  • FPGA-based logic emulator with lane gate capacity generally comprises a large number of FPGAs connected in mesh or crossbar topology. However, gate utilization of FPGAs and speed of emulation are limited by the number of signal pins among FPGAs and the interconnection architecture of the logic emulator. The time-multiplexing of interconnection wires is required for multi-FPGA system incorporating several state-of-the-art FPGAs. This paper proposes a circuit partitioning algorithm called SCATOMi(SCheduling driven Algorithm for TOMi)for multi-FPGA system incorporating four to eight FPGAs where FPGAs are interconnected through TOMi(Time-multiplexed, Off-chip, Multicasting interconnection). SCATOMi improves the performance of TOMi architecture by limiting the number of inter-FPGA signal transfers on the critical path and considering the scheduling of inter-FPGA signal transfers. The performance of the partitioning result of SCATOMi is 5.5 times faster than traditional partitioning algorithms. Architecture comparison show that the pin count is reduced to 15.2%-81.3% while the critical path delay is reduced to 46.1%-67.6% compared to traditional architectures.

  • This study was conducted in a Korean airline catering operation where about 8, 000~10, 000 in flight meals per day were served. Time ad temperature observations were made in an actual airline catering operation to determine critical control points in mushroom and cheese omelet production, and to provide guidelines for the effective quality control programs of the airline catering operation. All data collection was replicated three times. Time and temperature data were collected by using standard instruments throughout the process sequence. Most phases of the food prodct flow were identified as critical control points. Holding phases of after cooking, and before and after reheating need a special attention, since foods were held at room temperature. Several guidelines were suggested for the effective quality control programs for the airline catering operation.

  • Prefabricated Modular Buildings are increasingly becoming popular in the construction industry as a method to achieve financially economical buildings in a very short construction time. This increasing demand for modular construction has expanded into multi-storey applications where the effect of lateral loads such as seismic loads becomes critical. However, there is a lack of detailed scientific research that has explored the behaviour of modular buildings and their connection systems against seismic loads. This paper will therefore present the nonlinear time history analysis of a multi-storey modular building against several ground motion records. The critical elements that need special attention in designing a modular building in similar seismic conditions is discussed with a deeper explanation of the behaviour of the overall system.

  • This paper focuses on development and evaluation of a performance management algorithm for IEEE 802.4 token bus networks to serve large-scale integrated manufacturing systems. Such factory automation networks have to satisfy delay constraints imposed on time-critical messages while maintaining as much network capacity as possible for non-time-critical messages. This paper presents a network performance manager that adjusts queue capacity as well as timers by using a set of fuzzy rules and fuzzy inference mechanism. The efficacy of the performance management has been demonstrated by a series of simulation experiments.

  • This paper investigates several existing techniques to reduce high-availability seamless redundancy (HSR) traffic. HSR is a redundancy protocol for Ethernet networks that provides duplicated frames for separate physical paths with zero recovery time. This feature makes it very useful for real-time and mission-critical applications, such as military applications and substation automation systems. However, the major drawback of HSR is that it generates too much unnecessary redundant traffic in HSR networks. This drawback degrades network performance and may cause congestion and delay. Several HSR traffic reduction techniques have been proposed to reduce the redundant traffic in HSR networks, resulting in the improvement of network performance. In this paper, we provide an overview of these HSR traffic reduction techniques in the literature. The operational principles, advantages, and disadvantages of these techniques are investigated and summarized. We also provide a traffic performance comparison of these HSR traffic reduction techniques.

  • This paper presents a new systematic contingency selection, screening and ranking method for on-line transient security assessment. Transient stability of a particular generator is influenced most by fault near it. Fault at the transmission lines adjacent to the generators are selected as contingency. Two screening methods are developed using the sensitivity of modal synchronizing torque coefficient and computing an approximate critical clearing time(CCT) without time simulation. The first method, which considers only synchronizing power, may mislead in some cases since it does not consider the acceleration power. The approximate CCT method, which consider both the acceleration and deceleration power, worked well. Finally the Single Machine Equivalent(SIME) method is implemented using IPLAN of PSS/E for detailed stability analysis.

  • This paper is a study on the computer simulation of the characteristics of the superconducting fault current limiter. Input variable parameters are apparent power, load resistance value, line resistance value and so on. Initial fault current 2 times larger than the trigger current is required to reduce the switching time of SFCL. The propagation velocity increases abruptly, the transport current is several times larger than the ciritical current. In this paper, the switching time is calculated to be 323$\mu$ sec, and the initial fault current is 19 times larger than the critical current. Because the trigger coils are bifilar winding, they have little impedance in superconducting state. After fault occurred, the limiting coil acts as a superconducting reactor and the trigger coils quench at a critical current. Without the SFCL in the circuit, fault current after the load impedence is shorted might be increased to 1100A. The fault current is, therefore, successfully limited by the superconducting limiting coil to 100A determined by the coil inductance.

  • The data link layer of Foundation Fieldbus provides both token-passing and scheduling services for periodic, time-critical and time-available data. This study developed an analytical model that evaluates the delay performance of urgent data when the data link layer of Foundation Fieldbus provides token-passing service. The validity of analytical model is verified using an experimental model that consists of network interface boards of Foundation Fieldbus. Comparison of analytical and experimental models shows that the analytical model can be utilized in the approximate analysis of the delay characteristics of time-critical data in the Foundation Fieldbus. The analytical model can also be used in the basic design stage of Foundation Fieldbus network system.

  • Sputtered $MoS_2$ thin films provide lubrication and wear improvements for vacuum and space applications. In this study, deposition of $MoS_2$ thin films by R.F. magnetron sputtering was studied with regard to the micro-structural change of $MoS_2$ film and mechanical properties. The coating parameters such as the working pressure, the RF power, the substrate temperature, the etching time were varied to determine how these parameters affected the film morphology and mechanical properties of deposited films. The best wear properties and critical load were observed with the film deposited at $70^{\circ}C$, 1.0$\times$$10^{ -3}$ Torr, 170W and 1 hour deposition time. The critical load increased with the increase of sputter etching time.

  • Researchers have applied theoretical and CFD models for years to analyze the fluidelastic instability (FEI) of tube arrays in steam generators and other heat exchangers. The accuracy of each approach has typically been evaluated using the discrepancy between the experimental critical flow velocity and the predicted value. In the best cases, the predicted critical flow velocity was within an order of magnitude comparable to the measured one. This paper revisits the quasi-steady approach for damping controlled FEI in a normal triangular array with a pitch ratio of P/d = 1.375. The method addresses the fluidelastic frequency at the stability threshold as an input parameter for the approach. The excellent agreement between the estimated stability thresholds and the equivalent experimental results suggests that the fluidelastic frequency must be included in the quasi-steady analysis, which requires minimal computing time and experimental data. In addition, the model allows a simple time delay analysis regarding flow convective and viscous effects.
