Empirical analysis of relationship between Internet communication network quality characteristics and customer satisfaction using regression variable selection procedures (회귀변수선택절차를 이용한 인터넷통신 네트워크 품질특성과 고객만족도와의 관계 실증분석)

  • Customer satisfaction becomes one of the important managerial concerns associated with corporate competency in current competitive environment for Internet communication service companies. Hence, it is demanding to improve a company's customer satisfaction through the total quality management perspective. In practice, engineers as well as the management hope to find major quality characteristics with Internet communication network that is closely related to customer satisfaction, consequently aiming to the raise of their company's customer satisfaction. This paper presents an empirical relationship analysis between network quality characteristics and customer satisfaction on Internet communication. Methodologically, the relationship analysis framework is based on the regression variable selection procedures. In this framework, it is implemented that; 1) iterative model building; and 2) consistent criteria application to statistical tests for selecting significant variables. A case study shows that; 1) the customer satisfaction on the network connection seems to be more closely related to the network quality characteristics compared with the customer satisfaction on the network speed; and 2) the download disconnection rate has relatively evident relationship with the customer satisfaction on the network connection.

Application of Water Quality Management System of Freshwater Lake

  • Lake water quality assessment information is useful to anyone involved in lake management, from lake owners to lake associations. It provides lake water quality criteria, which can improve the ways how to manage out lake resources and how to measure current conditions. It also provides a knowledge base so that the lakes can be protected and restored. Here, the Freshwater Lake Water Quality Management System(FLAQUM) was developed. The results of FLAQUM application by scenario proved that pollutant load at rainfall by the nonpoint sources was much more than normal times at rainfall. From the result of Scenario I (pollutant source increase case), the concentrations of Boryeong freshwater lake were BOD 9.43mg/L, T-N 4.53 mg/L and T-P 0.21 mg/L, respectively, and those values exceed the standard of agricultural water. And in case of Scenario I and II(the present case) excluding Scenario III (pollutant source decrease case), all of T-N and T-P are either mesotrophication or eutrophication, on the other hand when 60% of pollution source is removed, the concentrations of Scenario III were BOD 3.21 mg/L, T-N 0.95 mg/L, T-P 0.11 mg/L, respectively, and which satisfies the standard of agricultural water quality.

Acceleration of Delaunay Refinement Algorithm by Geometric Hashing (기하학적 해싱을 이용한 딜러니 개선 알고리듬의 가속화)

  • Delaunay refinement algorithm is a classical method to generate quality triangular meshes when point cloud and/or constrained edges are given in two- or three-dimensional space. It computes the Delaunay triangulation for given points and edges to obtain an initial solution, and update the triangulation by inserting steiner points one by one to get an improved quality triangulation. This process repeats until it satisfies given quality criteria. The efficiency of the algorithm depends on the criteria and point insertion method. In this paper, we propose a method to accelerate the Delaunay refinement algorithm by applying geometric hashing technique called bucketing when inserting a new steiner point so that it can localize necessary computation. We have tested the proposed method with a few types of data sets, and the experimental result shows strong linear time behavior.

Productivity vs. Quality of Software Development : An Empirical Study of the ISBSG Release 8 (ISBSG 8을 이용한 소프트웨어 개발의 생산성과 품질에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Performance of software development is measured by two major criteria - roductivity and quality. Although the criteria is empirically tested in software engineering research, they often present with a limited way under consideration of a few factors or contexts for developers to focus on the either productivity facets or quality facets. Analyzing data on software development performance collected over a 13-year period from 20 countries, we investigated how major software development factors - development type, development platform, development technique, language type, DBMS, methodology, methodology acquisition, CASE,, summary of work effort, resource level, max team size, affect the performance of software development. The results suggest that productivity and quality of software development are affected by different factors and context: function points, line of code, extreme defects, major defects, or minor defects. This research provides the empirical evidence that the two performance criteria require for software developer to have careful attention to find the optimal balance between the two performance criteria.

  • The Enterprise Security Management system is a centralized control system based on predefined security policies by organizations. In Korea, there is a Common Criteria security certification according to the strict standards for various features. As the needs of information security product are increasing, the ESM system should be evaluated with quality characteristics. In this paper, we propose evaluation items for functionality and performance of Enterprise Security Management system, and the best practices for evaluation.

