnerability landslide map and past disaster history. And established a critical line in consideration of the characteristics of local rainfall and operating a snake line, the study calculated causing and non-causing points. Also, be measured in real-time analysis of rainfall data in conjunction with the system before the steep slope failure occurred forecast/Alert System is presented.
This paper aims at the investigation of various seepage behavior when rainfall infiltarates into unsaturated ground and understanding of the mechanism for slope instability due to rainfall. For this purpose an experimental study is carried out for model slopes using the test equipment which can simulate various rainfall intensity. In addition, a numerical study is performed for the same dimension and boundary condition as the experimental model. From both the experimental test and numerical analysis the progress of wetting front with time, critical amounts of rainfall, and pore-water pressure development with time are know in detail and their effects on slope stability are described.

In the case that construcion period is delayed because of the force majeure such as a typhoon or a flood, the owners in general should compensate the damages caused by those. But with exception the weather worsening of ordinary level is paid by contractors, while that of exceptional level by the owners. It is critical that it is difficult to distinguish objectively between ordinary and exceptional level weather worsening. Although the term of "ordinary" itself is too abstractive, we can reduce the disputes between owners and contractors by setting the appropriate and objective standard of distinction. For example in the case of rainfall it may be the standard of distinction whether the days of actual rainfall exceed those of average rainfall or not. If the days of actual rainfall don't exceed those of average rainfall contracters should pay the damages because it is distinguished with a ordinary level weather worsening. Besides the standard of distinction in another weather worsening such as severe cold/hot, strong wind etc. which have a effect on delaying the term of works could be settled as a similar model.

The rainfall frequency estimations are critical in the design of hydraulic structures (such as bridges and culverts) to ensure that they are built economically and safely. In other words, they are not over designed or under designed. However one of the main assumptions in the creation of these analysis is that the rainfall data for a site is stationary. That is, climatic trends and variability in a region have negligible effects on the curves. But as has been proved in recent history, climatic variability and trends do exist and their effects on precipitation have not been negligible. Increasing occurrences of the El Nino phenomenon have lead to droughts and floods around the world, and long term trends in rainfall, both increases and decreases, have been seen in all regions across Korea. The purpose of this paper is to investigate and evaluate impacts of ENSO on rainfall characteries and rainfall frequency estimations in Korea. In this paper, The available rainfall data were categorized into Warm(EL Nino), Cold(La Nina), Normal episodes based on the Cold & Warm Episodes by Season then 50 years of daily rainfall data were generated for each episodic events(EL Nino, La Nina)
Landslides pose significant threats to many countries globally, yet the development and implementation of effective landslide early warning systems (LEWS) remain challenging due to multifaceted complexities spanning scientific, technological, and political domains. Addressing these challenges demands a holistic approach. Technologically, integrating thresholds, such as rainfall thresholds, with real-time data within accessible, open-source software stands as a promising solution for LEWS. This article introduces LandScient_EWS, a PHP-based program tailored to address this need. The software facilitates the comparison of real-time measured data, such as rainfall, with predefined landslide thresholds, enabling precise calculations and graphical representation of real-time landslide advisory levels across diverse spatial scales, including regional, basin, and hillslope levels. To illustrate its efficacy, the program was applied to a case study in Medellin, Colombia, where a rainfall event on August 26, 2008, triggered a shallow landslide. Through pre-defined rainfall intensity and duration thresholds, the software simulated advisory levels during the recorded rainfall event, utilizing data from a rain gauge positioned within a small watershed and a single grid cell (representing a hillslope) within that watershed. By identifying critical conditions that may lead to landslides in real-time scenarios, LandScient_EWS offers a new paradigm for assessing and responding to landslide hazards, thereby improving the efficiency and effectiveness of LEWS. The findings underscore the software's potential to streamline the integration of rainfall thresholds into both existing and future landslide early warning systems.
Purpose: For smooth performance of flood analysis due to heavy rain disasters at energy storage facilities in the Incheon area, field surveys, observational surveys, and pre-established reports and drawings were analyzed. Through the field survey, the characteristics of pipelines and rivers that have not been identified so far were investigated, and based on this, the input data of the SWMM model selected for inundation analysis was constructed. Method: In order to determine the critical duration through the probability flood analysis according to the calculation of the probability rainfall intensity by recurrence period and duration, it is necessary to calculate the probability rainfall intensity for an arbitrary duration by frequency, so the research results of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs were utilized. Result: Based on this, the probability of rainfall by frequency and duration was extracted, the critical duration was determined through flood analysis, and the rainfall amount suggested in the disaster prevention performance target was applied to enable site safety review. Conclusion: The critical duration of the base was found to be a relatively short duration of 30 minutes due to the very gentle slope of the watershed. In general, if the critical duration is less than 30 minutes, even if flooding occurs, the scale of inundation is not large.
