Creep behaviors of Cr3C2 composites containing 90 wt% Cr3C2 and 10 wt% Ni were studied at high temperature. Compression tests at 100$0^{\circ}C$ and bending tests at 100$0^{\circ}C$ and 105$0^{\circ}C$ were done in argon environment. In all test conditions primary and steady-state creep behaviors were observed. Stress exponent and activatiion energy were determined from the experimental data. By microstructural analysis of Cr3C2 composites after creep test, the separate agglomerations of Ni phase were observed. Numerical analysis was also studied to analyze bending creep behaviors of Cr3C2 by assumming different tensile and compressive creep behavior in a bending sample. From the analysis, it was found that the stress state at the compressive region as applied stress increased. The observed creep rates were compared with the predicted creep rates by estimating power-law creep parameters from bending test data.
The effects of duplex-treatment of plasma carburization and CrN coating onto Ti-6Al-4V alloy on its creep properties were investigated by means of a constant stress creep tester. Applying duplex-treatment, specimens having an inner carburized layer of about $150{\mu}m$ in depth and outer CrN layer of about $7.5{\mu}m$ in thickness were prepared. The hardness of duplex-treatment surface was about 1,960 VHN. It also appeared that the duplex-treatment improved the roughness of the surface significantly; $Ra=0.045{\mu}m$ for treated alloy while $Ra=0.321{\mu}m$ for untreated alloy. The steady-state creep behaviors were investigated in a temperature range of $510{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ ($0.42{\sim}0.44T_m$) under an applied stress range of 200~275 MPa. The stress exponent, n, was derived assuming the power law creep behavior. The surface treatment showed a decrease in a value from 9.32 (untreated) to 8.79 (treated). Also the activation energy obtained from an Arrhenius plot increased from 238 to 257 kJ/mol.
The steady-static creep behaviors of Ti-6Al-4V alloy, using the constant stress creep tester, were investigated over the temperature range of $510{\sim}550^{\circ}C$(0.42~0.44Tm) and the stress range of 200~275 MPa($20.41{\sim}28.06kg/mm^2$). The stress exponents(n) for the static creep deformation of this alloy were 9.85, 9.35, 9.24 and 8.85 at the temperature of 510, 525, 535 and $550^{\circ}C$, respectively. The stress exponent(n) decreased with increasing the temperature and became close to about 5. The apparent activation energies(Q) for the static creep deformation were 254.4, 241.8, 234.4 and 221.9 kJ/mole for the stress of 200, 225, 250 and 275MPa, respectively. The activation energy(Q) decreased with increasing the stress. From the above results, it can be concluded that the static creep deformation for Ti-6Al-4V alloy was controlled by the dislocation climb over the ranges of the experimental conditions. Larson-Miller Parameter(P) for the crept specimens of Ti-6Al-4V alloy under the static creep conditions was obtained as $P=(T+460)({\log}\;t_r+21)$. The failure plane observed by SEM showed up dimple phenomenon at all range.
In this paper, creep tests of Mg-Zn-Mn and Mg-Zn-Mn-Ca alloys, which were casted by mold with Mg-3%Zn-1%Mn and Mg-3%Zn-1%Mn-0.2%Ca, were done under the temperature range of 473-573K and the stress range of 23.42-78.00Mpa. The activation energies and the stress exponents were measured to investigate the creep plastic deformation of those alloys, and the rupture lifes of Mg-Zn-Mn alloy were also measured to investigate the fracture behavior. From the results, the activation energy of Mg-Zn-Mn and Mg-Zn-Mn-Ca alloys under the temperature range of 473-493K were measured as 149.87, 145.98KJ/mol, respectively, and the stress exponent were measured as 5.13, 6.06 respectively. Also the activation energies Mg-Zn-Mn and Mg-Zn-Mn-Ca alloys under the temperature range of 553-573K were obtained as 134.41, 129.22KJ/mol, respectively, and tress exponent were obtained as 3.48, 4.63, respectively. Finally stress dependence of rupture life and the activation energy of rupture life of Mg-Zn-Mn under the temperature range of 473-493K was measured as 8.05, 170.0(KJ/mol), respectively, which were a little higher than the results of steady state creep.
The static creep behaviors of dispersion strengthened copper GlidCop were investigated over the temperature range of $650{\sim}690^{\circ}C$ (0.7Tm) and the stress range of 40~55 MPa (4.077~5.61 $kg/mm^2$). The stress exponents for the static creep deformation of this alloy was 8.42, 9.01, 9.25, 9.66 at the temperature of 690, 677, 663, and $650^{\circ}C$, respectively. The stress exponent, (n) increased with decreasing the temperature and became dose to 10. The apparent activation energy for the static creep deformation, (Q) was 374.79, 368.06, 361.83, and 357.61 kg/mole for the stress of 40, 45, 50, and 55 MPa, respectively. The activation energy (Q) decreased with increasing the stress and was higher than that of self diffusion of Cu in the dispersion strengthened copper. In results, it can be concluded that the static creep deformation for dispersion strengthened copper was controlled by the dislocation climb over the ranges of the experimental conditions. Larson-Miller parameter (P) for the crept specimens for dispersion strengthened copper under the static creep conditions was obtained as P=(T+460)(logtr+23). The failure plane observed for SEM slightly showed up transgranular at that experimental range, however, universally it was dominated by characteristic of the intergranular fracture.
