The high temperature fatigue crack growth behavior of SUS 304 stainless steel at $550^{\circ}C$ and $650^{\circ}C$ was investigated under various kinds of stress ratio and frequency in sinusoidal waveform on the basis of the non-linear fracture mechanics. The result arranging crack growth rate by modified J-integral J' showed influence of stress ratio and frequency. All the data obtained under the test at $550^{\circ}C$ were plotted within data band of da/dN-${\triangle}J_f$ relationship for cycle-dependent crack growth. On the basis of static creep and cycle-dependent data band; both time- and cycle-dependent crack growth behavior was observed under loading conditions at $650^{\circ}C$, but cycle-dependent crack growth behavior predominantly appeared and time-dependent crack growth behaviour was little observed under loading conditions at $550^{\circ}C$. Fractographic examinations for fracture surface indicated that the fracture mode was generally transgranular. The stripes were found on fracture surface and each stripe was accompanied by a crack tip blunting and an abrupt increase in the load-point displacement. The $J'_{an}$ had a validity in case of $650^{\circ}C, but scarcely had it in case of $550^{\circ}C$.

Influences of hold time and stress ratio on cyclic creep properties of Grade 91 steel were systemically investigated using a wide range of cyclic creep tests, which were performed with hold times (HTs) of 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes and stress ratios (R) of 0.5, 0.8, 0.85, 0.90, and 0.95 under tension loading cycles at $600^{\circ}C$. Under the influence of HT, the rupture time increased to HT = 5 minutes at R = 0.90 and R = 0.95, but there was no influence at R = 0.50, 0.80, and 0.85. The creep rate was constant regardless of an increase in the HT, except for the case of HT = 5 minutes at R = 0.90 and R = 0.95. Under the influence of stress ratio, the rupture time increased with an increase in the stress ratio, but the creep rate decreased. The cyclic creep led to a reduction in the rupture time and an acceleration in the creep rate compared with the case of monotonic creep. Cyclic creep was found to depend dominantly on the stress ratio rather than on the HT. Fracture surfaces displayed transgranular fractures resulting from microvoid coalescence, and the amount of microvoids increased with an increase in the stress ratio. Enhanced coarsening of the precipitates in the cyclic creep test specimens was found under all conditions.

In power generation systems a variety of structural components typically operate at high temperature and pressure. Therefore a life assessment methodology accounting for gradual creep fracture is increasingly needed for these components. The most critical defects in such structure are generally found in the form of semi-elliptical surface cracks in the welded tubular joints. Therefore the analysis of a semi-elliptical surface crack in a plate or a shell is an important problem in engineering fracture mechanics. On this background, via shell/line-spring finite element analyses of such surface cracks in the welded T and L joints under various loadings, we investigate J-integral along the crack front We first develop T and L joints auto mesh generation program providing ABAQUS input file composed of shell/line-spring finite elements. We then further develop a T and L joints life assessment program based on the experimental creep crack growth law and auto mesh generation program in a graphical user interface format Finally the remaining life of T and L joints for various analytical parameters are assessed using the developed life assessment program.
In this paper, fracture analysis of a continuously inhomogeneous arch structure with two longitudinal cracks is developed in terms of the time-dependent strain energy release rate. The arch under consideration exhibits non-linear creep behavior. The cross-section of the arch is a rectangle. The material is continuously inhomogeneous along the thickness of the cross-section. The arch is loaded by two bending moments applied at its end sections. The mechanical behavior of the material is described by using a non-linear stress-strain-time relationship. The two longitudinal cracks are located symmetrically with respect to the mid-span of the arch. Due to the symmetry, only half of the arch is considered. Time-dependent solutions to strain energy release rate are obtained by analyzing the balance of the energy. For verification, time-dependent solutions to the strain energy release rate are derived also by considering the time-dependent complementary strain energy. The evolution of the strain energy release rate with the time is analyzed. The effects of material inhomogeneity, locations of the two cracks along the thickness of the arch and the magnitude of the external loading on the time-dependent strain energy release rate are evaluated.