Economic Second-Order Modeling Using Modified Notz Design (수정된 Notz계획을 이용한 2차모형의 경제적 추정)

  • Purpose: In this paper we propose modified Notz designs which are useful to experimenters who want to adopt the sequential experimentation strategy and to estimate second-order regression model with as few experimental points as possible. Methods: We first present the design matrices and design points in two or three dimensional spaces for such small sized second-order designs as small composite, hybrid, and Notz designs. Modified Notz designs are proposed and compared with some response surface designs in terms of the total number of experimental points, the estimation capability criteria such as D- and A-optimality. Results: When sequential experimentation is necessary, the modified Notz designs are recommendable. Conclusion: The result of this paper will be beneficial to experimenters who need to do experiments more efficiently, especially for those who want to reduce the time of experimentation as much as possible to develop cutting-edge products.

  • This study presents the intellectual capital (IC) indicator selection criteria based on the review of qualitative characteristics of financial accounting information and data quality of information systems. The AHP survey has been performed to verify the weight difference of the criteria to select effective IC indicators among industry. The results shows that there exists the weight differences in relevance and comparability factor by industry. To management IC effectively, different method considering industry environment should be required.

Research on Quality Components for Service Design of Health Screening : Focus on IT Services

  • This research proposes how to enhance low customer satisfaction with health screening services caused by procedural complexity and limits of health screening. The purpose of this study is to identify sub-components of the service quality provided by general health examination centers. This is a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews of providers and consumers of medical services. The data were primarily analyzed by affinity diagram, and the data were sorted and analyzed according to the criteria suggested by Donabedian's four components. Four types of quality factors and the health screening service quality components of 39 subordinate items were assessed. Components related to the use of IT facilities comprise a significant amount of the physical factors, and there are high demands for IT facilities among customers.

  • We have developed three evaluation checklists of educational softwares for users such as, learners, teachers and parents, not for the software develops or designers. This study has especially focused on CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet. The followings were selected as the essential attributes that the educational softwares of high quality should possess : ease of use, technical support and interest of learning for learners, educational value and smartness for teachers, packaging integrity, investment value and childproof for parents. The evaluation checklists were developed on the basis of evaluation criteria which were concretion of the essential attributes. The validity of the evaluation checklists was supported by a theoretical study for the development of ckecklists and the actual development process. The interrater reliability and the retest reliability were confirmed by statistical methods. Thus, the developed checklists can be a useful tool to evaluate educational softwares. This study will contribute to improvement of the software quality and help users in selecting educational softwares.

Consensus on definition and quality standard of clinical practice guideline using RAND method (RAND 방법으로 합의한 임상진료지침의 정의와 질 평가 기준)

  • Background : Clinical practice guidelines are an increasingly familiar part of clinical practice. Moreover, rigorously developed evidence based guidelines has been widely used. However, in Korea, some of published documents as clinical practice guidelines have shown considerable disparity in structure, contents and quality. This is mainly because there is no consensus on the definition and quality standard of clinical practice guidelines. The purpose of this study was to draw consensus on the definition and the quality standard about clinical practice guidelines. Method : We developed a questionnaire about the definition of clinical practice guidelines with inclusion criteria(23 items) and the quality standard(30 items). We selected 9 experts who had prior experience in developing and implementing guidelines. Rating methods for appropriateness of items were adopted from the RAND method. Consensus was drawn in three rounds. Results : Of the 47 items agreed, 40 items were determined to be appropriate. Clinical practice guidelines were defined as "scientifically and systematically developed statements to assist practitioners and patients on making decisions about appropriate health care for specific clinical circumstances." Narrative reviews, systematic reviews or health technology assessment without recommendations, translation of foreign guidelines, guidelines for patients only and training manuals were not considered as clinical practice guidelines. For the quality standard of clinical practice guidelines, 27 items were deemed necessary. Conclusions : The consensus on the definition with inclusion criteria and the quality standard of clinical practice guidelines carries an important meaning as the first attempt to draw a general agreement in our society. The unique achievement of the consensus reflects the current status of clinical practice guidelines that there has been a high tendency to adapt foreign guidelines. We hope efforts of this kind will continue to bring improvement in clinical practice guidelines.
