  • This paper evaluates the reliability of creep rupture life under service conditions of Alloy 617, which is considered as one of the candidate materials for use in a very high temperature reactor (VHTR) system. A Z-parameter, which represents the deviation of creep rupture data from the master curve, was used for the reliability analysis of the creep rupture data of Alloy 617. A Service-condition Creep Rupture Interference (SCRI) model, which can consider both the scattering of the creep rupture data and the fluctuations of temperature and stress under any service conditions, was also used for evaluating the reliability of creep rupture life. The statistical analysis showed that the scattering of creep rupture data based on Z-parameter was supported by normal distribution. The values of reliability decreased rapidly with increasing amplitudes of temperature and stress fluctuations. The results established that the reliability decreased with an increasing service time.

  • The creep rupture data for type 316LN stainless steels were collected through literature survey or experimental data produced in KAERI. Using these data, polynomial equations for predicting creep life were obtained by Larson-Miller (L-M), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (O-S-D) and Manson-Haferd (M-H) etc. time-temperature parametric (TTP) methods. Standard error of estimate (SEE) values for the each parameter was obtained with different temperatures through the statistical process of the creep data. The results of L-M, O-S-D and M-H methods showed good creep-life prediction, but M-H method showed better agreement than L-M and O-S-D methods. Especially, it was found that SEE values of M-H method at $700^{\circ}C$ were lower than that of L-M and O-S-D methods.

  • Grade 91 steel is used for the major structural components of Generation-IV reactor systems such as a very high temperature reactor (VHTR) and sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR). Since these structures are designed for up to 60 years at elevated temperatures, the prediction of long-term creep life is very important to determine an allowable design stress of elevated temperature structural component. In this study, a large body of creep rupture data was collected through world-wide literature surveys, and using these data, the long-term creep life was predicted in terms of three methods: Larson-Miller (L-M), Manson-Haferd (M-H) and Wilshire methods. The results for each method was compared using the standard deviation of error. The L-M method was overestimated in the longer time of a low stress. The Wilshire method was superior agreement in the long-term life prediction to the L-M and M-H methods.

  • In this report for the assessment of creep properties of high-temperature tube materials in power plants, the long-time($10^4$~105h) creep life prediction by ISM for 2.25Cr1Mo steel was studied. It was clarified experimentally and quantitatively that the newly developed long-time creep life prediction equation was very coincident with the actual experimental data with high confidence, and the model was $t_r=\alpha\varepsilon_0^{\beta}\sigma^{-1}$.

  • Reduced Activation Ferritic/Martensitic Steels (RAFs) are leading candidntes for structural materials of a D-T fusion reactor. One of the RAFs, JLF-l (9Cr-2W-V, Ta) has been developed and has shown to have good resistance against high-fluency neutrino irradiation and good phase stability. Recently, in order to clarify the strengthening mechanisms at high temperatures, a new scheme to improve high temperature mechanical properties is desired. Therefore, the test technique development of high temperature creep behaviors for this material is very important. In this paper, the creep properties and creep life prediction, using the Larson-Miler parameter method for JLF-l to be used for fusion reactor materials or other high temperature components, are presented at the elevated temperatures of 50$0^{\circ}C$, 55$0^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ and 704$^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed, experimentally and quantitatively, that a creep life predictive equation, at such various high temperatures, is well derived mr the LMP method.

  • P91 steel has been a highly researched material because of its applicability for high-temperature applications. Considerable efforts have been made to produce experimental creep data and develop models for creep life prediction. As creep tests are expensive and difficult to conduct, it is vital to develop authenticated empirical methods from experimental results that can be utilized for better understanding of creep behavior and can be incorporated into computational models for reliable prediction of creep life. In this research, a series of creep rupture tests are performed on the P91 specimens within a stress range of 155 MPa to 200 MPa and temperature range of 640 ℃ (913 K) to 675 ℃ (948 K). The microstructure, hardness, and fracture surfaces of the specimens are investigated. To analyze the results of the creep rupture tests at a macro level, a parameter called creep work density is derived. Then, the relationships between various creep parameters such as strain, strain rate, time to rupture, creep damage tolerance factor, and creep work density are investigated, and various empirical equations are obtained.

  • Creep life prediction has been commonly used by a time-temperature parameter (TTP) which is correlated to an applied stress and temperature, such as Larson-Miller (LM), Orr-Sherby-Dorn (OSD), Manson-Haferd (MH) and Manson-Succop (MS) parameters. A stress-temperature linear model (STLM) based on Arrhenius, Dorn and Monkman-Grant equations was newly proposed through a mathematical procedure. For this model, the logarithm time to rupture was linearly dependent on both an applied stress and temperature. The model parameters were properly determined by using a technique of maximum likelihood estimation of a statistical method, and this model was applied to the creep data of Alloy 617. From the results, it is found that the STLM results showed better agreement than the Eno’s model and the LM parameter ones. Especially, the STLM revealed a good estimation in predicting the long-term creep life of Alloy 617.

  • Kachanov-Rabotnov(K-R) creep damage theory was reviewed, and applied to design a creep curve for type 316LN stainless steel. Seven coefficients used in the theory, i.e., A, B, k, m, λ, r, and q were determined, and their physical meanings were analyzed clearly. In order to quantify a damage parameter ($\omega$), cavity amount was measured in the crept specimen taken from interrupted creep test with time variation, and then the amount was reflected into K-R damage equations. Coefficient λ, which is regarded as a creep tolerance feature of a material, increased with creep strain. Mater curve with λ=2.8 was well coincided with an experimental one to the full lifetime. The relationship between damage parameter and life fraction was matched with the theory at exponent ${\gamma}$=24 value. It is concluded that K-R damage equation was reliable as the modelling equation for type 316LN stainless steel. Coefficient data obtained from type 316LN stainless steel can be utilized for life prediction of operating material.