Titanium alloy has widely been used as material for glasses frame parts because it has high specific strength. It is also light and harmless to human body. However, we have little design data about the mechanical properties such as the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, creep tests under four constant stress conditions have been conducted with four different temperature conditions. A series of creep tests had been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of titanium products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increased. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decrease as the stresses became bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameter on this alloy was estimated as about 2.5. Finally, the fractographs at the creep rupture showed the ductile fracture due to the intergranullar rupture and some dimples.
Modern technological progress demands the use of materials at high temperature and high pressure. One of the most critical factors in considering such applications-perhaps the most critical one-is creep behavior. In this study the activation energy for the creep rupture (Qf) and the stress dependence of rupture time (n') have been determined during creep of Al 7075 alloy eve, the temporature range of $200^{\circ}C to 500^{\circ}C$ and stress range of 0.64 kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ to 9.55 kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$, respectively, in order to investigate the creep-rupture property. Constant load creep tests were carried out in the enperiment At around the temperature $210^{\circ}C~390^{\circ}C$ and the stress level 1.53~9.55(kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$), the stress dependence of rupture time(n') had the value of 6.6~6.78 but at 50$0^{\circ}C$, the value of 1.3. Besides at around the temperature of $200^{\circ}C~500^{\circ}C$ and under the stress level of 0.89~8.51 (kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$), the activation energy for the creepprupture (Qf) was nearly equal to that of the volume self diffusion of pure aluminum (34Kca1/mo1e)

In this Paper, friction welding optimization for 1Cr0.5Mo-STS304($\Phi$14mm), AE applications for the weld quality evaluation and the applications of various life prediction methods such as LMP(Larson-Miller Parameter) and ISM(initial strain method) were investigated : the creep behaviors of those steels and the friction welded joints under static load were examined by ISM combined with LMP at 400, 500, 550 and $600^{\circ}C$, and the relationship between these two kinds of phenomena was studied. The real-time predicting equations of elevated-temperature creep life(fracture time) under any creep stress at any elevated- temperature could be developed by LMP and LMP-ISM, It was confirmed that the life prediction equations by LMP and LMP-ISM are effective only up to 10$^2$hrs and can not be used for long times of 10$^3$-10$^{6}$ hrs, but by ISM it can be used for long times creep prediction of more than 10$^4$hrs with most reliability.
For fitness-for-service evaluation of high temperature plant components with defects, crack growth life must be assessed properly as indicated in the recent draft of API 579 code. Type 308 stainless steel has been widely used as a field weld material in the petrochemical industry. In this study, creep crack data of type 308 stainless steel are collected and re-analyzed using $C_t$ as a characterizing fracture parameter. A unique da/dt versus $C_t$ relationship was obtained despite of difference of creep deformation constant of the reviewed materials and specimen geometry of the tested specimens. The obtained results can be employed for crack growth life assessment and fitness-for-service evaluation for the cracks in high temperature components. It is also argued that since the effect of creep properties and other material variability on the creep crack growth behavior would be minor the obtained model may be applied for most of the 308 stainless steels.
The fatigue crack propagation tests were performed in triangular and holding-time stress waveforms at $650^{\circ}C$. The behavior of fatigue crack propagation was investigated according to waveform. The analysis of high temperature fatigue crack propagation by the stress intensity factor range ${\Delta}K$, elastic fracture mechanics parameter, was not available. The behaviors of high temperature fatigue crack propagation by the J-integral(${\Delta}J_f$, J' and ${\Delta}J_c$), elasto-plastic fracture mechanics parameter, were investigated in a number of stress waveforms. The fast-fast waveform exhibited cycle-dependent(fatigue type), the slow-fast and the hold time with 500sec waveforms appear to be time-dependent(creep type) and the fast-slow and the hold time with 5, 25sec waveforms exhibited conbined behavior of both types(fatigue-creep conbined type).

The present work reviews the methods to evaluate elastic-plastic material characteristics by indentation tests. Especially the representative stress and strain values used in some papers are critically analyzed. The values should not only represent the load-depth curve, but also represent the whole of deformed material around the impression. We briefly introduce other indentation techniques to evaluate residual stresses, creep properties, and fracture toughness. We also review some technical problems that are related to the accuracy issues in indentation tests.