The short-term high temperature creep rupture behavior of Ni-based Alloy718 steels jointed by friction welding wasinvestigated at the elevated temperatures of 550 to $700^{\circ}C$ under constant stress conditions. The creep rupture characteristics such as creep stress, rupture time, steady state creep rate, and initial strain were evaluated. Creep stress has a quantitative correlation between creep rupture time and steady state creep rate. The stress exponents (n, m) of the experimental data at 550, 600, 650 and $700^{\circ}C$ were derived as 26.1, -22.4, 22.5, -18.5, 17.4, -14.3 and 6.9, -8.1, respectively. The stress exponents decreased with increasing creep temperature. The creep life prediction was derived by the Larson-Miller parameter (LMP) method and the result equation obtained is as follows: T(logtr+20)=-0.00148${\sigma}^2$-3.089${\sigma}$+23232. Finally, the results were compared with those of the base metal for Alloy718.
The static creep behaviour of AlSl 420F stainless steel was investigated over the temperature range of $540{\sim}585^{\circ}C$ and the stress range of $13{\sim}19kg/mm^2$ (127.4~186.2MPa). Constant stress creep tests were carried out in the experiment. Measured stress exponent, n, for the creep deformation of the alloy under the given conditions was found to vary at the range of 9.59, 9.15, 8.78, and 8.53 for the temperature of 540, 555, 570, and $585^{\circ}C$ respectively. The activation energy, Qc, for the creep deformation was 106.42, 102.58,97.81, and 94.58 kcal/mole for the stress of 13, 15, 17, and $19kg/mm^2$, respectively. Lason-Miller parameter, P, for the crept specimens for AlSl 420F stainless steel was measured as $P=T(log\;t_T+21)$. The empirical static creep rate obtained by the regression analysis was as follows. $${\varepsilon}={\exp}[(3.79{\times}10^{-2}{\sigma}+2.722)T-3.0747{\sigma}+28.109]{\times}{\sigma}^{(-2.367{\times}10^{-2}T+22.33)}{\exp}\left[-\frac{(-2.015{\sigma}+132.580){\times}10^3}{RT}\right]$$ The failure plane were observed, intergranular fracture was dominated by r (round) type crack over the experimental range.
This paper attempts to quantify the effect of mismatch in creep properties on steady-state stress distributions for a welded branch vessel. A particular geometry for the branch vessel is chosen. The vessel is modeled by only two materials, the base and weld metal. Idealized power law creep laws with the same creep exponents are assumed for base and weld metals. A mismatch factor is introduced, as a function of the creep constant and exponent. Steady-state stress distributions within the weld metal, resulting from threedimensional, elastic-creep finite element (FE) analyses, are then characterized by the mismatch factor. We can find that average stresses in the weld can be characterized by the mis-match factor. And there is an analogy between elastic-creep and elastic-perfectly plastic.
In this study, a small punch creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(10${\times}$10${\times}$0.5mm) is described to develop the new creep test method for high temperature structural materials. The SP-Creep test is applied to 2.25Cr-lMo(STBA24) steel which is widely used as boiler tube material. The test temperatures applied for the creep deformation of miniaturized specimens are between 550∼600$^{\circ}C$. The SP-Creep curves depend definitely on applied load and creep temperature, and show the three stages of creep behavior like in conventional uniaxial tensile creep curves. The load exponent of miniaturized specimen decreases with increasing test temperature, and its behavior is similar to stress exponent behavior of uniaxial creep test. The creep activation energy obtained from the relationship between SP-Creep rate and test temperature decreases as the applied load increases. A predicting equation or SP-Creep rate for 2.25Cr-lMo steel is suggested. and a good agreement between experimental and calculated data has been found.
In this paper, creep tests of Mg-Zn-Mn and Mg-Zn-Mn-Ca alloy casted by mold under the temperature range of 473.00-573.00K, and the stress range of 23.42-87.00Mpa were done with the equipment of automatic controlled temperature and computer for data acquisition. The activation energies were obtained by relationship between creep rate and temperature, and the stress exponents were obtained by relationship between creep rate and stress. From the experiment results, the activation energies of Mg-Zn-Mn and Mg-Zn-Mn-Ca alloy were 149.87kJ/mol, 147.97kJ/mol, respectively, and the stress exponents of those alloy were 5.13, 5.59, respectively, under the temperature of 473.00-493.00K and the stress range of 62.43-78.00Mpa. And the activation energies of those alloy were 134.41kJ/mol, 129.22kJ/mol, respectively, and the stress exponent of those alloy were 3.48, 3.77, respectively, under the temperature of 553-573Mpa and the stress range of 23.42-39.00Mpa. Also the lifes of Mg-Zn-Mn-Ca alloy were higher than those of Mg-Zn-Mn alloy, and the results of SEM showed fracture surfaces under low temperature had smaller dimples than those under high temperature.
